Bring some friends and items you no longer need to this freecycling event! Everyone is welcome to bring any items that no longer serve them to swap them for items they will use. So, while you’re doing some spring cleaning these next few weeks, be sure to set aside all of the stuff that is simply taking up space and bring it to be rehomed! We encourage gently used clothing, small housewares (🛑no appliances or furniture🛑), and school supplies - and don’t forget to bring your reusable bags for any new stuff that catches your eye, as single-use bags will not be provided. We are Plastic-Free MKE! Over these past 5 years, Plastic-Free MKE has grown tremendously! With all of our new members in mind, we felt it was time to reintroduce ourselves. Plastic-Free MKE is a grassroots movement that is focused on reducing the harms that unnecessary plastics have on environmental health, public health, and social justice. We center those most harmed by plastics, build a community around plastic alternatives, advocate for producer and polluter accountability, and use collaborative problem solving to eliminate plastics in the Milwaukee area. We envision a healthier Milwaukee for everyone, free from the harms of unnecessary plastics! Plastic-Free MKE's many great coalition partners are all working towards our mission by advocating for policy change, encouraging individual action, helping businesses and neighborhoods make plastic-free switches, and guiding Milwaukee youth to become environmental advocates. There are many challenges when it comes to fighting plastic pollution, but we have still made immense progress. We now have 30 Lake Friendly Businesses, over 40 coalition partners, and 50 volunteers who run initiates and help us connect with our larger community. We have prevented over 8,000 single-use plastic water bottles from being discarded through our Refill program, and have even helped pass the City of Milwaukee Straw Law and the Milwaukee County Styrofoam Ban. Join the Green Schools Consortium of Milwaukee at the 7th Annual Green & Healthy Schools Conference, this year at the Milwaukee County Zoo. They have teamed up, once again, with Plastic-Free MKE to make this a Lake Friendly Conference! Gather together with teachers, administrators, government officials, educational nonprofits, and community members to learn from each other how to build greener and healthier schools for generations to come in the Milwaukee area. This year's conference will host ~600 attendees, 80+ exhibitors, 18 breakout sessions and conference activities where individuals will connect and share collective support for Green & Healthy Schools in the Milwaukee area. 🚨TOMORROW! Paddle by the Beach at Lakeshore State Park from 4-7pm!🚣🏽♀️ Milwaukee Kayak Company will be renting kayaks for families/kids under 12 years of age + their adult chaperone. They will also bring a couple of paddle boards. Life jackets and paddles provided.
