Last day of @bra_sewing_bee I finished a set. Thanks to @bravobellabras I learned how to make a bra with cut and sew foam covered in bamboo jersey knit. Not only did it come out super cute; it fits beautifully. This may be my go-to bra pattern. I even made the matching panties from her undies by the decade. I'm sad that it's over,but I'm so glad I was able to participate. I wish they had the more interactive part that they had last year with the avatars. I really enjoyed that. tl:dr I found a solution to a bra pattern conundrum. Yay, I'm making comfy bra that's pretty. Long story: In August, I bought the stunning black lace with rainbow flower embroidery kit and Olivia bra pattern from @bwear.se I tried to get the two-piece bra pattern to fit nicely, without success. I decided to try compromise with a three-piece, but wasn't happy with the result, although as a different bra, the Josey V2 by La Bella Coopia, was super comfortable. Fast forward to a few months ago, when I decided to go through my store-bought bras and either salvage materials or ditched them. I found this beautiful lace bra from Adore Me - the band was just not supportive enough, but the cup fit nicely. Well, on closer inspection it was a one-piece! 😮 with a single dart. What?! In a 34 F?! Yep! Woo, Hoo! I made a pattern, tried it in my frame, put the lace overlay, and bada Bing, we have a winner! It isn't the most uplifting bra ever, but it is a nice silhouette and it is super comfortable. Quilt backing fabric arrived from @missouriquiltco A beautiful map fabric for the back of last year's Murder Mystery Quilt, a cream and tan print that looks like tree rings for this year's Quilt, both 108" wide. Lastly, the beautiful Robert Kaufman water fabric that reminds me of Van Gough. As you can see it got the paw of approval. Instead of backing a Quilt with this, I intend to make a 1950's style dress with a coordinating coat (Think Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) that is lined with the fabric. Maybe a matching clutch and shoe bows. I still need to find the fabric for the coat. Yay for the International Beginners Bra Sewing Bee @bra_sewing_bee this weekend. It was a great refresher gearing up for the big conference next weekend. I bought the stunning black lace with rainbow flower embroidery kit and Olivia bra pattern from @bwear.se for her sew along. I really wanted the bra to work it is such a lovely look, but I just couldn't get the 2 peice bra to fit nicely. I decided to try a 3 peice bra, the Josey V2 by La Bella Coopia, for the cup under the lace and see if the 2 peice lace overlay would lay nicely. How excited was I when it worked?! The B. From concept to all the elements needed to finish the $5 bra challenge. I started with a falling apart old bra and rummaged for bits of elastic, power net, and sheer cup lining from bra kits we had used already. I made the cups from scraps leftover from quilts mom amd I have made in the past. We do have a large stash, but I honestly didn't purchase anything specifically for this bra and the only peices of anything big enough to make a whole bra were the twill tape and the 3/8"picot elastic that I didn't use in a bra kit because I wanted white instead. Since I was little,.it has been a tradition to make a new outfit for the 1st day of school. Mom carried on that tradition when when we became teachers. This year as my 1st year as a music teacher, I thought ot was fitting to have a music themed dress. I found a little over 2 yards of super fun material in our stash and Mom and I tag team constructed this lovely dress. We used changed the sleeves to the vogue pattern sleeves. Which, by the way, are the perfect puff sleeve. Also, the small pile of fabric next to the patterns, was all that was left of the fabric post construction. Talk about waste not want not. About 20 years ago, my mom and I took a trip to Scotland. She found this amazing green and cream plaid and some metal thistle buttons. She made a jumper (see second slide) and apparently hated the way it looked on her so she packed it away. About 5 years ago I ran across it and decided to remake it into a skirt and a vest. I put the idea aside and worked on it last year. I shortened the skirt, added a waistband, nipped the sides in for a more fitted look, and lengthend the shoulders to frame my chest, but for various reasons, didn't finish. I finished it today. I'm in love with it. I think the vest will look amazing with slacks, jeans or the skirt. The buttons are adorable.
