Let's talk Salon Etiquette!💅 If you have an appointment with me, or any nail technician, this is one of the most important things to avoid. Make every effort not to cancel on the day of your appointment!❗ Of course, there are always legitimate exceptions, such emergencies or last-minute job commitments. However, the small business will lose out on revenue if you don't cancel at least 24 hours in advance because it's difficult to fill a day-of appointment. ⏰ A no-show is the only situation worse than a tardy cancellation since the nail tech has no way to reschedule you. 😅 Put the date and time of your appointment in writing, or set a reminder on your phone, even if you think you'll remember it perfectly. 📲 It's likely that you wouldn't appreciate it if your meeting or appointment was postponed the day before. 🤦‍♀️ In order to prevent a tech from losing out on a sale, attempt to reschedule as soon as possible and be as kind and regretful as you can when cancelling if there is truly an emergency or something you are unable to avoid. 🥰 #salonetiquette #salon #nailsalon #etiquette #smallbusiness #supportsmall #orangensw #nailtech #aussienailtech

What makes a salon a “luxury” salon? This can make all the difference in what you charge as a provider or what you pay as a customer at a luxury salon. When I think of luxury, I think of high end and top notch. I personally want a quiet and clean environment with small details making me feel special. Think about the nicest spa you have ever been to. What did they offer that made you feel so special? Was it the wine, coffee or tea? Mints, candy or snacks, the fine attention to detail, the high end soaps and lotions, or was it the quiet atmosphere or the free sample you left with? A luxury salon is somewhere you can go and relax without the chaos of screaming children, blasting music or obnoxious chatter. It’s somewhere that uses quality products and offers superb customer service. Here are a list of things I look for when searching for that luxury salon experience. A child free salon or studio (often times the client is trying to get away from their own for a moment of silence), calm music, pleasant scents, comfortable seating, quality service, cleanliness and organization, high end products with less chemicals and more natural ingredients, vegan and cruelty free products, high end soaps and lotions, drinks and snacks, an online booking system, hand or foot massages with every service (you’ll have to schedule with @nailed.by.mack for that one 😉), holiday gifts or cards thanking you for your support over the last year, continued education, single use files and buffers, proper sanitation and punctuality. Does the service provider remember you and details about you or your nails? Do they show up for and follow through with your appointments? These are all things to consider when raising your prices as a provider or when you pay more as a customer. The salon down the street might charge less but take a look around next time you’re there and you’ll quickly realize why. What should you bring to your hair appointment ✂️ Making the best of your hair appointment is crucial for a great experience! First, bring multiple inspiration photos of hair colors and haircuts on someone with a similar hair type/hair color like yours! If you have fine hair and want a short layered haircut, they will look different on you than someone with thick, coarse hair. Also, layers are more visible on lighter hair colors, so that may impact you if you have dark hair. Second, if you are having a color service done that could take over an hour and a half - bring snacks! There's nothing worse than feeling hungry during your hair appt. Third, bring a book, your phone, or a tablet. Some of our clients only get "me time" at their hair appointments, so take advantage of that and do something you want to do. For example, if I am running beyond 15 minutes late to start your service, I will offer a discount of $10. But please be advised! I have worked in the industry over thirty years and have seen it all. I have some pet peeves that really rub me the wrong way. I’m the stylist that doesn’t believe in servicing other stylist whom I work with clients without their consent. Yes clients spend their money with who they choose. However it’s common courtesy not to service our teammates clients without them knowing simply because that’s their client and money. I know some won’t agree but that’s on them. My heart set up different. I respect and treat people how I want to be treated. Secondly, I don’t post other people’s work without their permission and when I do I make sure clients know to contact them directly. If a client calls for a specific stylist whose not in I let the client know I will reach out to their stylist and have them contact them directly. I don’t take it upon myself to service the clients whether I need the money or not. I only do that when the stylist has agreed. I respect the fact that money should be in my teammates pocket. I have a big problem with stylist marketing other stylist work to draw clients then they book the client for themselves as if it was their work that drew them in. That’s not cool at all. The last one I will say grind my gears is not asking clients if they want a specific stylist when they call in or walk in. Clients may not always ask for a specific stylist but it is important for us to ask when working in a team environment rather than assuming they want any available stylist. The salon industry has become very dog eat dog and I’m not with it. Let’s normalize making sure everybody eats and not stepping on each other’s toes. I said what I said because it needs to be said. I know there are other stylist who can relate to this. Real talk. Food for thought. 👁️Patch Testing I always patch test new clients for eyelash tint, eyebrow tint and lash lifts. I also re test clients who haven't visited for 6 months. I will refuse treatment if a patch test hasn't been carried out by myself in my salon. A reaction is rare but it does happen and it's to find out if you have an allergy to ppd (the chemical found in tint products) PPD is safe to use but some people can be allergic this is why patch testing is mandatory. 👉🏻Swipe to see a positive reaction that appeared on a client of mine who I had tested. *I have permission for photo use. During the pandemic, the rise in growing hair color out was astounding. Unfortunately, with that, came a better than you attitude with comments like “you should do it, you’d feel so much better or “you should embrace who you are”. All of sudden (in some) you know know what’s better for someone else? Now before you get on your soap box and start throwing self righteous arguments, this is an attempt to check what your intention is behind your comment. Is it a validation for your heroic process or Is it to share how your positive results? If it’s truly to share the love, then consider making it about you and what transpired in you because of it. This may be an unpopular opinion but let’s wrastle the elephant in the room. The majority and I mean the majority of people understand and respect how cancelling can affect a service based business. However there is on occasion an unexpected situation or a “better offer” comes up in your day and you need to cancel your salon service. Now I am not talking about emergencies or illnesses, I’m talking about the casual “meh” moments. These really do affect the livelihood of a service provider and I can assure you there is no bitch in the background saying “oh yeah, I’ll show you”. It’s stressful to charge for a missed service which is why we pay for software with reminders, and usually follow up if you haven’t confirmed. Just imagine if your boss said, “please sit there, don’t do any thing, don’t catch up on other work & don’t talk to anyone…just sit there, and oh yeah you’re not getting paid”? You need your job, you don’t want to lose it but why are you being made to do this? You could do other work to catch up and you could use this time for a hundred different things right? Service providers lose the opportunity to generate revenue when you cancel last minute, it’s stressful even if there is a cancellation list. If you happen to be one of the MANY who understands this, thank you🫶🏻. If any adjustments need to be made to your appointment I’ll happily accommodate you with proper notice. Not only did she pay my cancellation fee, but dropped a little extra in there like a real boss. My cancellation policy will be strictly enforced, last minute cancellations are $50, there will be no rebooking until the payment is received. There was a time, I hated doing color. The unrealistic, filtered perceptions clients would come with gave me anxiety. Now, it’s one of my favorite services. I worked and educated myself to be more confident. In comparison to a client, I’m the expert 😉 I went to school for this. Not that they cannot have an opinion or voice, but I know color theory, tones and textures. Hair color should be fun and uplifting. Not a session of you critiquing every hair, telling me what am influencer did, what your friend thinks nor comparing it to social media. If you’re iffy, it’s ok to wait.
