Learning the balance. Let me tell you something, it is not as easy as most women make it look! Trying to work while raising a newborn, trying to run a business while learning to keep a child alive...it's ROUGH. And I mean rough as in there are days you can't work on your stuff, undisturbed, until 11pm at night. The other night I stayed up until 1230am working on a newsletter, and got up 3 times between then and 6am with my daughter. I still have so much to accomplish. All the things I put on my quarantine to do list in April, that are half done or not done. All the plans I had for the behind the scenes on my business since sessions were not as busy. Not many of those can happen with a baby. I have accepted this and done my best, and hoped that others would understand. We are all trying, in this new world of ours. It has become more long term, more pressing. There are more worries on the future even though we have adjusted to the way things are right now. Give yourself grace. Give yourself some slack. 5 Things I Am Thankful For; Personally + Professionally: 1. My parents, husband + daughter : The ones who have always pushed me to do what I love, supported me in my artistic vision, and have inspired me in my art. 2. The Santa Ynez Valley : Home. Always has been and always will be. I'm Incredibly lucky to have started my business in a town that gives so much to a small business. A community that supports, and works together. A beautiful backdrop + location that is unmatched. Word of mouth. 3. Paper : If you know me, you know I love allll the paper. The notebooks, the post-its. I have a much deeper connection and understanding of things when I write them down. It helps me remember, and looking back at my photoshoot notebooks, years later, is nostalgic. 4. Working from Home : Being able to work from home is such a blessing. Having my office overlooking my family's gorgeous ranch, and the SY Mountain range, only a short walk from my home, it can't get better. 5. 4 years ago since this fun wedding! Missing wedding season a little extra right now. How are you holding up? Are you staying busy? I know with the lockdown, it's an uncertain and stressful time (who knew a trip to the grocery store would be so nerve-racking?!). This past weekend I got to photograph the marriage of two wonderfully deserving people. In the midst of this craziness of the COVID-19 era, the pause in large gatherings and most celebrations, being a part of this day made me realize there is hope. There is hope that this will pass sooner than later. There is the appreciation of what we have. There is the excitement of being able to hug and be with one another again one day. But as these two showed this weekend, love doesn't need the large party, the decor, the perfect venue. When it comes down to it, love just needs the two people in which it resides. That is such a simply humbling realization. ▪️I think the saddest part of the effect of the quarantine is the pause in family get-togethers. Families are visiting with windows between them, Facetiming over dinners together.... thankful for the opportunity to video chat and send photos to stay connected. ▪️With spring + Easter right around the corner, family sessions are now on pause. This makes me sad, but it is for the best. The more we can keep this from spreading, the quicker we can go back to regular life. ▪️My plan right now is to offer Christmas in July sessions: a one hour family session in the location of your choice. You will receive a flash drive of the edited photos and a shareable blog post. When you want something badly, you will do anything, right? 😉 I always wanted to make sure Roqi and I had plenty of photos of us together. But sometimes there was no one who could take that photo. So we mastered one trick for that and got pretty good at it. When Brixton was born, that desire probably tripled. I’ve been thinking lately again about how much I depend on the weather! 😅But seriously: there is so much to choose from in the world! ✨ For example cold northern climate: been there, done that almost all of my life. Seasons are fun but yet unfortunately with Russia it’s often just cold/rainy/gloomy the majority of the year with occasional warm sunny days. But at least it’s kind of more stable with natural disasters. There are forest fires but they are still not what I got to experience here in Los Angeles. Now living in So Cal, I’m very grateful to have a lot sunshine. The cold ocean gives a nice breeze and it doesn’t get humid often because of it either. Nothing is perfect though: the ocean is just too cold to swim and there are earthquakes and terrifying fires. And then for example some more tropical places: amazing water to swim in, lovely warm weather, but yet gets very humid with more rain and devastating hurricane seasons. ✨ So what would you guys choose if you could? 🙃 . . . . Seriously, the best part about my job: amazing people I meet! Seeing your happy smiles and love just makes my heart sing! I would move mountains for you, scout for hours through thorny bushes for the best locations for your story, find another make up artist who couldn’t make it last minute, lend my dressy shoes or umbrella or hairspray that I keep in my car in case you forgot one, make sure you are hydrated on a hot day, pretend to be a goofy monkey for your child to get the sweetest smile! 😄 ✨ I get very attached to you, my dear couples and families and think about you often! I want you to know that! ✨ Gosh, almost like a love letter! 😅 ✨ This just keeps me thinking: when I was a teacher back in Moscow, most I cared about was my students progress and that they enjoyed learning. It was a private school for adults and the atmosphere of fun learning and drive to be better was incredible! I’m still friends with so many wonderful people from that school. Today it’s all Disney for me! I’m forever a fan and will never stop believing in fairytales! 🥰 Aladdin and The Lion King are by far two of my favorite Disney movies ✨ So today Roqi and I snuck out on a date to see the Lion King (thanks Mom @geridean and Dad for watching our boy!) ✨ I gotta say I loved it!! Graphics were incredible but I also specifically loved that they stayed the closest to the original 1994 movie. Well, guess what? Roqi in the contrary said he wasn’t impressed much saying that the plot was all the same and the original is better. To me they were both amazing! I do cherish the original for the animation a lot though! But of course everyone has their own opinion on that. ✨ And a couple of days ago I watched the new Aladdin. Let say this first though: the 1992 one is very dear to me. Maybe because I just like Jasmin always wanted to see the world too. And have a prince who I can share it with. And I’m lucky that my dream has come true just like hers! So I deeply cherish that. ✨ So watching the new Aladdin, I’m so sad to say that I didn’t feel it 😢 That magic that I always felt in the 1992 version just wasn’t there. I really wanted to like it but... 😢 ✨ So what about you guys? What do you think of the new Aladdin and The Lion King? . . . “You often feel tired not because you’ve done too much but because you’ve done too little of what sparks a light in you” ✨ I recently heard a Latin song from years ago when my husband and I used to go to latin music bars with a young crowd to hang out with friends, dance bachata, salsa, reggaeton etc back in Moscow. I used to go to dance schools with regular group sessions to practice rock-n-roll, swing, cha-cha, jazz, and even stretching through beautiful dances. Gosh, I enjoyed it so much! I don’t say I’m good at it but it just sparked so much joy in me! Even now when I hear a fun dance tune at times, I start swaying without even realizing 😊 ✨ I keep on looking for something like this here and all I see is kids or elderly dance classes, gym classes and occasional salsa night in some restaurant. I assume LA center has something like that but oh man it would take me 1-1,5 hours of driving one way. But I keep looking! ✨ What about you guys? Is there anything you used to do and somehow stopped but want to do again?? . . .
