“You won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, because you are champagne.” I just finished this lovely blue oval 💙
I did an experiment and used only Oil Sticks, (not to be confused with oil pastels) to create this big piece. I thought it would be fun and freeing and it was. The sticks look like huge crayons and are typically used for mark making on paintings during the process of painting them. I loosely drew in an area and then blended the paint with my gloved fingers. Several different colors of sticks were overlayed and combined with my fingers in each area. I think it made for a very moody and atmospheric seascape. At the end I brought out a palette knife and added a bit of texture to a few clouds. Reflecting back on 2023 and wanted to share this incredibly special project. My friend wanted to get something special for her parents 50th wedding anniversary and approached me with the idea of a commissioned piece of art with a twist. When her family got together this summer I sent her with a custom cut and prepped canvas rolled up and ready paint along with paint, brushes, and tools. Together she and her family made their marks and retuned the canvas to me to finish and frame. We had an idea of color and style before they began painting and left it to me to finish.
