Back for another ramen adventure! Menya Juemon describes their broth as being composed of “four elements”: chicken, pork, fish, and mushrooms. The results are excellent, with the balance of flavours done perfectly in the shoyu ramen I ordered. Our group also shared the mushroom gyoza, which came out appropriately hot and went really nicely with the truffle salt. Other members of our party ordered the pork curry, which was very good, and the vegetarian tan tan men, which was reportedly a bit weaker in terms of flavour. The servers were very friendly as well, providing us with complimentary amuse bouche-type dishes, one of chicken flavoured deep fried ramen bits, and another of bean sprouts and pork. Overall, this was a very good dining experience. Japanese Ramen is a competitive space in Vancouver and within a one block radius of this shop alone there are 3 other ramen shops, all of good quality. Menya Juemon is at a slightly higher price point than the other nearby shops, but I think it is offering something extra in quality and service that justifies this, and it was unfortunate we saw almost no other patrons come and go during our time there.
