We would like to congratulate Sam and the National Show team on their tireless work and dedication in pulling this huge schedule together 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 To help promote this amazing show, and to thank our members for their support this year, Area 9 are offering a grant for our members attending the Nationals. This means that anyone who has taken part in a 2024 Area 9 Show, one of our recent Winter Series Clinics or Camp North and enters and competes in at least 1 SSA class at the Nationals this year will receive a £50 cash payment at the show. We are aware that the costs involved with travelling to the National Show from Scotland are hefty but hopefully this little grant will soften the blow and give you some extra hard currency to splash on show shopping or whatever you like. Last weekend was the first Side Saddle Association Camp North and what a magnificent weekend it was. Organised and hosted by @ssa_area_9 Scotland, there were also campers from area 2. it was an action packed weekend, great facilities, great catering (thank you Beverley), fabulous company and general enthusiasm, all alongside lessons, a quiz, turnout demonstration and culminating in a show. On a personal level, I couldn’t have felt more proud of all the riders I’ve been working with over the past year through a programme of clinics. It was fabulous to stand watching the show from the ringside as it was being judged by SSA Chairman, Vanessa Hood and see the progress of everyone and the smiles of the riders said it all. I even enjoyed camping for the first time in about 25 years and Smudge definitely enjoyed her camping trip too ⛺️ #sidesaddleassociation #campnorth #sidesaddle

With us he’s been to XC, SJ, hound exercise, trail hunting, side saddle & he’s been up & down the country showing. Out trail hunting he stands beautifully at the meet, he knows when to go & when to stop & he has an engine to go all day. He’s great at big events, he loves the atmosphere & he has a big look at me presence. Nelson not only moves beautifully but he jumps very well & he enjoys it. He hacks alone & in company & he’s 100% in all types of traffic. RoR eligible - he only did a couple of races before we started retraining him in the winter of 2021. He’s a lovely & easy man to be around with no vices. He’s a self loader & will stand on or off he box all day with no issues. He’s good to shoe, clip, groom, travel, bath & so on. He’s sound, fit & ready to go. Nelson has been nothing but great for us over the years. First sideways show of the season happened in early April ❤️ We took 3 from our yard and despite the horrible wind had a great day!! For a start it was just so lovely to see everyone out at a show again. Including meeting some new faces 🥰 We had Penny, Pogo and Barry out and each of them were a little fresh in the conditions, but over all worked really well! Barry and I took the win in the Best horse, Penny and @jemima.s.equestrian won the equitation and top junior while I was best Adult. And then Barry was awarded Champion and Penny Reserve ❤️ Pogo almost held it together and had some great 3rd placings throughout the day, but couldn’t help reminding us that he is actually far too advanced for his own good 😂 @aprillilyedwards doing a great job of managing his exuberance! Onto the next one in May with hopefully some better conditions! 🤞 We’ve also got the small matter of @royalwindsorhorseshow in between 😅 slightly nervous having never been before!!! #sidesaddle #sidesaddleriding #sidesaddleassociation #elegant

A bit of a red letter week for Glynis, our Area 19 Chairman. Delighted to receive her and Storms’ National Performance Competition Adult overall 2nd place and Championship Rosette, together with the graceful Wooden Horses Head ‘Age Aside’ Trophy, presented by Shirley Outram for the Mature Riders Championship. This is one of 20 possible Championship Trophies that competitors compete for in the National Performance Competition each year. Followed by a fun jumping day at Brigg View Farm on Easter Saturday. A very nifty flag retrieval and cone placement, together with cantering through rather narrow parallel poles, meant that Glynis and Storm won the Handy Horse/Pony class, against 9 competitors and received a rather gorgeous Easter sash. Then into the first showjumping class, overcoming understandable nerves, Glynis and Storm completed a first round and jump off in a maintained rhythm, with a very unlucky pole off at the last fence. The icing on the cake for Glynis was to be competing alongside her new daughter in-law, Harriet with Maisie, as they are back on their competitive track with a view to starting side saddle again very shortly. 💃🐴 Mid week Dressage 🐴💃 Shout out to area members Lindsay and Prada who ventured out for a bit of mid week wonky dressage. The pair finished overall 2nd and 2nd in the gold section. In a competitive novice 37a class, Prada did a beautiful test getting lots of compliments from other competitors and also the judge recievinv 67.40% But this means they have now qualified for the Novice Section of the Cavago BD associated side saddle championships! Woohoo! To finish their day the pair also did their first PSG astride finishing with 2nd and 60.88% Absolutely amazing, congratulations and we look forward to cheering you on in the championships later in the year! "Our Area Chair, Glynis riding Storm, flew the flag for Area 19 at the first competition of 2024 at Brigg View on Saturday at the fun Valentines jumping show. We know Glynis has already shown speedy letter posting with her right hand but didn’t realise she was also speedily ambidextrous !! To be placed 4th out of 10 competitors in the Handy H/P. Glynis also achieved her first side saddle jumping round and jump off in the first jumping class. This included a very unexpected treble combination. An unlucky 4 faults relegated her from 8th to 12th out of 15. But this was much more about personal achievement rather than class result. Maintaining a steady rhythm with a correct approach, correct side saddle position and ride away from each fence."
