Задля зниження собівартості фарбували машину тільки в три кольори: чорний, білий та блакитний. За 25 тисяч доларів покупець отримував машину, що могла кинути виклик суперкарам того часу: до сотні Cosworth розганявся за 6.2 секунди. Єдиною проблемою було отримати страховку на таку швидку машину, а з часом додалась ще одна - Cosworth стали дуже популярні серед викрадачів. На протязі конвеєрного життя машина постійно змінювалася: з’явився повний привід, кузов став 4-дверним седаном, але найбільш цінною вважається омологаційна версія RS500 1987 року. Розроблена в партнерстві з Tickford, RS500 додала в потужності 20 к.с., отримала жорсткішу підвіску, більші гальма та додаткові отвори для охолодження збільшеного інтеркулера. Авто стало ще швидшим, а підготовлена по групі А 385-сильна гоночна версія стала грізною силою на кільцевих трасах. Загалом, на Sierra виграли чемпіонат WTCC 1987 року, ETCC та DTM у 1988, BTCC у 1990-му, а японський турінговий чемпіонат було виграно тричі. Доступність авто, як це часто буває, не дуже посприяла усвідомленню його цінності. 🩶 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 🩶 Delighted to see this RS back up in the Highlands, after what must be 20+ years since I saw it last. It has been in this week at The Steading, to get freshened up and looking smart for the new owner. Paint depth readings are important with every job, but even more so with a classic vehicle such as this RS. Easy to forget this model is now 35 years old. 😮 Very low figures were found so a light single stage machine polish was the route chosen to go with. Slowly, all the swirls and light defects removed, while leaving a nice gloss to the appearance of the beautiful Metallic Flint Grey paintwork. Ford Recaro leather interior valeted and the legendary Cosworth engine bay delicately cleaned and trims dressed. ℹ️ Now we are in March, more and more classics will be awakening from their winter sleep and going back on the road to be enjoyed.
