Storytelling is where my heart has been lately. I started journaling more in detailing. This session was one like that. I believe God turns beauty from ashes. Cassie and Mike reached out to me on a Sunday to see if I could fit them into my schedule on Monday! God put it on my heart that I had too. When we pulled up to Silverthorne I had no idea where to take them. I asked God to take me to the right location because I had only been in town one time. We walked to this specific spot with the perfect light, the perfect surroundings. And let me tell you. God showed up! Cassie and Mike had all the emotions. Tears of joy, the breeze that came from the little chilly evening, the impactful story I got to learn! Where it gave me hopes that I serve a big powerful God. Totally forgot I took this picture. I wanted a couple self portraits before my favorite location was too buried in snow. It happens fast and before you know it you need snowshoes to access this. So last weekend for our anniversary, my husband and I went to this outdoor clothing store in Colorado called Melanzana. If you're familiar with the store you know that it's a pretty exclusive brand these days. 👀 You need to make an in-person reservation for their hand made items and reservations are booked at least a week out. Anyway, I ended up getting this brightly colored sweatshirt- colors I don't usually wear. Switch it up a bit! That night, I was feeling buyers remorse. I wanted to go back and get the the deep purple and blue sweatshirt instead of the bright teal and yellow one that I was wearing. Matt cracked his usually jokes and started making fun of me and my "Moody" clothing choices that I always make. Reassuring me that what I got was great. Anyway! It got me thinking about my art. And it made me laugh. I'd say my work is pretty moody. True to color. One of my goals this next year too is to incorporate some sort of extra grit, or rawness to my images. I'm coming up on my one year of business! Almost one year since my first professional photoshoot. What a ride. I started out catering to my local community. Offering low prices to build a portfolio and learn as much as possible. I was then able to slowly broadened my horizons and charge my worth (although that will more than likely change once I get to my taxes 🤪). I trusted my gut. I learned so much, I invested in myself, and I've been able to create something I'm extremely proud of. I've got a lot more work that I'm so excited to put into this but I just wanted to reflect a bit. I'm forever grateful for the community that I live in. The community that I grew up in. My mind is all over the place right now. Autumn is right around the corner. It's the busiest time of year for my business and I'm anxious and nervous and excited! But immediately after this season, it's the slowest time of year for my business. 😅 I'm equally anxious and nervous and excited for that. I get to reflect on my year. Today is my baby girls last day as a 3 year old 😭😭 I'll be signing out later today and for the weekend to give her all of my love. . Also, real quick, I've been so excited to shoot at this location! A little Before and After comin at 'cha! ☀️ There's a reason I underexposed this lovely mama and son here and that was to keep the sunset and sky glowing. How awkward is it doing self portraits?! Especially using a tripod and with your family staring right at you? 🤣🤣 It had to be done though. My family. 💛 I never take pictures anymore of my family! I've enjoyed being more present with them, taking that energy and giving it to my other families who hire me to do so. It feels good to do this though, especially during our family getaways. . And why not put on some cute dresses and twirl? Emma's dress and my dress are both in my Client Closet, ready for you to wear and for you to get dirty for your own family shoot. 💫 . Update on my kiddos! Sage officially turned 1.5 over the weekend! He's straight up talking. My big boy 😭 oh and he's laughing at his own farts.... BOY. Through and through. 🤣 Emma starts Pre-K soon..... WHY do kids need to start school before labor day? Seems like a crime. Her favorite new thing is taking 135875 pictures with my cell phone. Wonder where she gets that from. 💁🏼‍♀️ .

🌸🌼Did you know that it's illegal to pick wildflowers in Colorado? 🌼🌸 It not just leaves behind less beauty for other hikers to enjoy but it's extremely damaging to our already sensitive ecosystem. Picking just one flower seems harmless but MILLIONS of people visit our public lands each year. If everyone just picked one, or just trampled on a few for the best photo, they all will die. . These Indian Paintbrush are pretty rare to see in abundance in my area. Unfortunately, I saw a dad and his little girl with an entire bouquet of them picked and in hand while I was scouting this location. 😭 Seemed like such a sweet and innocent moment but if they only knew how delicate it really is here. So, this is just a friendly reminder not to trample on the flowers, not to pick the flowers. When a moose majestically swims to shore from the lake during your shoot, you know you're exactly where you're suppose to be. Peep her in one of the slides. 🌦️ . I did not think this session was going to be a go. It straight rained on us the ENTIRE time. They were good with it though. Some Before and Afters for your Friyay! 🌼 . Hey a tip for anyone who wants to get better at taking pictures with their new fancy camera: Take pictures in JPEG if you want your photos to come out beautiful straight out of camera. Maybe you plan on throwing a quick filter on there? Yep, jpeg. Take pictures in RAW if you plan on editing the entire image using a photo editing platform such as Lightroom CC or Adobe ACR. 🌼 Any other reasons why someone should shoot in JPEG vs RAW?

Can I just say that summertime in the mountains is just perfect? The weather, the scenery, the vibe? Getting family photos taken in the summer can be unbearable in some climates but here.... Whoa.... I'm been MIA. Not with my work. Just sharing on here! I'm so happy we get to live life more normal this summer. With community events poppin and friends and family visiting. It's been a literal breath of fresh air.... But I must admit I still feel strange walking into an establishment without a mask. What kind of sneak do you share for a family of soon to be 12? Yes, twelve! A detailed shot? Mama with the babes... dad? No, Definitely the snuggled up poetic group shot! . We danced in the rain for this session. And if it weren't for the never ending future rain forecast and this adventurous families desire to go for it, I would never have made a makeshift rain guard for my camera using a plastic garbage bag 🤣 Luckily my gear stayed safe and now I have endless photos of abundance love, laughter and rain to edit in the coming weeks. I haven't done my top session package in awhile and oh how I LOVE them. It's a full on experience with your family. You can relax and be and just have fun. Then, when you get your photos back, you can fully embrace your story of that night. That night when everyone pulled together to document your now, who maybe felt a bit rushed to dress up nice and make it in time just to feel that rush melt away as you play in the dirt and water and snuggle your babies. You get to look at these images and remember every moment, every detail, everything that in 20 years from now, will still remind you just how you were in this season of you life together. . I may be over sharing this session in the couple weeks because there's just too many amazing photos NOT to share. I could barely choose for this carousal! HOW is Father's Day already this weekend? I'm feeling pretty grateful for the roles dad's have in our kids' lives these days. Hearing stories of our how parenting worked during our grandparents days, and even parents days, makes it hard for me to even grasp. Like dad not being able to be in the birthing room or dad never once changing a diaper. If my husband refused to change a diaper I'd probably leave him. 🤣🤣 . We're all constantly learning and evolving when it comes to raising children and the way things are moving is going to change the world. SO thankful for all the dads out there doing it right!❤️❤️ . Another day, another sneak peek. This time for my girl, @colleerado 🌕💖 This shoot was rescheduled due to thunderstorms and the date change just happened to land on the full moon. Serendipitous! . Summers in the mountains of Colorado are quite possibly my favorite thing in the world. Everyday is perfect. AND, every afternoon there's a chance for a quick rain or storm but it generally lasts no more than an hour or two . If you see afternoon storms in the forecast, which you will, know it's probably just going to be a few raindrops before the sun comes out again for an epic sunset. In Colleen's case, the night of her original shoot was a full blown, sit on the porch type, crazy all evening thunderstorm. A rarity and a treat for us! . A reminder to my families, I shoot during sunsets (or sunrise)! It's rare to cancel a session because of weather. And in cases that we must, I always keep my schedule just enough open that we can usually reschedule within that same week. 🥰

Finally got my hands on my besties gallery last night and I couldn't help but get a sneak peek ready. 😭 Love this mama and her family through and through. 💞 It touches my heart when friends choose to book with me. With that said, it's important to book a session with a friend because you love their art and style not just because you know them. If you're into a bright and perfectly posed style and you book with me, you'll just be disappointed. Shout-out to the work from home parents! It's nearly impossible to stay focused and care for you babies simultaneously. I took the plunge though and invested more into my business. Today is Day 1 of my kiddos with a nanny. 🙌🏼 Just a couple days a week and it's going to be so good for me and my business but for them too. 🌼 . Going from my dry and mild mountain escape to my florescent green, hot and humid, Midwest roots! ✈️ We're coming for you this weekend, Minnesota! I've carved out time to photograph some of my Minnesota peeps during this short trip and I'm soooooo excited about this. All the lush greens and big skies is a whole new ballpark than I'm used to shooting in but that's what makes it all the more thrilling! I love Colorado. So many different climates and environments within such a short drive from one another. It can be cold and snowy in the mountains and in the same moment 70 and sunny in Denver. Just a 30 minute drive away! Except for this past weekend. Thunderstorms all around and a rescheduled photoshoot later 😅 A rarity in this arid state.😘 . So happy to have this gallery delivered today! When my computer crashed last week there were so many unknowns on when I'd be delivering these beauties. But, here we are and I'm in love!

I didn't realize it until I looked at my calendar for something totally unrelated. My son hit another month marker! Dang is that exciting yet devestating at the same time. 15 months.... I try and hang on to every day of each month to keep him littler for just a bit longer. **For those who hate it when parents say their kids' age in months- that's 1 year and 3 months. 🤣 Then I looked up, at the images on the personalized calendar that my mother in law gifts us every year for Christmas, and saw this photo I took on Sage's 1 month birthday. Both my babies, looking so tiny and sweet. Feeling safe in daddy's arms. Reminded me I'm one lucky mama.

Another reason to get in those pictures with your kids... And this time it's not about you. ❤️ Your kids will thank you. They will thank you everytime they look back and see the way you looked at them. The way you cared for them. The way you played with them. The way you sacrificed so willingly for them. And not to make anyone cry but, They'll thank you the most when you're gone. When these pictures are all they have. ❤️ I love looking back at old baby pictures of me. Comparing them to my kids to see the similarities. But now that I'm a mom, the pictures I love the best have my mom and dad in them. Have my brother, my sister, in them. My family! Those pictures mean so much more to me now than any with just me and my cute baby mug. Mother's Day is less than a month away!! And you know what every mom wants? Good pictures of her with her kids. It's so simple. It's mud season! That in between time when the earth is waking up again from it's slumber. Colorado resorts and restaurants kind of shut down in preparation for summer visitors. Locals are unsure whether to go ski or hike-- we are sure though that whatever we choose conditions won't be the best and trails may be closed. It's our shoulder season! The next couple months are a time when things can slow down and we can reset. 🙌🏼 Here are THREE great reasons why you should schedule your family photos during this time. :) ⭐ Less crowds! Who likes getting pictures taken in front of a bunch of strangers? Not me. Fewer tourists and weekend warriors means more space for us! ⭐ Best of both worlds. If you want warm sun, let's go to Denver. If you want a mini snowball fight in your t-shirt, let's stay in the mountains. ⭐The best lighting is sunset. So that's when we shoot! Sunsets during mud season are still early enough that you can get the kids home and to bed at a decent time. AND, not have to worry about freezing temps. So if you're a stickler on bedtime for your littles, you're not going to want to wait. :) Ps. This is my family pictured above! Saying heyyy ☺️☺️☺️
