The beauty of a painting is found in the brush strokes, contrast and perspective, but also in the way that it is hung. The @nationalgallery is full of fantastic artwork which is brought to life through thoughtful positioning and framing, and this is something that we aim to achieve in our own projects. This trio of frames subtly enhances the neutral tones of the prints within and creates a beautiful contrast to the darker colours, making them pop!

This lovely bedroom is the perfect setting to recoup a little time to yourself after a day of working, looking after children or even just soaking up some much-needed sun. The relaxed country aesthetic brings to mind a slower pace of life which helps the body to unwind, and paired with authentic yet popular touches like the wall panelling behind the bed, it is a perfectly balanced room in which to rest. #SimsHilditchintheCity #ModernCountryInteriors #BedroomDesign #EnglishInteriors #BedroomDesignInspo
For those of us lucky enough to have a garden, these private spaces are sure to serve as a literal and metaphorical breath of fresh air for the immediate future. Think of your garden as an extension of your home, creating cohesion with harmonious colour palettes that flow from the outdoors in. #SimsHilditchintheCity #ContemporayCountryInteriors #EnglishInterior #GardenDesign #BespokeInteriorDesign #StayHomeStaySafe #MyPandemicSurvivalPlan
What sets classic country style apart from something more contemporary? A traditional abode might typically use a matching set of sofa and armchairs, while modern country style embraces a less formulaic look, for example, opting for a range of seating styles in different fabrics. #SimsHilditchintheCity #ModernCountryInteriors #EnglishInteriors #BespokeInteriorDesign

How does one capture that feeling of a hotel-worthy bedroom at home? To us, the perfect bedroom is one which strikes a balance between a calming aesthetic and clever pragmatic design. The bed should work as the centrepiece, but should never stand alone. We like to think of the side tables and footstool as a triangle that surrounds and anchors the bed. These elements have an important aesthetic impact while being practical too. #SimsHilditchintheCity
Just like a painter would visualise the finished composition before he begins painting, we consider the styling of a space from the very start of the design process. Once we have chosen furniture, we begin to think about accessories. A large bookcase or display cabinet only truly comes to life once it has been styled; just like a coffee table or ottoman feels truly ‘part of the furniture’ once books and a floral display has been added. #SimsHilditchintheCity
The start of a New Year is the perfect time to declutter and refresh your home. Resist the urge to completely cull all accessories leaving a bare, characterless room. Instead, try grouping multiple objects together and propping paintings or prints on shelves to maximise space. #SimsHilditchintheCity
The headboard on your bed is like the frame that surrounds a painting, it really sets the scene for the rest of the space. For a truly unique design, go bespoke. This bespoke headboard frames the bed and adds a sense of grandeur to this serene space. #SimsHilditchintheCity
For a wonderfully festive table setting, combine real foliage with faux greenery. Cinnamon sticks and dried oranges look wonderfully seasonal tied around napkins with twine for a simple and timeless place setting. #SimsHilditchintheCity
With dark wood experiencing a resurgence in popularity, it makes for a wonderful contrast alongside more contemporary pieces or painted furniture. Embrace the contrast and cherish the unique character of each piece. #SimsHilditchintheCity
Typically synonymous with classical interiors, pelmets are becoming a more prominent feature in contemporary design. Not only do they conceal unsightly fixtures, a pelmet frames the window space and feels considered and luxurious. #SimsHilditchintheCity
‘The contrast in decorating is like the mascara on a face – it completely brings it to life’. Our founder Emma encourages clients to embrace contrast, especially with furnishings. Pairing antique pieces with light upholstery, such as a neutral linen armchair is a simple way to achieve this. #SimsHilditchintheCity
When it comes to curating colour, we often look outdoors for design inspiration. The plethora of choices, particularly as the seasons change, creates the most incredible palette. #SimsHilditchintheCity
Adding a rich, ornate wallpaper to a bathroom space can transform a functional room into a luxurious haven. Smaller spaces can take a highly decorative design without feeling overpowered; here are a few of our favourites. #SimsHilditch
Situated in the stunning city of Bath, the design of this Grade I Regency Townhouse was very much influenced by the story of the building. From the very beginning, our designers felt it was integral to retain the Georgian architectural history throughout the house. #SimsHilditchintheCity

This Georgian home in the heart of Cardiff came with a truly heart-warming back story. Originally owned by a piano teacher with no children of her own, the house was left to a cherished past student with the original grand piano still standing in the drawing room. The current owners purchased the house complete with the same piano, and it remains a defining feature of the drawing room. #SimsHilditchintheCity
Boot rooms should be a unique blend of timeless elegance and hard-wearing durability; adding bench seating and cushions will introduce softness to the scheme. #SimsHilditchintheCity
Round mirrors will immediately add a contemporary twist to any space, especially when hung above a fireplace. Play with size and proportion here to make a feature and highlight the contrast between traditional linear frames and the softness of a round mirror. #SimsHilditchintheCity
Small spaces can provide the perfect opportunity for statement wallpaper. The simple layout of this small downstairs cloakroom means the @lewisandwood wallpaper can take centre stage and transform a basic space into something quite special. #SimsHilditchintheCity
The newly built Orangery of this Georgian house in Cardiff feels like a seamless addition with carefully considered design details. By recreating the cornicing from the main building for the frame of the glass roof, the effect is a harmonious extension of the original structure. #SimsHilditchintheCity
STUDIO NEWS | We are thrilled to announce that our founder @emma_sims_hilditch has been invited to speak at Decorex International on Tuesday. We also look forward to catching up with some of our favourite suppliers, old and new, who will also be exhibiting at the event. #SimsHilditchintheCity
A palette of dusky blue and stone grey set the backdrop for contemporary accessories, creating a timeless and calming aesthetic. Incorporating ethereal forest tree and foliage wallpaper from Lewis & Wood adds to the serene atmosphere. #SimsHilditchintheCity

#Repost @simshilditch ・・・ It is important to design the exterior space to fit harmoniously with the interior space to bring the whole home together. The garden space should be an extension of the indoor space. When seeking colours for the garden, just think of creating flow between the two spaces in order to create cohesion. We often consider the paint colours for exteriors of homes and how these will be harmonious both with our interior design, the garden and also the colour of the building materials. #simshilditchinthecity
Unexpected details make the biggest impact. We adore this Christopher Farr wallpaper, based on an original 1970s design and reimagined with a contemporary eye. Perhaps not the first choice for a Victorian terraced townhouse in the heart of Parsons Green, but those luscious tonal hues and delicate flora and fauna motif feel like the perfect fit. #simshilditchinthecity
We might be best known for our warming abodes in the English countryside but we aren’t averse to breaking out of our comfort zone. For our most recent project, a converted loft in a former piano factory in North London, we sought design classics and future icons to dress the space. Eclectic artwork and a bold colour palette imbued the loft with a thoroughly contemporary spirit. #simshilditchinthecity
Our clients wanted a scheme for three generations, so we needed to achieve a style that could comfortably cross the generations and seamlessly integrate family heirlooms. Welcoming rich earthy tones such as blues, greys and dark browms, much of the colour palette took inspiration from our client’s extensive artwork collection. #simshilditchinthecity
First built in 1866, the grand factory with its Victorian sash windows and brick façade had undergone a three year restoration project and our client brought us in to bring life and spirit to the space. A departure from our signature aesthetic, this converted loft was an incredibly inspiring canvas to work with, steeped in history and finished to an impeccably high standard. #simshilditchinthecity
This beautiful piece of artwork takes centre stage in this loft apartment master bedroom. The bespoke ottoman has been reupholstered in Bukhara Oasis fabric by @LewisandWood which draws on colours in the art and soft furnishings. #simshilditchinthecity

We are so excited to share a new project with you. This converted London loft apartment is situated in a former piano factory in Camden. Architecturally, the property features exposed brick and detailed steel work which embodies the buildings history. #simshilditchinthecity
Darker deeper colours such as red work best in a basement that are being used as a snug or a cinema room. These tones help build a wonderfully relaxing and cosy scheme, we find that a blue toned red is more contemporary whereas a warmer tone of red is more classic. #simshilditchinthecity

We get asked a lot about how we translate a country look for the city. It got us thinking about the differences and similarities between city and country living and how we address those when we design. Space is often at a premium in the city, so rooms have to be multi functional. We focus on creating an oasis of calm and make sure there is enough practical space. In the city the tendency is to plump for glass and metal, which feel sleek. There is nothing wrong with these materials but if overused they can make a space feel cold and glitzy. We create balance by introducing natural materials that bring texture and warmth. #simshilditchinthecity
We are excited to share a preview of a recent concept sketch for a private client. This impressive master bedroom includes statement lighting, architectural detailing and luxurious bespoke furniture. Whilst Sims Hilditch is synonymous with the term 'New English style' which is often associated with countryside living, we like to think that this aesthetic translates to city homes too. #simshilditchinthecity
Interior Architecture includes design decisions that are within the fabric of the building, such as cornices, staircases, internal doors and built-in joinery. We are well versed in period styles and able to advise on the correct designs for a property. We have designed a bespoke bookcase to fit in this space to create a contemporary dining and study space. #simshilditchinthecity
We specialise in a style that is calm and understated but with depth and authenticity. We strive to create classic interiors that will stand the test of time, carefully created from quiet colours and natural materials. #simshilditchinthecity
It was wonderful to work in harmony with the client and have full support to redesign the layout of this apartment. Our client wanted to create a classically contemporary look which would complement the historic character of the building. Lighting, textures and an easy-to-live-with palette of stone, blues and greys effortlessly link each room with the next, creating a wonderful sense of serenity and continuity. #simshilditchinthecity
Celebrate your antique pieces, they add gravitas and depth to an interior. Don’t worry about mixing contemporary furniture with modern art, this can often look very interesting. Here we restored this beautiful grand father clock that sits perfectly alongside a delicate soft green wallpaper. The bespoke sofa in a Hugo mustard fabric adds a wonderful pop of colour. #simshilditchinthecity
The original floor plan for this London home included a separate kitchen, dining room, playroom, utility and cloakroom with doors leading from a single corridor. The client had longed for a beautiful kitchen and entertaining area but the house in its prior form, lacked the much needed space. This was resolved by reconfiguring the design. The original basement level was small and dark so by extending at the rear of the property, the space became a functional, open plan area suitable for day-to-day living. #simshilditchinthecity
Our client loved blue tones on the warmer side of the spectrum. By juxtaposing blues with rich, brown shades, we accentuated that feeling of comfort. We also added pops of colour, such as mustard tones. #simshilditchinthecity
The benefits of designing bespoke upholstered furniture is that there is no compromise whatsoever. We always begin by discussing dimensions. Not simply because this is needed for us to create the frame, but because it is a subject often skipped. You are able to achieve what you consider to be the perfect depth, height and width to suit the rest of your room. The upholstery is a major part of the room’s decoration and it is crucial for every element to work together as a whole. We love to use contrasting fabric where it feels right. #simshilditchinthecity
The design for this townhouse bedroom was inspired by Emma's love for skiing. The chalet alpine feel has been achieved through the use of natural materials including the Norwegian Spruce rough boarding to create a pitched ceiling. #simshilditchinthecity
Our clients particularly loved this drawing room due to the light and the central fireplace. Art was an important aspect of the scheme therefore we commissioned a set of framed maps that were recoloured to add the finishing touch to the space. The large artwork also emphasises the homes elegant proportions and makes it feel more spacious. #simshilditchinthecity
The brief for this project was to create a chic Belgravia apartment that would be a comfortable haven by day and an entertaining, enjoyable space by night. The design concept for this property contrasts light reflecting materials with dark walls and plush textures to create a dramatic, yet elegant city apartment. This snug makes such a statement and sets the tone for the rest of the home. You really get a sense of the theme ‘light and dark’ here. #simshilditchinthecity
We were chosen to design a three bedroom apartment with the brief to bring elegance and a relined touch to this sought-after location in London. Our design concept was loosely inspired by Emma’s fondness of sailing in the summer and so we developed a tranquil palette of watery blues and soft greens set against a backdrop of linen and textured wall coverings to create a sophisticated scheme. #simshilditchinthecity
