We proceeded with the breeding process tonight! Here are the only pictures we managed to capture from the sessions as we opted not to share the rest for privacy reasons. Once again, Picasso and Coffee proved to be an amazing pair. There were no hiccups, no fighting โ everything just went incredibly smoothly! On the flip side, Negan and Starโs encounter had a bit of a different vibe. Star exhibited some anxious energy when it was her turn with Negan. We made sure to comfort her and offer treats, which seemed to alleviate her nerves. Gentle hugs around her head and neck also helped her relax, for which weโre truly grateful. If she hadnโt calmed down, we would have stopped the process immediately, but thankfully, everything else went smoothly! Arenโt they just adorable? I managed to capture this photo this morning when we went out to muck out the Icelandics. With Lilith moving into the city Aries is now become fully responsible for Kรฆpas care. We originally bought Kรฆpa as a foal, intending to raise her up and train her to eventually be Ariesโ. It was Liliths project for the past several years but with her now moving to the city she officially passed all of Kรฆpas responsibility to Aries. Aries already did a lot for Kรฆpa. She mucked her out, fed and treated her like she was already her pony. She kind of was but for the past several years of her being backed she hadnโt been allowed to ride her. Kรฆpa was an incredibly spicy and opinionated little mare when Lilith first started her backing journey. At first we thought there might be something wrong with her or her tack, as she would frequently bronc and buck, so we got it all professionally fitted, not that it fitted badly in the first place, and did various tests to make sure that Kรฆpa didnโt have any underlying physical issues that would making her act this way. Thankfully these all came back clear. We thought she was just a very spicy little pony. There were several points in her training process where we genuinely thought Aries would never get to ride her. Aries can deal with a lot. She is a very confident rider and has been riding since before she could walk. Literally I used to strap her in a basket on the back of our Shetland and take her out for hacks. But Kรฆpa managed to catapult Lilith (who has again been riding since before she could walk and specialises in training difficult and young horses) across our arena 5 times in a 15 minute schooling session! Plus managed to dump her in a field, a lake and a ditch on multiple occasions out hacking. Lilith just didnโt know if she was comfortable letting Aries ride what we thought was such a crazy horse. But thankfully with time, and our realisation that Kรฆpa is actually an incredibly hormonal mare and greatly benefited from balancing supplements, she began to calm down. She stopped trying to throw Lilith off at every chance and actually became a very well rounded pony. :Story continues and comments!
