It's nearly impossible to move the arm forward enough to install the cable wing nut. I can barely manage a 3-4mm movement with the wrench strap, it's frustrating. I don’t think I’ve ever posted this, but this is the biggest art piece I’ve ever done or ever sold. It was super out of my comfort zone, and I honestly did not love the process (kudos to you mural artists—my back is still killing me just from touching it up the other day), but I love how it turned out, and I especially love how much fun Matthew had with it. This was his daily driver during high school, and it was his vehicle for having some fun adventures and meeting some quirky characters. VW people have their own distinct culture, and they are pretty fun. Alas, he is off to new adventures in which he doesn’t need a Volkswagen but does need the cash, so he sold it the other day to a very nice schoolteacher from New York who will likely take it on the adventures it deserves to go on, rather than having it languishing in our driveway for the next several years. He plans to keep the paint job, which made me happy. I’m hoping it will be a big hit with his students. Since I never plan to paint a vehicle again, I will tell you exactly how I did this. I custom mixed Rustoleum Tractor paint, of all things, because you can mix some good colors (if you’re brave), and because it’s bulletproof. And then I just freehanded it and tweaked every wave until they looked how I wanted them to. I’m a little sad to see it go, but I’m thrilled for Matthew to move on to big, exciting things.
