Sooooo my worst fear has come to pass: Goldie needs a new steering rack 😭😭😭 I was gonna replace my power steering belt and front brake lines but after seeing *only* the passenger side inner tie rod boot glowing after putting some UV dye in the reservoir, I decided to wait until after swapping out the rack. @hayward_alignments has realigned this car several times in the past year but the car would keep eating through tires! When the right passenger wheel would click while spinning I knew something was going out so I looked at what most people would do while checking for wear: wheel bearings, ball joints, outer tie rods, control arm bushings, motor mounts. Ironically everything was bad so I replaced them. But the wheel was still clicking! I tried swapping to a stock steel wheel to rule out something left by a tire tech so the only things left were inner tie rod, rack, rack bushing, and my floating sway bar. I pulled out the sway bar, remembered the inner tie rod was still stiff from doing the outer tie rods, so I checked the lock washer that you're supposed to bend against the inner tie rod. I recently took a trip to rural Dorset to meet a secret community of farmers building the UK’s sickest early 2000’s people carriers. Every year, more and more get built in secret, in small workshops dotted across the Dorset countryside. Many farmers are aware their neighbours are also building but most are blissfully unaware. From Renault grand scenic facelifted espaces, to Toyota Previas and everything in between, the level of build is high. This is the first time I’ve been to an 80s and 90s/retro themed meet with specialized stance builds. But damn! What a refresher! It was worth the long haul! We met some really cool people and the crowd’s vibe was on a whole new level of chill. No one’s showing off and revving the piss out of their cars, no one was talking sh** on how much faster their car is, and no obnoxious clout chasing. It reminded me mostly of the japanese “Bosozoku”.
