In 1995, I started working as a Research Assistant at Marmara University. After 25 years, I resigned and moved to England. Marangotus Hello friends, @felipe_lima_mirror here again, presenting the beautiful work of the great Brazilian photographer Gustavo, also known as “Marangotus” (@marang0tus). Marangotus is my partner from the photography collective @uai_collective, based in the city of Belo Horizonte. I chose this series while listening to “My Favourite Things” in the immortal version of jazz master John Coltrane, and it wasn’t a coincidence: the work of Marangotus is a lesson in improvisation, lyricism, and journey (with photos that strongly flirt with the abstract): I travel through the photos in the same way as I do with the sound of Coltrane, full of sophistication but meditative, calm (this song of Coltrane, not all work of course*). I hope you enjoy it! “Marangotus brings photography along as a companion. Graduated in Social Communication and pursuing a master’s degree in Information Science at UFMG, his interest in photography arose during his undergraduate years, during classes and immersion in the photography laboratory. He finds the perfect laboratory for the construction of his images and narratives in street photography. One of his major interests in street photography is editorial production, fueling his passion for books and teachings. He has had his works exhibited in public calls and collective exhibitions, independent zine publications, and contributed to the production of the two editions of the Co-fluir Photography Festival, held in Belo Horizonte. Dün bir akrabamızın Nişan törenine katıldık. Bu münasebetle biraz hazırlanınca belgeleyelim istedik. Poz vermeyeli uzun zaman olmuş ki biraz gerildim. Fotoğrafta da belli oluyor. Ancak asıl konu şu; Kahtalı Mıçı aklıma neden geldi ? Çocukluk travmalarımda her sorunun cevabı var bunu da biraz düşününce hatırladım. Şöyle ki; Dün fotoğrafımı kuzenim çekti. Mehmet dayımın en küçük çocuğu, tek kızı; Zehra. Su gibi bir güzelliği var fıstığımın. Albümde de görüceksiniz. Ancak oraya varmadan önce minik bir sürpriz bekliyor sizi. Ben şarkı söylemeyi seven bir çocuktum, eğlenirdim kendi kendime. Genç kızlığıma kadar bu durum böyle devam etti. Ta ki Mehmet dayım bir gün sesimi duyduktan sonra; Kim bu Kahtalı Mıçı gibi şarkı söyleyen ? diyene kadar… Kısmet değilmiş. Etrafımızda, gerçekleri acı da olsa yüzümüze söyleyen insanların olması büyük bir nimet. Bu sayede oluşan hikayeler de işin bonusu sanırım. Sıralama da tam olarak şöyle; Zehra, Dayım, Kahtalı. Serbest çağrışım dedikleri böyle bir şey mi oluyor ?
