The cold arrived right at the preparations for next tournament this upcoming weekend... Loads of time to reflect on my current form. It still feels weird. My game has been a lot worse earlier in my career, but I somehow have fought through to some good rounds. This year, I can manage to get some really good throws and putts going on every round I play, but the results have been awful. This off season hasn't been the way I wanted, with loads of stuff happening. Sometimes life just doesn't add up the way we plan and I haven't got the time or motivation to prepare myself the way I wanted because of various reasons. I'm not confident in anything in my game at this time, but I need not let myself hit rock bottom before I manage to turn the sinking ship up again - Bogey is way better than triple bogey! Now it's time to get that fighting spirit going and start believing in the things I've done so many times before. So, yep. First tournament of 2024 was a disaster, but I've never learned this much about my game in any tournament before. I had a pretty good f6 during round 1, but I never believed in my game. I didn't feel confident on tee, on the fairway nor the green. Round 2 started really really bad, but during back 9 I found my game, I nailed the gaps and drained the putts. I didn't do anything spectacular, it was just overall solid and I finished the round with a pretty good feeling. Round 3 started really good, with birdies on the first two holes and I continued to put myself in pretty good positions for my second shots during f9, but I didn't manage to handle my mid to short game in a nowhere close to acceptable. B9 started with a lightning delay, my mind went to other places, I didn't find the confidence again and the rain continued to poor down with grip issues as a result. It's weird, because result wise, I should be disappointed and only disappointed. But I'm not. During r2 b9 and r3 f9 I felt confidence and capabilities from tee I only recognize from mid summer last year when I played really solid golf, and probably the most solid golf of my career. I've been in the game long enough to know that If I continue to put myself in good positions from tee, I know that I will be able to take care of those positions during the season. And with my weird and short off season in mind I need to be kind to myself. I know what I can do, and I've seen it from time to time this weekend. It's not that far away. Disastrous 1,5 rounds. But, back 9 today was the most solid golf (without any spectacular stuff) I've played this year. Unfortunately I could not replicate my success from last year at the Green Man Challenge in Belgium. The first round was fine, putting me in second place but the next two rounds were straight garbage and I finished 21 strokes worse than last year! Woof! Will make practice a priority for sure to dig out of this hole that's become a bit of a pattern at recent events... Last weekend was a huge #discgolf weekend (and I needed a break!). It was the second event in the @shine_disc_golf_tour at @dsa_zoetermeer and it went pretty well. So, the @thoughtspaceathletics Pneuma. I tried it in about 0 celsius, almost no wind. The flight was really straight. It didn't fly as far as a Praxis (well, no other putter does) but it was easy to get a clean and reliable release. The Pneuma was dead straight in the circle as well, not as much fade as the Muse. Easy to release. The feel was great, I have pretty big hands, and the disc fits nicely. It has a bead, but nothing extraordinary. No wierd pressure or discomfort. Just easy point and shoot. A roller coaster season is slowly coming to an end. I've never performed this many 1000+ rounds during a season, but I've felt pretty lost on the course from time to time as well which made me perform really bad golf during some tournaments. Some of you have asked where I've been because of my inactivity here on IG and the answer to this is pretty simple. Since the Swedish Championship I've felt beaten and the motivation have dropped a bit.. But.. A couple of weeks ago I found motivation again and I participated in the Flipper tour finals. Another 1000+ round, but I was forced to dnf round 2 due to back pain. I thought I was over this, but I guess not. Another set back, in a different shape.. I'm happy I managed to win the tour tho ❤️. Because of this I'm forced to cancel the upcoming National tour event this weekend. Some casual tournaments left this season that I hopefully can participate in, but according to how my mind and body feel right now, my competitive season is over. I've been through some off seasons during my disc golf career. I know what will feel weird and how my game use to be during the colder months. But I'm not familiar with the feeling I've felt during this off season. My release have been awful, especially with putters and mids. My strengths over the last year's have been my game with the slower discs, and I'm terrified of losing my confidence with those discs. Today! I've found the release again after many hours of work. Disappointed and embarrassed. I went into this Swedish Championship with confidence. I've played great golf for some time now and I really felt I could do something during this tournament. After a day of reflection I've come to the conclusion that I put too much pressure on me. I had too high expectations on myself after performing pretty much every round over 980 during the summer, and I really wanted to prove for myself that I'm capable of doing so on a bigger stage as well. But I failed. First round was only a matter of survival. I trusted my putts and my approaches, but the rest was just garbage. During round 2 where I really needed my confidence on tee, I pretty much failed 15 out of 18 tee shots. The approaches wasn't good enough either. Let's just not talk about the third day at all. After the third day me and @lagge.l played a round of casual golf, and I once again felt confidence and that I'm actually capable of doing stuff, which made me both angry and satisfied. I really thought I was over and through this period of my nerves making me play like I'm on the course for the first time. But I guess it's a difference between a c-tier and the Swedish nationals. It's funny how little you know about the future. Two years ago I wrote this post (picture 1) after a tournament in Falköping. Almost exactly two years later (today), I checked my rating update, which I pretty much never do. (Pic 2) And I somehow ended up being at the point where I never thought I was able to. This is my highest rating of my career. My expectations for this season was to maintain my game form last year, (ended up about 950). So this is way above my goal this year, but 2023 isn't over yet. So, another week with loads of disc golf on the schedule. Yesterday i played a 1 round c tier and i managed to grab the win with another round at 990+. This season is like a roller coaster, some really good rounds and some really bad ones 🤣. Today I held another clinic at @discgolfarenagrosvad with focus on the x-step. A bunch of hungry disc golfers attended and I had a really good time in Finspång. This upcoming weekend me and @a_bishoperiksson will play the Swedish doubles Championship at A6 in Jönköping. After two terrible rounds, I finished off the tournament with a round where I could see fragments of the game and confidence I had last year. Some shakiness from time to time, but some drains from circle 2, some good scrambling, nice decision making and a couple of monster fairway shots. I still struggle a bit from tee, but it was good enough to give me some birdie looks. I'm not satisfied with my performance. But I'm satisfied with how I approached this tournament. After beeing sick and still being a bit short of breath and sore in my body I didn't think I should be able to perform at the level I'm capable of, but i love @westervik_discgolf and Alviken, I needed the experience and i tried to just go with the flow and enjoy the sport and the course, which I did (most of the time 😘). So, small tournament this Tuesday. @flipperdiscgolf charity tour. After having a cold for a while I came the tournament with pretty much no expectations. Golf wise it felt pretty good (1st place, -3) but my body screamed at me. I was sore and tired. On to this weekend, the first A-tier of the year. My body is still not 100% fit from the cold, but I need this experience and I'll try to not set my expectations too high. What a Saturday ! My first sanctioned event of the year and first time taking out my full @thoughtspaceathletics setup. Going into the weekend I was worried I was going to struggle with the tight wooden golf that I don’t get to play that often. Thankfully I was able to hit my gaps and play a constant controlled game. So, I thought: Why not give my forehand a chance again?! YES! You read it right!! I've been a backhand dominant player during my whole competitive career. But this season I might have confidence enough to use my forehand more often. Picture from one of my first throws today, second pick is from another throw about 2 hours later. Video is from about 2 hours later as well. It is far from perfect, but I'm really happy with my result from these hours. I successfully threw my @thoughtspaceathletics Mantra about 100 meters with my forehand!! That was impossible before (with a few lucky exceptions). But I'm not familiar with the feeling I've felt during this off season. My release have been awful, especially with putters and mids. My strengths over the last year's have been my game with the slower discs, and I'm terrified of losing my confidence with those discs. Today! I've found the release again after many hours of work.
