【Tiehua Inspiration】 Tiehua, which means iron pattern in Mandarin, is inspired traditional Taiwanese window metal bars that was originally meant to prevent break-ins. In the 1950’s and 60’s, Taiwanese started to see that it was not just a functional but also a decorative purpose for the house. The craftsman of these metal bars uses different techniques to manipulate the metal, creating unique lines and patterns to express their aesthetics and feelings. Those beautiful decorative metal bars can still be seen in many traditional Taiwanese houses and apartments even to these days and has become a unique style of Taiwanese cities. I drawed the inspiration from this traditional Taiwanese artistry, reinterpreted it with knitting techniques that creates lines, texture and patterns, it's a conversation transcends generations, past, now and the future. 台東。台11線 📍Taitung, Taiwan. 上一次到台東幾乎是十年前的事了。換工作的空檔，在新工作報到前一週，突然決定來一場說走就走的旅行，目的地選在陌生的台東。當時搭著火車、搭配台灣好行，從池上、關山、都蘭、台東市，一路到了太麻里，永遠記得在一個愜意的早晨，躺在海濱公園的堤防上，完全放空。 帶著這份美好，十年後，再度造訪心中的那處淨土❤️ 從台東市出發，這次走海線沿台11線一路往北，走過了小野柳的海蝕地形和加路蘭的海天一線，再次走訪了當年最愛的都蘭；看準潮汐時間趕到都歷沙灘，可惜天空不作美，無緣一睹網美級的『天中之鏡』。最北來到了三仙台，雖然跨海步橋維修中無法通行，坐在礫石海灘上吹風看海景，心中無比平靜！ 晚上到星星部落看台東市夜景，偶爾還有飛機從頭頂飛過，很推👍 今晚的最後，來到鐵花村，點了一杯調酒，聽著原住民歌手極富感染力的歌聲，雖著此時天中下著小雨，現場氣氛還是嗨爆！真的是最棒的一天結尾了！ Seas the day!!! Taitung, the most chill place in Taiwan. Last time (almost 10 years ago?) I visited this lovely county, through Chishang, Guanshan, Dulan to Taimali by railway. Impressed by the borderless green rice fields and unique tribes. This time I drive along the coastline on the provincial highway 11 from Taitung city, pass through Xiaoyeliu, Jialulan, Dulan, Douli Beach, finally arrive Sanxiantai. The view of the Pacific is really breathtaking and marvelous. The tranquil ocean view can absolutely calm my busy mind down. I can just lie down on the sand thinking nothing, listening sea waves sound. Day 6: Checheng to Taitung The wind was heavy in the morning. Having in mind that the route is long and not too easy we decided to set out as early as possible. The way from Checheng to Taitung is quite picturesque which made climbing up easy. We finally set our feet on the territory of Taiwanese indigenous peoples, and it is a beautiful territory indeed, relaxed and full of natural beauty. As we had our snickers break somewhere in Mudan township, Agata realised she left her wallet in the convenience store 2 hours ride back down the mountains. Only thanks to Mr. Dong, and old alumnus of Taiwan University who owns a farm, three cats and a three-legged dog, were we able to go back to Checheng to retrieve the wallet (driving in the back of Mr. Dong's truck). With a bit of delay we continued climbing until the Shouka Biker Rest stop. From there we quickly went down and continued riding up and down for what seemed like forever. Still, the views made up for the exhaustion. Finally, we made it to Taitung. It is a small village-like town which is mainly being known as a place you go to in order to get to the Green Island. Tiehua, 鐵花。 Designed by my dear friend Rastus @rastus0226, the cowl was inspired by the metal bar on windows of traditional Taiwanese houses 🇹🇼. Originally, Tiehua was used to prevent break-ins but over time it had tuned into decorative use. Rastus used his signature origami technique in this design so it has a beautiful paper-folding-like effect. Fun to make! And it does look like Tiehua a lot🤍 I love that @amirisushop themed this latest issue “Heritage” and worked with a Taiwanese designer. Due to complicated political reasons, we are not recognized as a country internationally and it is a sensitive issue to talk about for..well.. every other country. And so we desperately need more opportunities to be heard and seen. Even just within the knitting community, I cherish the chance to show people where we from and our own very unique culture. 東海岸藝文園區- 台東鐵花村音樂聚落 🌊 週一、二公休 🌊 週三~日 20:00~22:00 有音樂表演 🌊 週五~日 17:00~22:00 有農產、藝文慢市集 👉 結論: 請週五~日20:00~22:00來唷 原本以為台東好山好水（好無聊？），沒想到市區還有像鐵花村這麼熱鬧的地方。它有點像台北華山文創園區與台中審計新村， 但場地比較大、有許多特色造景，而且多了浪漫的現場演唱。我去的時候是星期天晚上，除了農特產及手作小物市集，也有販售調酒、點心的餐車，和特色貨櫃屋餐廳。 來到東海岸，遠離都市的喧囂擾攘，微醺地吹著風，看著鐵花村的人們- 有空就喝杯酒，心情好就彈著吉他唱首歌，突然覺得有些羡慕，或許生活本該如此自由愜意~~ Tiehua Music Village is a must-see in Taitung, Taiwan where you can be immersed in rich indigenous culture by enjoying local music, snacks, cocktails and handicrafts there.
