📈 Harvest 23 – Know your Costs ❓ We know our output but do we know our costs and opportunities? ❗️ Output is only half the story - Input costs and planning strategy are equally as important. • Proper rotation can reduce costs - it isn’t and shouldn't be all about 1 crop. • Plan long term rotation where possible, especially when working rented ground. • Select appropriate site for each crop to maximise yield potential. • Select varieties with a strong agronomic profile to reduce PPP application or losses. • Know your potential market and crop value where possible. • Know and Understand any any-value crops. • Know the costs of failure of contracts. • Availablity of add subsidies and crop support payments once it suits your farm rotation. • Know your cost of nitrogen verses CAN V UREA V LIQUID -- DRY. • Know the value of straw verses Straw Incorporation Scheme where available. • Understand the value of recycled Straw and crop residues. • Can you get and use organic manure n some crops? • Can you reduce PPP when using a chosen rotation, sometimes taking a long-term view? • Can you establish crop quicker and cheaper using certain rotation and/or crop selections?
