If you stopped by a Demetres recently, you might have noticed the stunning artwork adorning our Spring 2023 menu. We’re excited to introduce you to Chris Sisti (@chrissisti.signs), the talented artist behind the art. Not only is Chris a talented illustrator, she has also expanded into sign painting and gilding - which is a perfect medium for her retro-inspired art style. From her home studio in Windsor, Ontario, Chris talks about her art journey so far and her process in creating the lovely art for our spring menu. After a few busy months we’re finally back on IG! Thank you to @yubu_ca for inviting us to your private grand opening! These tofu pockets were next level and full of so much flavor. There are so many to pick from that we struggled to decide. We ended up getting spicy salmon, gochujang salmon, torched salmon, bulgogi, spicy crab salad and crab salad. All the flavors were bomb, but our favorites had to be the spicy crab salad and spicy salmon. We also got to make and try their buldak, which is a Korean style spicy chicken tofu pocket. If you like spice definitely recommend this one! We got to try the strawberry and grapefruit Cheong from @18feet.ca and they were delicious! The strawberry was on the sweeter side, while the grapefruit was more natural in taste. Both were super refreshing 😋 Can’t wait to come back to try more of their flavors 😋

For years @petitpotatotoronto was a weekly hangout spot for me and my friends. Their menu has so many yummy options to pick from. My family and I visited for lunch a few weeks back and there was something to please all our cravings. We got the purple yam waffles with popcorn chicken, mango soufflé pancakes, spot prawn seafood chazuke, chicken cutlet omurice with curry sauce, mentaiko udon with scallop and the steamed rice noodle roll Hong kong style. A few of my go to items are the popcorn chicken, soufflé pancakes,omurice and their sago desserts. Everything is always so fresh and flavorful.

Went to @kitayatakeout for the first time and tried their kinako and black sesame soft serve! I kept seeing this place all over my feed and finally got to try it, both flavours were super strong but I liked the kinako more! Definitely want to come back whenever they switch the flavours 😊

Went to @tanuki.restaurant and got the shrimp and scallop chawamushi, as well as the chicken omurice! Been here a couple times before and always enjoy my meal, and I felt the same again! I especially liked the omurice, the bits of salted egg yolk and the gravy made the dish super yummy. The chawamushi was great too, but it came with SO much rice (although can you really complain about too much rice?). All in all, I still left pretty satisfied!
@bostonpizzacanada has the best cactus cut potatoes. One of my go to items every time I’m here. They’re perfectly crispy and always fresh. I got the salmon power bowl which is my go to main. It’s a bunch of veggies, salmon and avocado over a bed of quinoa and rice. My friend got the chicken tacos and said they were good too. I’ve had their tacos in the past and loved them!

Tried @torisho.ca for the first time and got a bento box with dark meat karaage! I saw this place had great reviews and I love chicken karaage so I knew I had to try 😛 it came with rice, coleslaw, potato salad, and a miso soup. The chicken was super crispy and the sides were great! I especially liked the coleslaw. I’d definitely come back, especially to try the burger and wings next time.
Checked out @superfresh.to after seeing all the hype on insta! We tried the chicken satay from @jajan.ca and the chicken katsu sando from @katsupan.to. Both items were yummy but the satay was definitely the highlight of our meal. The chicken was perfectly grilled and the peanut sauce that it came with was so creamy. Overall, I had a great experience here!
Went to @dailoto for their tasting menu for dinner! This place has been on my list for years, and I’m so glad I finally went to try it. The tasting menu is different for every table, and they ask for your preferences at the start! I asked specifically for the deep fried watermelon and the Big Mac bao, both were super interesting bites. I especially loved the earlier courses, specifically the smoked trout betel leaf wrap and the crispy octopus and pork tacos. For our main course we had the hainanese chicken, and at this point we were stuffed but still finished it because it was so good! I’d definitely recommend the tasting menu for first time diners, but going back I think I’d just order off the main menu.
Making the most of the weekend warm weather with @moonsoju.official! I like to mix their original soju with equal amounts of orange juice, grapefruit juice, and sparkling water to create a refreshing drink. @sugarmarmalade.official is one of my go to spots for Hong Kong style snacks and popcorn chicken. One of my fav items there is the rice noodle rolls with sesame paste and hoisin. We also got the curry fish and beef balls, and the Japanese style popcorn chicken. The food is always good and normally there’s a wait to even get a table. We got lucky this time and slipped in right before the rush.
Our White Chocolate Coffee Cake is not to be missed. With alternating layers of coffee cake, white chocolate cake and coffee buttercream frosting, this is a combination made in heaven. Featuring Demetres🍒 Brewa Lipa
Went to the CNE over the weekend and tried tater tots from @getyourowntaters and croffles from @fuwafuwapancakes! The tater tots were super crispy and I especially liked the pulled pork one with mac and cheese! The croffles were also a great dessert to share, the tiramisu cream was especially yummy. So happy the CNE was back this year! Hope everyone had a chance to go ☺️
Anyone else go to @redlobster for the biscuits? These use to be the main reason I go, but they’re not as good in Canada vs the US. 😂 We popped by for lunch and got the deep fried calamari, shrimp pasta, fish burger with coleslaw and grilled chicken and shrimp with green beans and rice. Overall it was good and defiantly coming back for the fish burger as it was a crowd favorite. The fish was perfectly crispy, yet juicy and soft on the inside.
Went to @smorgasburgtoronto after hearing so much about it and had a great time! I tried the salmon nori taco from @albi.sushi, the satay skewers from @babiandco, and the majicha brownie ice cream from @goodgangicecream. I would recommend all three of these food items, the nori tacos were super crispy and light, and the marinade on the salmon was really flavourful. It was lightly seared too which I loved! The satay skewers were soo tender, and the ice cream was a nice and creamy end to the meal.
With the heat warning in the GTA we had to make a stop for some ice cream. Finally tried @rollzicecreams in Ajax and it did not disappoint. In the front we have a Pistachio and Rose rolled ice cream topped with cheesecake, mango chunks, passion fruit popping boba, and condensed milk. The second one is Pistachio Kulfi rolled ice cream topped with cheesecake, mango chunks, mango popping boba and condensed milk. These were the perfect treat for the hot weather and so refreshing. We don’t like overly sweet desserts, so these were great. The rose and pistachio was my fav. Can’t wait to come back and try more of their flavours! 😋
