For #nationalpetday, here's a soft launch of Archie! We're still getting to know him as we go into the second 3 of the 3-3-3 guidelines. I read a TikTok comment that said "please don't stop having and loving pets due to heartbreak because you have so much love to give and you need their unconditional love just as much". Indy would want that and we'll continue his legacy. It's not a replacement. It's a continuation. I feel guilt for moving towards loving again, but I think that guilt is based in fear of moving on, thinking it will erase what love was there and now physically gone, when in reality grief and happiness can coexist and not cancel each other out. My beloved ones that have passed on would want that. I'd want it for them. For anyone. There's still grieving and tears every day as it was 8 weeks yesterday for our new reality without our sweet Indy. I couldn't continue drowning in the grief and I was absolutely drowning. Archie has brought back doggy kisses, silly antics to laugh at, feeling pride when training (we've conquered sit, shake, and high five so far - which has also helped with name recognition), and taking stalker photos while he naps. Especially of that snaggletooth! Nurturing is good for the soul. He's his own character, some things reminds us of Indy but he's got a big personality and traits all of his own. Indy was fearful and Archie is fearless. He is more vocally reactive than we'd like, but we're doing our best to work and train past it. He loves people. At first, he wasn't food motivated at all. That's changed and it makes training much easier. He'd trade us both for a morsel from his high reward treat bag! He was on the streets a few weeks and then fostered before making his way from Texas! A BIG thanks to his foster mom/family @idee72 and Sue from @heloteshumane and her rescue @dogdiggityresq! Tomorrow is 3 weeks, so we're still knee deep in the process. Highs and lows galore, but we're all getting there. I'm grieving still, but no longer drowning. Some days are harder than others, but you press forward. And little by little, you can smile instead of cry when you see a photo or embrace a cherished memory.🩵🐾
