6 months of watching Romeo thrive 💓 When I was told Romeo’s story I was already open to adopting another pup but hadn’t started looking into it because I had just moved back from Europe, and was waiting to settle down before finding Bentley a buddy. But I truly believe that Romeo entering our lives was meant to be, because just 9 days after moving back home I received the news about a 6-month-old puppy in an abuse case. He was in poor state of health, and like many others, a victim of the business of breeding dogs and using them like cash cows. I picked him up no-questions-asked about anything, except what his condition was, so I could proceed to find him therapy and the help he needed. He not only had torticollis, which I assumed he developed from the place he was in and the awful conditions he was under, but he also had a terrible case of untreated Giardia - diarrhea with blood, contagious to other dogs and humans - as well as a growing bald spot on his forehead due to Demodex, which like psoriasis for humans, flares up in times of stress. Romeo was full of surprises from day 1, and while tackling all his health setbacks was a mission for everyone in the house, we are so proud of him for fighting hard, and we continue to celebrate every small step and progress he makes, whether it be going up the stairs a little faster, or having the strength to hold himself up to look out the window of the car - it’s all a win. So many people want to adopt a dog but stop at “He’s not healthy. He’s not trained. He’s not purebred. He’s not a puppy,” and all those things reflect that you’re just not apt to have a puppy. If you can’t love a dog - any dog - unconditionally, but conditionally based on the state of their health or physical aesthetics, then don’t have one at all. Romeo is a testimony of love and that with care and consistency, miracles can happen. Please don’t refrain from adopting and giving a puppy a chance just because he’s not 100% healthy or a purebred or a newborn or the many other excuses people make.
