Happy Pride month 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈 Transformation Tuesday ✨ These pictures were taken almost exactly 8 years apart. On the left: i was attending a birthday party in 2015. I was lost trying desperately to find my place in the world. It was about two weeks after this photo was taken that I realised I was transgender. I watched a video by @skeletyturner of his one year on testosterone and it blow my little mind. For the first time in my life I had the answers to so many questions I was battling with daily. I could finally see and truly listen to the feelings I had been repressing for so many years and didn’t understand. The signs that were always there, hidden and lost as I so desperately tried to conform to society expectations. On the right: Fast forward eight years later On Friday last week I was attending my finial art psychotherapy exhibition for my masters degree. I have been on testosterone for 2 and 3 months. I am 7 months post top surgery. I couldn’t feel more comfortable and authentic in myself. I have a profound sense of understanding and joy for myself that I didn’t have before my transition. Realising who I really was and having the strength to confront my fear of coming out for me has been one of the hardest parts of the journey. I started a new life in Cardiff that was one of the best things I have done that led me to where I am today. The person that I am and becoming is someone I am so proud of. Trust yourself ✨ As I step into this new chapter of my life as an art psychotherapist I will never take for granted the journey and how far I have come. Yes, I hit the #TransDayofVisibility pretty hard today. They need the support more than ever. It’s on cis people to stand up for them. When we speak out and show support, more people who are quiet see it’s okay to be vocal. We cannot let their hate be louder than our love. We cannot let the radical beliefs of a dying minority breed hurt our people any longer. I may have named my page @women_make_the_world_go_round (because abortion, default parenting, pay inequality, gender violence, etc are more prevailing in traditional female roles and they’re very dear to my heart), but I am down and will throw down for all genders and non-binary folks. I love this new Gen Z. I love how they question our brainwashed and biased ways. I look at them, and I cry ugly HAPPY tears. One day these cis white dinosaur politicians will have to be replaced, and these vocal, brilliant, justice-seeking, all-loving kids will be who steps up. As a Gen Xer who is continuously embarrassed by my implicit bias and trying to unlearn it, I will gladly let this generation lead the charge. We’re learning, but they ALREADY ARE. (Millennials, oh you’re already here, but you, you’re the best of both of us baby, and are always welcome.) So, you may not personally know a trans person, but if you’re a human who loves all humans equally, respect choice, bodily autonomy, equity, etc, I plead that you share at least one post today about supporting our trans siblings.
