CATHAY PACIFIC Received this beautiful scale model of Cathay Pacific’s Airbus A350–1000 today and it brings me back to our wonderful trip to Hong Kong with the T+L Travel Advisory Board last March. Thank you, Cathay Pacific. One of the experiences we had in Hong Kong was lunch at Cathay Pacific headquarters, and a tour of their training facilities which is all hush-hush and proprietary, so I can only share a few photos that we were allowed to take inside. One such photo is the emergency escape chute, something that I’ve always been curious about and obviously hope to never actually experience in my lifetime. We had a lot of fun with the simulated environments as well. I flew on this Airbus A350 to Hong Kong and back to JFK and I can say that it is one of the most comfortable business class lie flat seats. The food and service were outstanding as well. The business class lounge of Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong airport is outstanding in every way and there there is a dinner that is catered by Rosewood Hong Kong. NAN BEI Restaurant. @rosewoodbangkok I can say I’m starting my trip in Asia with a proper Chinese dinner by Chef Matthew who is from Beijing and will be ending it in Beijing. Nan Bei means South and North respectively and let me tell you that this was by far the best Peking Duck I’ve ever had in my life. Skin so crispy and best when dipped in white sugar! Saint-Pierre, MARTINIQUE 🇲🇶 Port of Call on Explora I Volcanic with black sand beaches but also very lush and tropical 🌴, I was surprised and happy with our short time in Saint-Pierre, Martinique. It really does make a huge difference when you’re the only ship 🚢 at port. We used the ship’s tender for the first time and I always enjoy this kind of landing. What did I like about Saint-Pierre? It was very local, not too many shops selling tchotchkes but if they were it was quite chic and well displayed and merchandised because of the French influence. I found local rum and ceramics and stopped by a bar for a pina colada in a setting that Wes Anderson would have approved of. The Creole culture X South of France 🇫🇷 vibe best describes Martinique. Saint-Pierre’s painted buildings were deshabille, unlike the brightly painted facades of Curaçao, but they were authentic and not created for effect. As I said, more chic. Jaipur City Tour A first time visit to the Pink City wouldn’t be complete without a photo opp in front of the Hawa Mahal made of red and pink sandstone. Afterwards a special visit to a private collection for antique textiles and this was heaven to me. Next stop was a family style lunch at @loharuhouse where we all had seconds and even third servings of the delicious home cooking! It was also great to visit a family home and have a relaxing meal and conversation. Jain Temples in Ranakpur The temple, with its distinctive domes, shikhara, turrets and cupolas rises majestically from the slope of a hill. The 1444 marble pillars, carved in exquisite detail, support the temple. The pillars are individually carved and no two pillars are the same. Legend says that it is impossible to count the pillars. Located in the countryside outside of Udaipur and worth a visit. A birthday afternoon tea and some kite flying in Old Delhi at @havelidharampura A Haveli in India is the equivalent of a Riad in Morocco and I know this kind of accommodation is perfect for certain clients. The family has done an incredible job of restoring this century old haveli and reviving the surrounding area. Mom had given me a share of her proceeds from the sale of our family’s sugar farm in the Philippines. I wanted to spend it on fine art that would celebrate and immortalize her. Her painting is a prominent feature in my home and one that I look at all the time. I knew then that I would want a portrait of my own but wasn’t sure then of what that would look like. This month I celebrate my 60th birthday. I’m in a good place health wise, married to a loving and supporting husband, surrounded by loyal family and friends, and working in an industry that I love. So I said to myself, “why not, let’s capture this moment in time.” I gifted myself an oil portrait. Paul and I started the conversation in March, over lunch and continued over WhatsApp. We went through different iterations: standing vs sitting, mariner shirt vs kaftan, shorter hair, less gray.
