I finally broke open what is probably the last FQ bundle of @sweetwater fabrics Feedsack, which is probably my favorite fabric line to date. I made a smaller lap-sized Trip Around The World quilt with some Feedsack fabric and love it so much that I finally decided to make a bed sized quilt. 30 16” blocks fit the bill, and the bed! I needed a jelly roll of Vintage by Sweetwater as well, and used the coordinating strips to add. I’d ordered a bundle of Friday Harbor by Janet Nesbitt of One Sister Designs to make a Patriotic Quilt due to July 4th being around the corner. My plan was another quilt to donate, but my husband has claimed this one. It’s my birthday! In this day of celebrating myself, I thought I’d finally share a photo of a quilt that I made in December 😅🎉 This Christmas quilt was made exclusively using fabrics from @heatherrossinsta’s Sugarplum line. I’d amassed fat quarters over the years until I had the full line, including the main fabric where I got 5 yards for $20 online 😳 I followed @woodberry_way‘s #WWScrappyTrip tutorial and know that I’ll keep going back to the Scrappy Trip Around The World pattern! I got this longarmed and splurged on mallard green minky fabric for the backing- I’ll share more photos soon 💚❤️ Moral of the story- celebrate yourself by ‘using the good fabrics’! I’ve got plenty more hoarded Heather Ross fabric where that comes from 😉

Wo und wie einen die #inspiration so überall einholen kann... 😊 Eigentlich wollte mich heute schon inspirieren lassen - nämlich für den Gemüsegarten und das Ganze auch total absichtlich auf der @diegartentulln. In der dortigen #gartenvinothek haben wir das @weingutkoch kennengelernt und (leider nur) zwei der Weine aus dem vielfältigen Sortiment verkostet. Ich, weil ich nicht so abenteuerlustig bin, einen ausgezeichneten, frischen und blumig-grünen #sauvignonblanc und mein Schatz, der viel mutiger ist, einen #malvasier, "orange" ausgebaut, was geschmacklich komplex und auf den ersten Schluck (farblich 🤣) nicht eindeutig einordenbar ist. 😊 Zwei sehr unterschiedliche, facettenreiche Weine, ein sonniger Nachmittag in ansprechender und anregender Umgebung und dann auch noch diese Etiketten auf den Weinflaschen! This quilt has quite a story. It began as a group effort in a quilting bee in 2021 where 8 other kind ladies sewed blocks. I added more blocks and stitched it up into a top in 2022, then it sat for some time. Finally this winter, I decided to finish it and raffle it off to help raise money for my friends the McDowells who are fighting brain cancer with their daughter Lana. Fifty eight lovely individuals donated $2230 to the family. When I selected a winner, she asked that I give the quilt to Lana. Sweet Lana Mae already has one of my quilts and suggested that it be given to a classmate of hers who is also fighting cancer. Even though this means I probably need to make a few hundred more nine patches and then will have enough nine patches for two more queen size quilts I think this will be my layout love the idea of the cheddar in the center will give the quilt a fun brightness, I will probably switch the blue and brown rows as I have lots more brown blocks already made! A trip around the world setting is one I haven’t done yet using nine patches. All the 5 light 4 dark blocks will be made into a quilt sometime in the way you see it now love the linear lines of colors it has I definitely will play with that once I get to it. My messy work station 😍 I’ve spent the long weekend obsessing over these blocks between family time and reading time. Hand-piecing hack: before I commence, I layout my block with the right side of the fabric facing down/away from me, so I can see the drawn stitching lines as I am working. I find it easier to get the block/template placement correct, especially when working with more complex blocks than this current project. It’s amazing how easy it can be to stitch along the wrong seam line or get the fabric placement mucked up 😬 laying things out upside down seems to help avoid unnecessary unpicking! #triparoundtheworldquilt #minitrip #quiltersofinstagram #patchwork #handpiecing #makersmovement #handmade

Lately I’ve been enjoying working on smaller projects. There’s a quilt in Edyta Sitar’s Handfuls of Scraps book called “Love at First Sight” (shown in the second pic) that I’m attempting to make a mini of. My baskets are 4 1/4” unfinished, aren’t they sweet? They are also from a LBQ pattern called Elodie. Also, I’ve been wanting to make the mini Trip Around the World for a long while now and I finally got around to it. I love the rich rusty batiks on this one! Lorna Ball made this Trip Around the World quilt... like over 10 years ago. Eventhough she has used it over the years as a table cloth or backdrop, it was still in perfect condition and finally time to get it quilted up! The panto we used is ironically called Batik! Day 18 Favorite Color - Aqua! I'm an 80s baby, 90s kid, Elder Millennial who loves aqua, cerulean, mint, teal, plus all the neons. My birthstone is aquamarine, maybe it started there?
