It is such a dreary day, but somehow we needed the rain again. We called for a fire this weekend and there were no fires allowed throughout the state. Apparently all the rain we got this winter can be undone by a short stretch of no rain. Even though today is raw and rainy, we’ve had some great weather and the daffodils and forsythia are bright rays of sunshine against the gray background. Ive been clipping the blooms to bring inside to bring some of that cheer indoors. I’ve been so uninspired to post lately. It’s been a hard year and the first week in May is especially difficult. It is the anniversary of both my sister (May 4) and my niece’s (May 1) passing, and my mother’s birthday (May 6). We are still mourning the loss of our Harley as well, and it seems we can’t go anywhere without either Brian or I saying, “Harley would have loved this!” I’m so looking forward to retiring in June. I’ve been so weary these days and find it hard to accomplish much when I get home from work. Last week though, it was spring break and I worked almost every day in the yard, and that gave me so much energy and life. What I already have, I have so much decor I need to really scale down. This one anybody can do I used a garden urn, some of my smaller wreaths, and added a pumpkin on top. Hello and Happy Tuesday Everyone! The addiction has started. Why is buying plants so satisfying. Just when we said that we were done planting, we find a few more…one of which was a eucalyptus tree. We had one growing in our yard for years and then it got blown over in a storm so I wanted to replace it. I asked the garden center lady which eucalyptus tree grew best in our state. She responded with, “Um they’re from Australia…” in a ‘you should know this’ tone of voice. I then realized I was wearing a straw hat that donned a kangaroo logo on the band…😳 I wanted to say, “Listen lady, I just picked this hat up from the AgriSpupply store about an hour ago and I know where they’re from”…but instead I pulled out my best Australian accent and said, “You’ve got a good point mate!” I’m kidding , there was no accent involved. Anyhow, I grabbed my tree and left.🪴Today will be filled with grandkids and grand pups as our nutty month of May is starting a bit early but all for good reasons. Every dress was too long, too broad shouldered, and the overall measurements never looked proportionate on my body in comparison to the models. I felt so sad being left out of the fashion industry. Thus, most of my daily outfits consisted of leggings under an oversized sweater. Then I saw this dress. After following this small family business of women for months, I finally bought my first dress since I got married 7 years ago! Prague Viburnum reminded me of the soft, white clouds in the sky and this soft, light, airy, tulle dress! I just wanted to share the beauty of these spring flowers with you! This look was two bags of pinecones and mushrooms that I picked up at the target dollar spot. 🤎 I didn’t know exactly what I was going to do with them, so I just sat down and see where it all led me! The single late tulips, also known as May tulips or French singles, are all in full bloom now. (Several days early just like the whole season, which also seems to be running early this year). The arrival of my three favorite French singles, Dordgone’, ‘Menton’ and ‘Camargue’ - all named for towns in France- swing the color palette in the tulips beds towards sherbet shades of pink, apricot, and yellow. In a few days, the background color in ‘Camargue’ tulips (the ones with two tone splashes in Picture Three) will turn from yellow to white, completing the flower’s transformation into a white flower with pink splashes. Hello and Happy Monday Everyone! How was your weekend? I had a good one! The majority of it was spent outside working in our yard which I LOVED! The weather was perfect…not too hot, not too cold. We planted and pruned, treated myself to some beautiful homegrown peonies and even got our garden in. I also did a lot of dreaming…I have so many plans of what I want our home and yard to be. Most of which would require me to win the lottery but hey, a girl can dream.😜 One of my longtime dreams is to build a big greenhouse out of old windows. This has been in the works long before “shesheds” were a thing. I’ve collected windows, vents, a sink, the door, potting tables, etc…all in preparation for it however, my husband and I are definitely putting the cart (or carts) before the horse. We’ve built the courtyard garden behind it and even a path that leads to it…only “it” doesn’t exist yet. 🧐 I think it’s a lot like our built in bookshelves project that we did. I have the whole thing planned out in my head with zero doubts that we can do it and my husband is nervous about pulling the trigger but I know once we do, he’ll wonder why we took so long. Good things come to those who wait as the old saying goes…at this rate, I’m going to have to build a ramp to get a wheelchair to it.😜 Here’s to a giant dose of patience! Lake Season Has Begun! ☀️💙🌷 Each each new indication that the Summer cottage season is beginning again, makes me practically giddy with happiness. However, the lake season doesn't truly begin for me until two critical tasks are done. I only feel settled once the outdoor furniture is set up, and most importantly, when my spring flower planters are all filled! The past week required several trips to garden centers, as I planted, pondered, planned, and returned for more, until I was satisfied. I have a decades-old, favorite "recipe", for my early Spring planters. It has always begun with a combination of pink Tulips, yellow Daffodils, and purple Hyacinths. This year I mixed in some orange Pansies, white Candytuft, and pink Armeria.
