Although owned by GM in this period and the 9-5 being based on the same platform as a Saturn, the 9-5, especially in Aero form was praised for its taut chassis, deft handling, and communicative steering. In Aero trim the 9-5 was powered by a true Saab engine, an evolution of an earlier Saab design, not related to any other GM products. Excellent way to spend my bday: Taking the 2024 Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 for a rip. I love the luxury sport compact class, and this thing is such a looker post-refresh. I thought it looked great pre-refresh, too, but welcome nonetheless. I particularly dig the wheels - perhaps one of the best OEM five-spokes, ever. I love how they accentuate the brake calipers. Plus: MB does pillar-less doors so well. The M260 continues to be an entertaining two-liter turbo, even if it isn't the wilder hand-built M139 in the 45 cars (I'm pretty sure I've got my engine codes right, there's a shit-load of 'em!). Thing's a lot of fun, handles very good overall, and AMG even cleaned up the DCT's shifting; it used to be pretty aggressive/a little clunky, now it's smooth as butter. In addition to an exterior redesign that brings it in line with the larger #SClass and smaller #CClass, the new Benz packs a tech-heavy cabin. Base models will have two screens (one for instrument panel and one for infotainment in the dash) while a new “Superscreen” will be available that will add a third screen in the dash for the front passenger. That third screen will display streaming content and blocks it if it sees the driver’s eyes looking over at it. There’s also a selfie and video camera aimed at the front passenger and #Zoom calls are possible. The central display also comes loaded with a variety of third-party apps (think #TikTok). Under the hood will be one of two #hybrid powertrains, each with a 48-volt system, standard #AWD, and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
