Do you guys like to do the wear sleeve seal or a standard seal when replacing the front main seal? Shout out to @screamingchickentx for the headlight switch pieces, @american.autowire I finally finished the wiring may not look good on picture but trust me it's way better then factory, I was able to retain all factory switches and turnsignal lever, still have back up lights with the b&m shifter. If you are stuffing a 12 valve in a common rail truck and want the tachometer to work you need the tone ring off of the harmonic balancer. You can't just throw a common rail balancer on a 12 valve as there is interference issues with the timing cover. So you take a common rail tone ring and mount it to the front of a 12valve balancer. I sold the fancy KingPin D60 today. As much as I'd love to keep cool stuff like this the reality is I am not going to be able to build my humvee project for quite some time. I have to get the audi running, the turdgen running, the first gen running and the GT40 built. Selling this will help cover some of the cost of running new wire to my new shop. Long story short my power issues at the new shop are because the previous owners ran aluminum wire in a round about way to the shop. Over 500 feet in length with multiple junction boxes. Aluminum wire has a massive voltage drop after 250 feet and every junction box is added resistance. The most effective way to remedy this is to run. Heavy gauge copper wire directly to the shop (400') that much wire and conduit is not cheap. So some of the "toy stuff" has to be sacrificed in order to pay for what is important. In other news the axles new owner @yamahacraze69 is building a bad ass 98 12valve rig equipped with #thurenfabrication suspension. Another turdgen update Going away from the the commonrail to a 12 valve there are a bunch of things that need to be modded to work. The way Im addressing the cooling system is to go with a ford 6.0 trans cooler, ford 6.0 radiator, 1975 ford mustang 2 upper radiator hose elbow and inline radiator filler (as the radiator does not have one). The radiator has inlet and outlet in the right spots and is the same size as the dodge one. It has a built in liquid to liquid trans cooler, that coupled with the large air to liquid cooler should keep trans temps in check. A little update on the turdgen. Long story short (i know many already know it). The truck has issues staying running. Ive spent thousands of dollars at House of power in Bend and at the dealership in Bend replacing modules and wiring to no avail. This a 2004 truck with over 250k miles its got a bluebook value of like $1200. That being said, i miss my heated seats, I miss having 4 independent doors and miss the smooth ride from the thuren suspension. So with all that being said I am 12 valve swapping the truck. I do have an Anteater stand alone trans controler for the 48re but with 250k miles on the original trans im quite tempted to throw the freshly rebuilt A518 trans in with the fresh Gorend non lock torque converter. I know the 48re is a stronger more efficient unit, but it also has a ton of miles on it as well as still being electronically controlled. Waited 20 years to be able to say this. Three months to the day today, I bought my (well one of) my dream Trans Ams. 1983 Recaro Trans Am w/83k miles. One family owned vehicle it’s entire life and well taken care of. Optioned with the HO L69 engine/5 Speed Trans backed up with 3.73 gears. Within the last three months, I’ve spent some time cleaning, repairing minor issues, and fixing some of the major ones. Then spiraling and buying things I didn’t need. So far for upgrades, Pro 5.0 Shifter, Founders Rear LCAs, Adjustable Panhard, VogtLand 1.25 drop springs with new shocks. Plans are to keep this mostly stock as a nice driver. For the couple people wondering WTH I'm doing working on the #turdgen and wondering what I'm doing with another #np205. I'm taking the engine out of the first gen, putting together the transmission and sticking this driver drop np205 behind that. I need to modify the 3rd gen drivelines as well. For the folks who dont understand why. It's because I'm tired of the truck not being even slightly reliable. I'm sure your cousins wifes uncles 3rd gen makes 1000+ hp with just a tune but mine dosent. I need this big turd to be able to drive to town without breaking down. Yes it's had new injectors and pump and all new modules. Yes I'm keeping the common rail to p-pump and put in something else. If the 12valve stops running I'll change the fuel shut off soloiod on the side of the road like I've done multiple times. The A518 trans is hydraulically shifted 1-3 and 4th is controlled via a potentiometer. The NP205 case is cast steel, manually shifted and gear driven unlike the garbage NV271 chain drive, aluminum split case. No the truck is not going to be a power monster but it will actually be reliable. As for the first gen @alwaysfaded707 (RIP) told me years ago that I was wasting my time keeping that floppy first gen frame. And after all the work me and @sixspeedseb put into that truck I totally agree with both of them. @sixspeedseb referred to the frame as the "floppy nooodle" lol. The first gen is cool as hell but it handles like a bag of dicks even after countless steering upgrades. The combination of 37" tires, changed pinion angle (welded taller front shackles from the PO in the 90s), crossover steering and bronze kingpin bushings all make for a lot of stress on the frame. We have cracked the frame a couple times. The first gen will get either a second or third gen frame, P-pumped 12valve and either a 47rh or 6 speed manual. It will also be getting a custom built flatbed and a new paint job. As much as I like those old trucks the suspension and steering is garbage. Funny story. I’m always looking for cars and projects. ( currently at 28 and counting 😂) But my buddy asked me to look for a 3rd Gen for his son who is turning 16 soon. We looked and I found one where the owner had just completely rebuilt a 350 with AFR heads and some supporting mods etc. he was selling it as a with what he described as a seized and engine. We get there to look at it and after talking to owner decide that there is a possibility that it’s not seized engine but possibly something else. All the while he is talking about how bad the machine shop screwed him etc. We take a gamble, throw it on my trailer and head home. We start pulling plugs and belt to see if we can manually spin engine over. Turns out alternator is completely locked up…. That’s it. Engine runs perfectly. A car was sold with a brand new engine and some decent mods because basic diagnostic skills were looked over.
