Day 37. Leaving… Today was a hard day, on the schedule was leaving Angola to Namibia. I had to cross the desert to Lubango including the Sere da Leba pass. Met up for a few minutes with a friend and then had to drive to Xangongo. From there 100 km offroad to the border. Everything went well so far, I was good in time but than 25 km before the border my suspension air ballon collapsed plus at the back axle the right wheel is at a weird postion, the wheel is almost blocking. I have to check this as well🫢. So I had to drive in the night the last 25 km to reach the border. That was rough🫣 Tag 37. Abreise... Heute war ein harter Tag, auf dem Plan stand die Ausreise aus Angola nach Namibia. Ich musste die Wüste nach Lubango durchqueren, einschließlich des Sere da Leba Passes. Habe mich für ein paar Minuten mit einem Freund getroffen und musste dann nach Xangongo fahren. Von dort 100 km Offroad bis zur Grenze. Alles lief soweit gut, ich war gut in der Zeit, aber 25 km vor der Grenze brach mein Luftfahrwerk zusammen und an der Hinterachse ist das rechte Rad in einer komischen Position, das Rad blockiert fast. Das muss ich auch noch überprüfen🫢. Also musste ich die letzten 25 km bis zur Grenze in der Nacht fahren. Day 36. Sunrise☀️ + last day a the lodge🦩 Early in the morning we went to the beach to look for some illegal fishing next to the lodge. We found a lot of fisherman🙁. For me it was the first time to see the sun rising up, very magical especially in combination with the lighthouse 😎. Tomorrow in the early morning I will leave the lodge to leave to Namibia🇳🇦 Tag 36. Day 34. Sitting on the new sofa🤩🛋️ Sunday = relaxing time so today I did not much. We put the new cushion‘s on the bench and looks amazing. Very cozy and comfortable. For those that don’t know… my “other love” in life is my Van … and my Vanlife Sisterhood The Vanginas” @thevanginas (yes…there is an “n” in there boys n girls!!🤣🚐🤣) Being able to escape in my Van on my own little getaways, day trips, Art trips … or fellow sisterhood gatherings gives my heart and soul pure light and joy! And nothing beats that feeling than also connecting with all you other Vanlife adventurists and enthusiasts out there. I’ve met so many incredible souls (guys n gals) either living their best life in their vans, or simply exploring this great land of ours or enjoying mini getaways and day outings. Some of the fitouts I have seen are purely clever and amazing!! I’ve been asked more again recently if I can work on some external van designs for others … including this great lil beauty about to be given the full internal fitout magic! This husband and wife team are dear friends of mine and great supporters of our Sisterhood. In time I will enjoy sharing more about who they are and their build. Hubby is a builder and what I already know about their van build plans excites me! Cant wait to see this incredible beast shine in all its glory…inside and out!! Day 33. Driving offroad to town with the toyota We drove offroad to town with the big landcruiser from the lodge. I have cleared the track a bit of stones. We drove directly to the taylor to pick up the cushion‘s for the big sofa🛋️ on the terrace. In a couple of days I have to leave Angola because my visa will expire😕 Tag 33. Things to consider when taking on a self build camper conversion - 🚐TIME - you will need PLENTY of it. ✌🏻Mistakes - you have to be prepared to make mistakes. Even after four conversions I still make the odd mistake, however in the beginning I was making a lot of them and they really did cost me a lot of time, and a lot of money. 🚐Costs - there are many costs when converting a van into a camper. You’ve got to make sure to consider the following- - Buying the van itself - Parts and materials and some, (because even when you think you’ve budgeted for everything, there will be miscellaneous extras you might need) -Tools, you might already have some of the basics but converting a camper you do require an array of tools which can be costly -Storage, if you can’t store and work on your vehicle at home, you may need to consider renting a unit to carry out your conversion -Professional help, you might need to factor in the costs of hiring someone in to take on areas of the build you might not feel comfortable with. For example, cutting and fitting windows or electrical work -Taxing and insuring your vehicle. Even whilst you are not driving your camper (if you are building it first) you will need to have the correct tax and insurance in place for your van ✌🏻Burnout - if you are trying to convert a van, have a life, go to work, and do all the other things life throws, you might end up in burnout. In my latest conversion, 3 weeks went by without me even opening its doors, because I was exhausted. Converting a van takes up so much of your time and energy, because even when you’re not working on it you are thinking of it If you are thinking this sounds too much for me, I just want to buy a van and be on my way, travelling and having the summer of my life, instead of having to convert a van first and likely wait until next year.
