Here's my working set up in the van! I've still got a fair few smaller jobs to do, but our 16 day road trip as far as Switzerland was a brilliant tester, and I'm really happy with the layout and everything else we've done so far! I spent 3 days working and driving my way through France to pick up @joshbratchley from Lyon. I was a bit worried about being able to find spots that had both good signal and were nice but had good luck. This was a fantastic spot by a really tranquil huge lake, great signal, and only some cyclists and bird watchers about. Having 2 phones and different SIM cards with me (due to switching phones) was really handy, as it turns out different UK networks have agreements with different EU networks, and the signal I got on each varied quite a lot. Oh and one of my must-haves is that fluffy rug for my feet - van floors are cold and that helps so much! I couldn't get the temperature in my garage for the epoxy so I finished the door (only thing left is to install it properly) and cleaned my leftover lashing rails so they are prepared to install. Therefore I used a metal brush to get off any leftovers. It’s been so nice to have a lazy day. We’ve moved inland by a whopping 14 miles (including a detour for shopping!) and it feels as though we’ve gone back in time to an altogether more rural Italy. Longiano wasn’t in our guidebook or even our radar but a review on #park4night recommended exploring the town when using the free camper area - so we did. The rain stopped and we enjoyed views across the countryside from the town’s castle. That’s when we decided we’d have lunch and then take a walk through the orchards (cherries, peaches, olives and peas) to the next hilltop village. It was warm enough to walk in t-shirts too. Beers were cooling in the fridge and we fancied one when we got back to the van, so that was it - decision made - we’d have a beer and stay for the night 🍻. Da wir schon mal in der Nähe sind, fahren wir ein Stück auf der „Ruta de los Dinosaurios“. Entlang der Strecke gibt es immer wieder Dinosaurier-Fußabdrücke in Felsen zu bewundern, es gibt ein kleines Info-Center und die Spanier haben tatsächlich auch einen lebensgroßen Sauropoden in die Landschaft gestellt, einfach so irgendwo hinterm Feld 🤷♂️ 🦕👍 Keine Ahnung, ob das sonst niemanden interessiert oder einfach noch keine Saison ist, auf jeden Fall sind wir auf der ganzen auch landschaftlich tollen Route ziemlich allein unterwegs. Tagestour nach Hattingen - da guckst du 🤪😄 Heute haben wir einen WoMo-Stellplatz direkt an der Ruhr abgecheckt. Leider komplett überfüllt und auch recht teuer. Stattdessen sind wir kurz davor auf einen kostenlosen Parkplatz, dann in die Altstadt von Hattingen und ein wenig durch die Gegend geschlendert. Das Wetter hat prima mitgespielt - viel Sonnenschein. Fazit: Hattingen ist mal ganz ok für einen Besuch. Vielleicht wäre es noch schöner, direkt an der Ruhr zu campen. Vielleicht beim nächsten Mal. Swipe 🐈 Wie schnell kommt von einem Vandog zu einer Vancat? ♥️🥹 Was wäre gewesen, wenn ich nicht zu diesem Müllplatz gegangen wäre? Wenn ich nicht geschaut hätte, wo dieses jämmerliche Rufen her kommt, was ich nicht mal zuordnen konnte. Da lag dieses kleine Wesen nun unter trockenen Ästen und Müll. Ein Winzling der nicht mal meine Hand ausgefüllt hat, mit struppigem Fell und verkrusteten Näschen. Ich hab mir den Kopf zerbrochen, ob ich sie mit nach Deutschland nehme, mich um sie kümmere und sie dann dort weiter vermittle. Aber ich hab wirklich so schlimme Katzenhaar-Allergie, dass es nicht lange gut gegangen wäre. 😞 Allein von den mini Krallen, hat meine Hand schon fürchterlich gejuckt. Ich hab dann nach einiger Rennerei eine Anwohnerin hier im Ort gefunden, die sich auskannte und die kleine Maus zu sich genommen hat. Ich war zudem gestern Abend und heute noch ein paar mal dort, um nachzusehen, ob nicht evtl. noch mehr Geschwisterchen dort sind, aber ich habe keine mehr gefunden. Ach, mach’s gut, du Winzling♥️♥️ Werde jetzt aber immer nachfragen, wenn ich hier bin, wie es der Kleinen geht.
Continuing our island adventures in the mountains ⛰️ We spent so much of last year, and the start of 2024 living on the coast. Since leaving Fuerteventura and Lanzarote we’ve been able to experience a more vibrant landscape with crisp mountain air and the sounds of life from bugs, birds and lizards rushing about as you move through the trails. We forever appreciate how our tiny home on wheels allows us to travel and experience these alternative landscapes 🐛 🌲 🚐
This weekend was the maiden voyage of the new, and mostly finished, tiny home on wheels. The one thing I don't have in there yet is a diesel heater, and boy did I wish I had! Friday night was FREEZING and I ended up sleeping fully clothed with a woolly hat on, then spending most of Saturday looking for extra blankets in charity shops and investing in a hot water bottle (which my Mums friend Marina kindly bought me as a birthday present - thanks Marina!). I know what I'm buying on payday, I can tell you! Bring on the heat! The new campervan, even without a heater, performed brilliantly, the oven is a dream come true and the fridge is a revelation (if a noisy one!). It's spacious, bright and uncluttered....spending real time in my new home on a campsite surrounded by nature was the sigh of relief and release that I needed. It was a wonderful weekend of being spoilt by my lovely Mum, taking in the expansive views of the mountains, spending time in bluebell carpeted woodlands and looking out across the fathomless depths of lake Windermere. The next few days are the perfect time to visit bluebell woods (pics to follow!). Go and visit your nearest ones tomorrow....the calming blue purple hue of the flowers in their forest home, the scent of them filling the air, the grounding energy of the deep rooted trees. Salamanca, we ducked and dived between the rain showers around the elegant streets of the old town. We met a lovely South African couple who were looking for a spaceman and a dragon with an ice-cream 😊 – etched in the cathedral plaster work…of course we joined them on the quest! And found it sometime later! Fun! Away from the tomfoolery 😊 we loved Casa de las Conchas, adorned with more than 300 scallop shell etchings - was originally a private dwelling now a public library and highly recommend a visit, it’s beautiful. The Universidad de Salamanca, one of Europe’s oldest universities is here amongst the cobblestone streets. Students would write their names in bulls blood on the walls 🙈 The city is easily walkable. An the Plaza Mayor is a must see. In the 16th century, tobacco was introduced to Spain from the New World, primarily from the Caribbean and South America. Nicht nur einmal, sondern viele Nächte. Mit dem Van ging es kilometerweit durch Lappland bis runter nach Stockholm, wobei die wildernessroad wirklich ein Juwel an Natur war. Nach einem der tollsten Geburtstage in Schwedens Hauptstadt entdeckten wir Gotland, Öland und natürlich zu guter letzt auch den schönen Süden Schwedens. 🇺🇸 Once across the whole of Sweden with the camper. Starting with the beautiful Abisko National Park in the very north of the country in autumn in all the colors you could wish for 🍂 There we had one of the most beautiful moments, because we saw the northern lights. Not just once, but many nights. The van drove for miles through Lapland all the way down to Stockholm, and the wilderness road really was a jewel of nature. We've just crossed the border from Italy, and just a few miles in, we've found an amazing campsite called Kamp Koren. Right on the edge of the Soča River, it's a brilliant place to explore the surrounding hikes, including the beautiful Kozjak Waterfall. The site is just a short walk from Kobarid, across the stunning Napoleon's Bridge. The colour of the Soča River is a blue I've never seen. Meet the dog gang! When visiting France we got the opportunity to stay a while at a lovely farm and their private disc golf course. Thank you so much for your incredible hospitality and kindnesa, Pierill & Co. ❤️ Elfi found a good friend in farm dog Bandy, the bandit! And while staying here we felt at such peace and helped out a bit on the farm, as well as shares food and wine together. This might just be one of the most impactful expieriences for us, learning about this place and French culture. We were blessed with nice weather, and while Mathias joined a couple of tournaments, Ida walked a lot with Elfi in the forests, photographed and did her art stuff. 30.09.23 - Sanremo [film edit] After the few days I spent living at garage near Alessandria, my starter motor was fixed but the issues identified on my CV joint were weighing heavily on my mind… On my way down to the Italian Riviera I stopped at a few garages to see if they would help with no luck, I decided I wanted to stay put in an idyllic location until I could get the repair. So I booked an appointment at Ford in Nice four days away. I chose to spend my long weekend in Sanremo. Although this was a stop out of necessity, the days I spent here were arguably my favourite of the trip. I parked in the same spot by the beach living slow, waking up and going to sleep to the sound of the ocean. Day 32. Djing on a live stream🎧 It was my 2nd event where I did a live stream, to build up everything took my 3-4 hours because it is at the moment very hot here. Cesenatico wasn’t our usual choice for a coastal visit but we were pleasantly surprised by the buzz in the old town last night. We couldn’t work out if it was a regular Friday night or a special occasion. Unfortunately no photos as we went along the long street that had been shut off - stalls of all kinds lit up along one side (delicious smelling fish being the main street food on offer) and seating along the other. It was reminiscent of visiting Venice in August, and much as we may have wanted to linger, Rudi hasn’t had much experience of such crowded places and seemed quite anxious. He did very well though, especially considering there were so many tasty morsels being dropped on his path 😋. On the road again... wir starten von Leipzig und fahren über Prag nach Bratislava, wo wir an der Donau nächtigen. Über Budapest geht es nach Belgrad, wo wir uns 2 Tage die Stadt anschauen und schon erstes T-shirt Wetter erleben. Durch Serbien fahren wir weiter gen Süden nach Bulgarien in die Rila Berge, wo neben wilder Natur auch ein psychedelisch anmutendes Kloster zu finden ist. Ein paar Kilometer weiter beginnt schon Griechenland und wir schlafen eine Nacht hinter der Grenze und eine Nacht am Meer, bevor es für uns schließlich nach 1 Woche und 2000km gemütlicher Fahrt, in die Türkei geht. Ab jetzt haben wir noch 3 Wochen Zeit, um in aller Ruhe die Mittelmeerküste runter nach Antalya zu fahren - diesen Teil der Türkei haben wir nämlich letztes Jahr auf dem Weg in den Kaukasus komplett ignoriert und sind nun gespannt, was uns hier erwartet! 🇬🇧 On the road again... we start from Leipzig and drive via Prague to Bratislava, where we spend the night on the Danube. We go via Budapest to Belgrade, where we spend 2 days looking around the city and already experience the first t-shirt weather. We drive further south through Serbia to Bulgaria in the Rila Mountains, where, in addition to wild nature, there is also a psychedelic-looking monastery. A few kilometers further on, Greece begins and we sleep one night across the border and one night by the sea before we finally head to Turkey after 1 week and 2000km of leisurely driving. Heute geht es an die Elektronik, sie ist zu schwer, zu alt, zu ineffizient. Was bleiben darf wird der 12v und der 220v Block sein. Da wird allerdings die Verteilung und Absicherung geändert, kürzere kabelwege und durch dickere Kabel weniger Spannungsverluste. We spent a day walking around and soaking in the atmosphere. 🇫🇷😍🤩 Founded during the Gallo-Roman period, the citadel derives its reputation from its 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) long double surrounding walls interspersed by 52 towers. The town has about 2,500 years of history and has been occupied in different ages by Romans, Visigoths, and Crusaders. The citadel was restored at the end of the 19th century by the theorist and architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. Notre résumé après 1 semaine de voyage 🧳 Ce que l’on retient de ce passage dans le Jura et dans le Doubs: 🧀 Le Comté, on l’aura découvert sous toutes ses formes, de la cave à la fruitière en passant par nos papilles. C’est pas bon pour le régime heureusement on en fait pas ! 🌊 Les cascades, on en a découvert une quinzaine, celles du hérisson, des Tufs ou encore la source de la Loue 🌲 Les sapins , toutes les couleurs différentes vue du drone ou encore de près, on est fan !! 👀 Les magnifiques belvédère qui donnent des vues à couper le souffle 🛶 Les lacs en veux-tu en voilà, Vouglans/ Bonlieu/ les 4 lacs.. ❄️ La neige qui nous suit depuis une semaine avec laquelle on se caille bien les miches mais on y croit, le soleil devrait bientôt pointer le bout de son nez Sinon on s’est bien adapté à notre nouvelle vie dans le van, on s’est rendu compte qu’on était capable d’être assise sur les toilettes tout en faisant la vaisselle et en surveillant la nourriture qui chauffe sur le feu c’est cool on pouvait pas faire ça dans notre appart avant 🙃 Maintenant direction l’Alsace pour découvrir de nouvelles choses 🤓 #vanlifeeurope #vanlife #vanaménagé #tourdeurope #vanconversion #vanlifeuropecommunity #vanlifeuropeifeexplorer
