Another month down and another month of wedding planning. This month has been a little different from the last 3. We have now booked all our suppliers so it’s been time to figure out the finer details. 1 holiday book. 2 car problems. 3 trips. So what has happened this month: - Paid next venue instalment - Created a list of stuff I want for the wedding which family can give as presents for Christmas and birthday - Created a list of eveything I needed to do and buy ( that I know of yet) and set due dates for all. - Bought our signage frames - Designed Save the dates - Designed reserve seats signs - Started practicing my calligraphy - Practiced printing Save the Dates - Got given a wedding countdown block! - Asked my best friend to be my maid of honour - Went bridesmaid dress shopping ( just to see what I like) - Decided on colour of bridesmaid dresses I want - Got our cake stand for the wedding courtesy or Jacks sister in law who has lent it to us. It doesn’t feel like I’ve got very far.. however looking at all this, I can see that we have been really productive and a lot of decisions have been made. When J&S decided to get married last year, I wanted to make them something special. J suggested I make the wedding cake stand, which made me sweat because it’s no easy feat to make a 14” ceramic plate leveled to hold the weight of a 3 tier cake. Besides, a traditional cakeplate seemed wrong for what was promising to be an epic Brooklyn queer wedding. The morning after J and I chatted, I woke up at 5am with one word in my head: Raccoons! What’s more New York than your favorite small-time bandits stealing your wedding cake? I had never sculpted animals before and I wanted camp realism. Thanks to my fam @artshackbrooklyn I got a lot of help along the way. Special 🙏🏽🙏🏽 to @atlas_assaf, @nessa.deanda, @dinidixon, @mashavints and @leocadiestudio for imparting all their expertise so generously. And to the two bandits who inspired all of this: @juleslavinia and @menemshashie, I love you. So here are my babies, spot-lit and caught red-handed in the act. The delish cake by @fromlucienyc was annihilated within minutes, leaving behind this apropos tableau of stunned raccoons. Also note the gorgeous crochet doiley by @atlas_assaf. I'm always amazed at how clean and contemporary this design feels, given the age. Details below: 1890s Glass Cake Stand w "Nova Scotia Starflower" Pattern | Footed | Made in Canada | Antique Victorian // $40 // Made in the province of Nova Scotia, Canada circa 1890s, by Trenton Glass Works, this piece has beautiful details. Features include the “Nova Scotia Starflower” pressed glass pattern which includes beautiful flowers across the plate, as well as a beaded pattern. This stand also has some nice practical features—the rim is slightly raised to keep your precious baked goods safely in place, it has a pedestal and the entire piece is nicely sturdy as well. In beautiful condition, the glass has the slight soft grey hue to it and also some tiny air bubbles in the glass which is a feature of early glassmaking. A must-have item for anyone with a passion for vintage Canadiana, vintage cake stands or EAPG. Dimensions: 9 inches in diameter x 4.5 inches tall Condition: Excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks. Note: In keeping with its age, there are some glass bubbles and imperfections in the glass typical of EAPG but the overall effect is lovely. Lazy Sunday and decided to polish my silver. Love how it shines against the dark black walls in the dining room. I know that for most people this is a nuisance but it doesn’t take a lot of work and it’s strangely therapeutic to be honest. #samovar purchased from antique estate and once owned by a Prime Minister. I searched for an antique samovar for years primarily looking for copper or brass but when I saw this beauty it caught my eye. I kept coming back to this piece in my search and that’s when I knew it was meant for me to have this beauty. I knew it was unique but didn’t realize until after the dealer disclosed the history and origin of this beauty how incredibly special it was. In my antique searches I look for history and a story and I like things to be passed on from original owners who cherished the pieces. I collect unique things but mostly I must LOVE everything I collect. I have not used this Samovar but it’s fully functional and very heavy. It sits proudly on my dining room hutch and is a unique showstopper. I pinch myself every time I enter my dining room.
