I met this kind and talented soul about 7 years ago at the @thursdayblissdc open mic night. He sang the house down, as I now know he ALWAYS does. It was such a huge joy to hear @jhermainedrakeford perform as Erzule in my favorite musical, @onceislandbway. I've seen a few productions of this show, and this one was hands down the best. They changed some orchestrations, had a new set and location design, and the harmonies, whew. My gawd. Little throwback to last week’s Press Night at @regentsparkoat where we got dressed up, had a boogie, and met the original Ti Moune and Daniel, Lorna Brown and Anthony Corriette! 🤩 This beautiful pair of humans played the same roles back in 1994, and it was such a surreal moment to chat with them about their experience on the show way back when, how their connection with the show has changed over time (and also how black truly don’t crack because seriously, 29 years ago?! 🤯) It was an amazing reminder of the enduring legacy of great musical theatre writing, and I’m beyond proud to be able to be another link in the chain and bring OOTI to a whole new generation! 🥰 ✨🏝️🙌🏾 #regentsparkopenairtheatre #WhyWeTellTheStory

Agwe 🌊 - Once On This Island Jr - Snellville Performing Arts 🎭 This is part 1/2 of my SPA OOTI JR journey. I took so long to post because I have so many amazing pictures and memories from this company and show. OOTI Jr was the best theater experience I've had in 2022. It's so funny to me how the only reason I auditioned for this show is because of the $50 coupon this company gifted us during SpongeBob The Musical tech week and this production was my last chance to use it. I auditioned for this show going for the role of Agwe, not expecting to get a call, and the role (which felt like a dream)! SPA sees the talent in people who might not get much recognition. They make them feel special and show the talent they have had hidden within them. During callbacks, everyone was so shocked and supportive when I sang with my low range but also my acting and belting at the end. I never feel confident with my singing voice but I did at that moment. Of course, it wasn't easy, at every rehearsal I put so much work into learning this character, practicing my solo, and listening to how the director wanted Agwe to be shown on performance day. Once I had that makeup and costume on (which looked amazing btw) I knew it was getting real. This would be my first time for everything theater wise and I was freaking out. Luckily I had these three beautiful Gods there to comfort me. I never could've done this without them. Opening Night wasn't my best but each performance kept getting better and I'm proud of my work. I will always remember this experience and how I started the show by telling the story🤪.
