A guerrilla fighter from the 18th Front braids another’s hair at a camp high in the rural mountains of the department of Antioquia. After five decades of war, the FARC officially ceased to exist as an armed group in Colombia. The guerrillas will soon make the transition to civilian life. The FARC’s 7,000 fighters will take on new professions such as farming, dentistry and journalism. One of the most important jobs will be that of creating their own media force to document the peace process from the perspective of the FARC, which is why in recent months several rebels have come together in rural northwestern Colombia to participate in a photography and photojournalism workshop.
Update: A former top commander of Colombia’s largest rebel group, vowed a return to war and issued a new call to arms on a video on August, 2019, almost three years after the rebels signed a peace deal to disarm.
