“Trained with Jan Maurits Quinkhard in Arnhem and after beginnings in Rotterdam, Tibout Regters arrived in Amsterdam at the age of twenty-two and remained there until his death. Draftsman and painter, he introduces us to the upper middle class of the city, producing individual or group portraits, in an official setting or in a family setting.
We are here with Jan Carel van der Muelen (?-1801), Protestant and jurist from a family of Antwerp origin established in Utrecht. His marriage in 1747 to Cornelia Constantia Ortt van Nijenrode gave him access to the position of "opperboekhouder" at the Wisselbank in Amsterdam, one of the first European deposit banks. » (Extract from the catalog of the sale)
