This Red Boat testifies to a conquering audacity which bases its success on a technique now very controlled Pierre Théron was born in 1918 in Nérac, at the Château du Pin, which belonged to his maternal grandparents. He immersed himself in the countryside, which he would always love, and at the age of five he began to draw. In 1925, he arrived with his family in Bordeaux, where his father was appointed port commander. There he discovered port life, essential in his work. Born in Bordeaux on November 9, 1816, Richard Lafite Faxon is the son of Richard Faxon, originally from Boston. He specializes in the genre of the Navy and trained in Bordeaux with Goethals then Durand-Brager in Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1850 and 1875 and participated in the Friends of the Arts of Bordeaux between 1857 and 1880. He obtained a silver medal in Nantes in 1861. “Is it possible to render in a more complete, more precise way what we see on our beautiful river? The 8th edition of “Bordeaux and South-West Paintings” therefore opens with a set of rare drawings and engravings offering views of Bordeaux and its emblematic monuments to the curiosity of enthusiasts. The naturalist school is highlighted through its leader, Louis-Augustin Auguin (1824-1904) with six unpublished paintings by the master. Louis-Augustin AUGUIN (1824-1904) The beach, Verdon, evening effect, October 25, 1894 Oil on canvas signed lower right. 60 x 73 cm. “With The beach, Verdon, evening effect, October 25, 1894, the old master descended from the dune onto the beach where he details, walking on the foreshore, the curved silhouette of a fisherman accompanied by his little daughter. This is one of the extremely rare animated seascapes by Auguin, usually a painter of solitude, air and space. The artist rediscovers the low horizon line of the Dutch landscape which favors the sky, of pearly clarity, crossed by ephemeral clouds which never cease to modify it. During the 1890s, Auguin's evolution matched that of the late 19th century; it takes into account the influence of symbolism which was then sweeping across Europe. The painter's attention has shifted. He appeals, not to harshness, as in Montalivet, but to discretion, to delicacy, especially since he has just lost his wife in 1893. If the artist prefers the brilliance of the days of Summer, the hesitation of October evenings is because dusk filters the overly decisive light and makes the tender colors of things shine through. P. Grunchec: Tout L’Œuvre Peint de Géricault – Paris 1991, n°54). We express our thanks to Philippe Grunchec who, after a detailed inspection, suggests it was Géricault who outlined the composition and painted the first four horses top left, the quality of whose paintwork is apparent from infrared examination. It is worth noting that the first five hindquarters top left are almost identical to those in the original Noailles version, whereas significant variations can be found in the two bottom rows: not one horse is shown front-on, the number of horses has been reduced from 24 to 21, the stance and coats are not the same – even if the overall effect remains identical. Upholstery not original; seat reupholstered a first time in the late 1970s and then in 2020; the original upholstery in yellow Teddy Bear velvet. JEAN ROYERE AT BORDEAUX on June 6 at 6 pm! What to say and think of this meridian, rediscovered and very probably unique, that Jean Royère specially designed for M. F. Malgat in 1956? Except that this definitive form, which is the prerogative of the Polar Bear, is here enriched with the insignia of rarity offered by this variation which was most certainly only produced in a single copy. Jean Royère was not content to take the plan of a Boule sofa to amputate one end of one of its armrests, he redesigned the piece of furniture as a whole so that this new project is in perfect adequacy with this new destination which he had moreover named sofa (followed by the name Malgat) on the execution copy in November 1956. Preciously and jealously guarded in the descendants of the original sponsor until today, never reproduced in period or modern publications; remained unknown even to the most initiated, only and richly documented in the Jean Royère Fund of the MAD, this meridian offers us to see an additional link in the corpus of the works of the leading decorator of the 1950s in France, a remarkable element in itself.
