Yesterday was my other half's birthday 🥳
Birthday's are always nice for celebrating the people we love. I appreciate the hell out of him, and I hope he knows it. It can be tough as an indie author to find balance.
We juggle so many little jobs that all pile up very quickly. The writing is the fun part. Interacting with readers is another fun part. The rest?? Not so much 😬 It eats away at the time we spend with our loved ones.
Even when he and I are in the same room, I'm not present half the time. Story arcs, upcoming deadlines, a million to-do lists... it's all there like an invisible wall that tends to shut me off from those around me quite a bit. But he is so patient.
Without him incessantly bullying me into it, I'd have probably never made the leap from reader to writer. Without his constant, unwavering support, I may never have been able to push through writing my debut and publishing it. Without him being such an amazing human, I wouldn't have the freedom I do to disappear inside my own head or to swan off to signing events in other countries. He is my biggest supporter, and I'll never have the capacity to let him know how much it means.
So here's to all the people behind the writers. All the partners, children, family, and friends. The ones who show patience when we aren't present and love when we are. The ones who celebrate when we win and build us back up when we're down. The ones who encourage us to keep on writing.
