👆SCROLL FOR CONTEST UPDATE👆 Ok, I know I've been a little quiet lately ... Yesterday was the final day of the @otheringandbelonging conference here in Oakland. Having finally figured out the app and the livestream (it was on youtube the whole time?!), I took full advantage of technology by watching the incredible morning panel with Naomi Klein at home in bed, and the afternoon panels on interfaith solidarity and anti-war action while strolling through the @oaklandmuseumca rooftop gardens. As much as I do appreciate sitting in the chair and focusing on taking notes, something about that auditorium gave me the worst drowsy spells 🤣🤣 so I reminded myself that taking a walk and surrounding myself with nature was also a way to process information. How is it Day 28 of 30 already? Tonight's poem is about that loudest and most annoying voice, the inner critic. It isn't the truth. It's just making mischief. Poke it in the figurative eye. Pic was brazenly taken in a coffee shop mirror, despite my inner critic telling me it was "too much" and "cringey". But she's not the boss of me! ___ Day 28 If anyone else spoke to us the way we spoke to ourselves we would punch their lights out. We would burst into tears and run crying from the room like a Real Housewife wronged at cocktail hour, wrap ourselves in condolences, blank that person in the cereal aisle of our local grocery shop. From: Going to cafes on Sunday afternoons. Stepping out in the balcony as soon as it started raining. Listening to music on a random empty metro station. Writing poems in diaries or any blank paper just to test out new stationary. Long walks late night to find peace. Calling friends for a small doubt and the call getting cut on its own hours later when the phones battery died. Trying out new hair styles which are not even a 1% of what they are in your head. Eating the extra cup cake in the fridge just cause you opened the door as a result of boredom. Annoying your pet cat. Turning the car into unknown turns just cause the houses in that lane look good. Cooking meals that only you on the entire planet think are amazing. Sitting with your parents and talking. Getting gifts. Playing with toys. Watching series. Having friends. Being happy. Smiling. Enjoying. Loving. Living. To: Imagining all this watching the Sunday sun reflect on the tree outside your bedroom window and then immediately going back to your phone and scrolling through some more social media apps. PS I’m still alive (kinda) to those who were concerned.
