Want to read an easy-to-read hisorical, medieval piece of literature about the works of the LORD? I can only reccomend you read the "fioretti" or "little flowers" of St. Francis of Assisi. They were ritten down by a contemporary of St. Francis and then translated into the modern language.
This specific german edition I found at the "eremo delle carceri" - the caves near Assisi where St. Francis and his Brothers used to seek a bit of peace and quite in oppose to the city of Assisi.
