Chapter 7 (and its WHOPPING 6 parts) has dropped on Tapas! I'll admit, this one wasn't one of my favorites to write, but absolutely necessary for the world-building aspect of it. As of today, I've finished writing the chapter summaries for TSWOF Vol. 2.... I'll start working on it when my new keyboard comes in so I don't ruin my wrists any more than they already are (should be within the next 2 weeks). In the meantime, feel free to go through Vol. 1 and let me know what you thought of it! Question: Who's your favorite character so far and why? ✨BOOK REVIEW @authorrhondamcknight did such a beautiful thing with this book 😍 This is the first time reading this author but it won’t be the last. I loved “Bitter and Sweet” for the relatable characters and the deep messages that still led to the happily ever after and resolution we all want! At the heart of this story is the complexity of family and the restoration of even the most dismal circumstances and relationships. If you’re like me, you’ll find yourself rooting for Tabitha, arguing for Sabrina and wanting to shake some sense into Maria. And then it will be someone else you want to hug the next minute. Highlights ⭐️I loved the spotlight on therapy ⭐️ The dual timelines added a layer of depth and intrigue to the story that kept me hooked ⭐️The sister dynamics felt so real to me This is a Christian fiction that doesn’t feel corny or unrealistic and is such a unique story that I was drawn in almost immediately. So good! #christianbookreview #christianbookstagram #sisterdynamics #fictionrecommendations

I still think it's wild how long it's taken me to get here. The wait, at least, has been well worth it. I'm proud of what I wrote, and I know that Vol. 1 is just the start of a long journey. Vol. 2 is already in the works, so be on the lookout for updates on that, too!!!! Thank you all for the support so far; you have no idea how much it means to me. 🎉 Little Free Library Week Continues 🎉 Every day is LFL week here at the Pine Shore Little Free Library! I can’t tell you how much I LOVE being a steward. I take so much pride in offering my community all types of books, but books that mention LFL’s are my favorite to share with you! I can’t thank the @readforeverpub team for always supporting my LFL! When I’ve asked for help, they have never hesitated and even when I don’t, they don’t forget this little library. They were so gracious to send two copies of Annie Rain’s newest book for me to share with you guys! This small town romance is a second chance love story about hope and healing, featuring a library in a garden where the community can stop by to take or leave a book. I really enjoyed Annie’s last book, and this book couldn’t be more perfect to share this week, so I hope to see you around soon 🤗 💭 Have you stopped by a Little Free Library this week? #lflweek #littlefreelibrary #foreverpublishing #booksaboutbooks #fictionrecommendations #lflsteward #readmorebooks #bookworm #allaboutbooks

TABLE FOR TWO by AMOR TOWLES Such a great collection. TOWLES is on full display as he effortlessly journeys through distinct characters and themes across six short stories set in New York City and a long novella in Los Angeles. My Favorites were “The Ballad of Timothy Touchett” which follows an aspiring writer that falsifies author signatures of rare first edition copies, and “The Bootlegger” in which an investment banker catches an audience member recording a performance at Carnegie Hall. The former explores ambition, greed, and naivety and the latter guilt, the consequences of choices, and the fragile yet resilient nature of human relationships. All stories are expertly crafted with elegant prose, keen observations, understated emotion, all leaving you with wanting MORE! Pick this up if you’re looking for something you can dip in and dip out, stories that are both big and small, that has evocative storytelling with good insights. Have you read AMOR TOWLES yet? What’s been your favorite?

Mai Nguyen manages to bring the world of family ran nail salons alive. Sunshine nails manages to be light hearted while exploring the greater impact of gentrification which has been a huge issue in Toronto for a while now! There is a particular kind of joy for a reader when they recognize the streets and landmarks and little details mentioned in a story. I loved getting to know Tran family and their journey. As someone’s who’s been a client at a Vietnamese ran nail salon for many years, a number of aspects of this story resonated and felt so familiar. Not to mention how often under-appreciated many immigrant dominated services are! I loved the thoughtfulness of exploration of these important topics but at the end of the day it was the sense of family and community that made this such a fun, enjoyable read! Mai Nguyen is a talented storyteller and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next! Sci-Friday | The Tusks of Extinction is a short fun novel about an elephant expert who is killed by poachers and whose brain is preserved in a computer. Jump a hundred years into the future, and her digi-mind is transferred into a mammoth/elephant hybrid so that she, as a mother mammoth, can teach hybrid mammoths to be real mammoths in Siberia. Scenes written in smooth prose loop around in time. In the first scene, the woman’s mind is already in the mammoth. It’s an interesting choice, as it demands the reader make an imaginative leap from the get-go. I got it and enjoyed it, but as a novelist, I recognized the cost in starting with this scene, which is that the drama of the hero’s transformation from human to mammoth, drama which could have been developed in a chronological story, is sacrificed. The drama becomes whether or not the mama mammoth can save the other mammoths from human enemies. #writerdavidbarringer #raynayler #scifriday #scififriday #fictionrecommendations #amreadingsciencefiction #amreadingscifi

Bringing together poignant tales of love, trauma, and resilience, this collection delves into the lives of ordinary people facing extraordinary challenges. From confronting abuse to grappling with racial prejudices, each story offers searing honesty and wry humor, challenging readers to rethink notions of identity and belonging. In particular, 'My Mother Pattu' stood out to me as a deeply moving tale. Having had the privilege of hearing the author read an excerpt at the Singapore Writers' Festival, I was captivated and knew I had to own a copy of this book. Several stories touched me profoundly, shedding light on the multifaceted issues faced by Malaysians. With each narrative, the author skillfully navigates themes of love, trauma, and resilience, urging readers to confront uncomfortable truths about identity and privilege. ✨ Please do give this book a shot, it's truly worth the read. • • • • #qotd #bookstagram #mymotherpattu #bookcommunity #bookstagramsg #bookrecommendations #fictionrecommendations #hotgirlreads #summerreads #bookishlove #bookreview #igreads #readersofinstagram #singlit #malaysianlit #southeastasianliterature #SEAbooks #tbrlist #readingmotivation #reading

Chrysalis by Anna Metcalfe is a fascinating yet slightly odd debut novel. It centres around the bizarre metamorphosis of the main female character, told from the perspective of three people who have been close to her at some point during their lives. The main character has been through a trauma and as a result decides to make her body and mind “stronger”. She posts viral videos advocating for her viewers to take drastic measures to achieve true self-sufficiency. I like the New York Times Book Review: “Chrysalis is a thrilling look at how we spin silk around ourselves by watching the world on our screens”. This alienation triggered by the amount of time and energy we spend on our screens rather than truly connecting off screen, is making us lonely. Our obsession with self control and protection is making us sick. This book to me speaks of the dangers of a lack of authentic off screen human connection and that need to control our bodies and minds to make us stronger, more productive and independent humans. It speaks of the inauthenticity we may experience when we follow someone online, as well as the narcissistic and obsessive character traits that social media can exasperate. The way the book is split into three perspectives, displays the consequences that a life lived vicariously through someone else can lead to. I think it’s an edgy, confusing and intriguing contemporary novel, packed with so much to discuss! I also love the new paperback cover 🥰. Thank you so much @grantabooks for this copy!! #bookseller #bookstagram #booklover #bookworm #chrysalis #annametcalfe #fiction #fictionrecommendations #bookrecommendations #bookmail #socialmedia

April is National Arab American Heritage Month. However, I never like to be that boxed in. So here are some books by Arab authors from across the world. Some of these I've read, and some I've heard good things about. The Arab region covers 22 countries and a vast diaspora. Over 475 million people live in the Arab region, and more in the diaspora. (For example, I've included some authors who live in the U.S., Canada, and Britain in this post.) I firmly believe reading diversely is important. I have included a lot of different genres here (novel in verse, childrens, poetry, fantasy, literary, realism, magical realism, nonfiction, graphic memoir, memoir, and nonfiction.) Whatever you read, I'd recommend picking up one by an Arab author. I finished Sirens & Muses by Antonia Angress this week and WOW - it was an incredible read. Sirens & Muses by Antonia Angress ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 22/100 Sirens & Muses follows artists and Wrynn students Karina, Louisa, and Preston along with artist and guest professor, Robert, as they all navigate the changing landscape of the art world during the Occupy Wall Street movement in 2011 Manhattan. As the reader you watch as all four of the characters slowly orbit each other, until some inevitably crash together, as they struggle to find where they and their art fit into the new horizons of the world they’ve just been thrust into. Putting this book down was hard for me. I wanted to keep reading, to see what the characters would do next. I was especially drawn to Karina and Louisa, the way they interacted with each other, the way their friendship and relationship evolved, and their relationships to their craft changed and evolved throughout the story. This would be a perfect read for you if you liked Gossip Girl, enjoy character-driven plot, flowing prose, imperfect main characters, and a full-circle finish. Onto the next. 🍸📚🎨🌸🌙🌗

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #ohsister by Jodie Chapman We meet Zelda, Jen and Isobel, at different stages of their lives and living very different lives from each other. The one thing linking them is their connection to a religious group where women are submissive to men. This book is utterly compelling, emotional and empowering! It is beautifully written, I was rooting for all three of these women. There were plenty moments where I was either frustrated, shocked or had tears in my eyes. It’s based on real events, the subject matter includes abuse and grief, a challenging but beautiful read! A must read and it’s only 99p just now on kindle! Love, loss, and grief. Out of these three emotions, loss and grief tend to stay with us longer. They leave us with nothing but the echoes of "what ifs" and the haunting possibility of different paths. This book beautifully unfolds the layers of human emotion after the loss of a loved one. In a long time, no other book has left such a significant mark on my memory. The story follows Julie, who calls her deceased boyfriend, Sam, and to her astonishment, he picks up. Julie embarks on a personal journey, trying to wrap her head around this impossible situation. She fears losing the unique connection she has with Sam, even if it means letting go. This book is about more than just loss. It's about love, friendship, and ultimately, coming to terms with your life and moving forward. . . . . . #bookrecommendations #bookrecommendation #fictionreads #fictionrecommendations #fictionreads #fiction #fictional #youngadultbooks #youngadultbooksgram #bookcommunity #bookcover #review #bookreview #bookrecommendations #youhavereachedsam #romance #novels

The cover is ✨BEAUTIFUL✨Makes me want to buy the physical copy just to display on my shelves. Moving on…The book was entertaining! Learned a few cool things about tribal membership and views from this cultural perspective that I found super interesting. The details regarding the community made this mystery feel different than others, and I always appreciate variation in a genre. There are a few different plot lines and it gets a little tangles there in the middle but if you do decide to read it, it pays off in the end. I thought it was a good read even if I might have enjoyed the community/culture aspect of the book better than the actual mystery. 😅 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #book #bookrecommendations #bookreview #bookreviewer #romancebooks #romancebookstagram #historicalfiction #fictionrecommendations #mysterybooks #mysterybookrec #readingjournal #bujo #bookjournal #journaling

𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝗪𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 by Heather Gudenkauf. Thanks to @parkrowbooks @htp_hive for the gifted Arc ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⁣ ⁣ Five contestants have been selected to compete for ten million dollars in the new reality show, One Lucky Winner. As the contestants begin, they realize there are no rules and more than money behind the game. ⁣ ⁣ While a bit far fetched, it’s certainly an entertaining thriller and fast paced. I was appreciative that the book only had about seven characters to keep track of. Many reality tv plots have too many characters. Since there were only five contestants we were really able to get to know each of them. It definitely kept my attention and was constant action. The games and contests were fun to read about. ⁣ ⁣ “𝘕𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘦𝘭 𝘨𝘢𝘮𝘦. Fancy stumbling upon, out of the blue along the aisle of fiction-only books, the unmistakable name of one of your favourite poets, furtively shoehorned amidst volumes of novels thick and thin: Louise Glück and about the only work of fiction, in all its brevity and simplicity and eloquence, in her canon of poetry and essays and who amongst poetry-lovers could resist? 《Mother and Father each had a special baby. Not that they had labels: Mother could perfectly well diaper Marigold, and Father was admirably natural when he burped Rose. But everyone knew Rose was Mother’s bany and Marigold was Father’s. Or maybe it happened the other way. Maybe Rose took Mother, being the one born first, and Marigold got Father. Rose took no time at all to deliberate. This was her way. Or maybe Father paired up with Marigold because the burping took such a long time and Father was more patient. Also it was well known that Mother had more on her plate. Father just had wine on his plate.》 . Everyone should be able to immerse themselves in female literature. I wanted to share books I don't often see being shouted about, by authors who need to be celebrated more. Betraying Big Brother is my current read and it's a stark reminder of how much more work feminist movements in China, and around the world, still have to do. Do you have any fav female author recs? Syracuse, 412 BC. As the Peloponnesian War rages, two childhood friends, Lampo and Gelon, survey a quarry full of Athenian prisoners. Half starved to death, beaten, broken, the prisoners are reduced to begging for scraps of food. The friends are happy to oblige on one condition - the prisoners must recite lines from the plays of Euripides. Lampo is doing this for the craic but Gelon - Gelon is a Euripides fanboy with a dream: To stage a performance of Medea in the quarry - with these half-dead Athenians in the starring roles. There are romantic subplots, colourful townsfolk and a shady benefactor who may or may not be in possession of a god, but the beating heart of the story is the relationships between Gelon, Lampo and the prisoners, and the question of just how much they’re willing to risk to give these men one last shot at living. I honestly can’t remember a recent novel I loved as much as this one. It’s such a cliché to say “it made me laugh and cry” but it absolutely did, several times. Lampo is a joy to spend time with and his narration in Irish vernacular is an inspired touch. A gorgeous novel about finding truth, beauty, humanity and connection when all hope seems lost. I LOVED it. @ferdialennon @penguinfigtree #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booklover #bookaddict #readingcommunity #bookrecommendations #bookrec #bookrecs #historicalfiction #ancientgreece #debutnovel #greatreads #2024books #fictionbooks #fictionrecommendations

Nothing about this book is predictable…Some of the tension eventually slackens, but the novel seamlessly blends the personal with the political: when Insuk learns of the sinking of a South Korean ferry and a likely a coverup by the government, she reflects, “The way a ship sinks in compartments, from one partition to another, was the way a country sank.” The novel suggests no nation is virtuous, and South Korea only seems so in contrast with North Korea. —Cary Holladay reviews The Liberators by E. Another five star novel by Kristin Hannah. She is such a talented storyteller, and I always find myself completely invested in her characters. She knows how to bring historical events to life and in the process educate her readers without making it feel like a lecture. I’m ashamed to admit how little I knew about the Vietnam War before reading this novel. It compelled me to research some questions I had while reading, and I’m inspired to learn more. I have always respected the military and those in the nursing profession, and this book reminds the reader of the monumental sacrifices, made by individuals who serve our country. Highly recommend. #bookreview #bookrecommendations #historicalfiction #bookstagram #fictionrecommendations #readmorebooks

💭 Staff Review 💭 🟢Green Dot - Madeleine Gray🟢 With its wit, youthful vernacular and biting observational intelligence, Gray deftly captures the complexities of love and identity in the modern world. Her protagonist is perfectly flawed, and it is in their journey of naivety turned empowered autonomy that the novel excels. - Isa #GreenDot #MadeleineGray #newreleaseliterature #fictionrecommendations #readfiction #collinsbooksellers #collinscottesloe #lovetoshoplocal #perthbookshop #cottesloecommunity #napoleonstreet

About to sink my teeth into a new read… #DuttonPartner “Set in the glossy world of beauty and fashion in New York City, this sharp and witty debut novel charts two high powered women who connect over work—and perhaps more—while they navigate identity, belonging, and the complexity of modern relationships in the digital age.” #ellipses by @vanessalawrencewriter comes out March 5th, 2024 Thank you for the free book @duttonbooks Posted @withregram • @vanessalawrencewriter I am beyond excited to share the cover of my debut novel, Ellipses, which will be published in March 2024. Ellipses follows a young woman caught in a toxic mentorship with an older executive against the backdrop of an increasingly digitized New York media world. This design perfectly captures the liminal tension and digital half-lives and youthful longing and quest for wholeness at the heart of this story. Plus, it features some of my favorite colors 🔮🔮🔮 If you think you—or anyone you know—would like to read Ellipses come spring 2024, I’d be so grateful if you’d consider pre-ordering a copy from your preferred retailer. Please see the link in my bio for more info. Pre-orders are really helpful to a book’s reach and success. Thank you so much to the @duttonbooks team and to my ⭐️ agent @tortilla_510 for making this dream possible. So Late in the Day 🌅 Claire Keegan This is my second Claire Keegan book and I love them as little 1 hour audiobooks that can be finished in one sitting. They’re beautifully written and there’s something very calming about them. This is a short story about Cathal, he finishes work and has the long weekend ahead which he uses to reflect on his relationship with Sabine and a marriage that would have been. Sabine shines a light on Cathal’s deeply ingrained misogyny that even he is unaware of. With a series of flashbacks we gain introspection into the start, middle and end of a relationship within such a short space of time. “You know what is at the heart of misogyny? When it comes down to it?” I want to listen to Antarctica next! “So I’m a misogynist now?” “It’s simply about not giving,” she said. “Whether it’s not giving us the vote or not giving help with the dishes—it’s all clitched to the same wagon.” “Hitched,” Cathal said. “What?” “It’s not ‘clitched,’ ” he said. “It’s ‘hitched.’ ” “You see?” she said. “Isn’t this just more of the same? You knew exactly what I meant—but you cannot even give me this much.” #solateintheday #clairekeegan #antarctica #smallthingslikethese #irishauthors #femaleauthors #shortstories #shortreads #audiobook #audiobookrecommendation #bookrecommendations #bookblog #bookstagram #booksta #bookish #bookcommunity #fiction #fictionrecommendations

Cleopatra and Frankenstein • Coco Mellors ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⚠️ Somewhat of a spoiler below 👇🏼 I have seen a lot of mixed reviews about this book but I was drawn in because the plot seemed interesting. The sequence of events is told through various character points of view but mainly revolves around the marriage/ relationship between Cleo who is in her twenties and Frank whom is in his forties. The supporting characters help tie in all of the aspects and conversations we don’t get from the main two characters. I think that this story was well done . Cleopatra and Frankenstein tells the tale of two people from two different worlds that come together for a moment but ultimately cannot make it work due to their trauma and pasts. I get why people did not enjoy this book, the writing style and format is unique and some of the chapters were kind of long. But I thought it was an enjoyable read. #cleopatraandfrankenstein #kindlereader #kindlepaperwhite #bookish #booksbooksbooks #bookclub #readingchallenge2024 #readingsuggestions #bookrecommendations #bookrecs #bookstagram #fictionrecommendations
