Everyone wants to win, but not everyone is willing to do what it takes to win #hardpilltoswallow But that’s okay. You just aren’t allowed to throw a fit and be upset and blame things outside of your own actions if you didn’t execute how you should have. If I could go back in time and do it all over again, I would NOT have stepped on stage in 2017. Yes, it taught me a lot and I learned how hard bodybuilding actually was because of that experience…..but something I wish I knew when I first thought about competing is how unnecessary it is to rush the process. And unfortunately this is something I am seeing with a lot of first time competitors. It’s all about winning the first ever show they do or turning pro their first season. Respectfully, if you’re a first time competitor, you’re in the diapers phase right now. You’re wearing the training bra. BUT YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO WALK BEFORE YOU CAN RUN. Ask any of the most seasoned pros out there how long they have been competing for and you’ll realize that this is a sport that doesn’t make you an athlete in 12 weeks. This is something I remind myself daily, especially when I am in the depths of prep. DEC 2023 ➡️ MAY 2024 I spent the majority of 2023 getting extremely uncomfortable. When we started training @kari_robin, she had not trained for years. We introduced tracking macronutrients in her diet, weight training, and endurance exercise to help her achieve her ideal physique. She started at 141 lbs (24% BF) in July 2023, where she gradually and sustainably got down to 125lbs (9.9% BF) on show day. She religiously practiced posing every Wednesday and Friday. She faced adversity throughout competition prep- juggling children/household duties, body dysmorphia, self-doubt, and even her competition bikini breaking only an hour before she stepped on stage. She took those feelings of self-doubt and left them backstage. Last weekend I was watching Siggi’s event, and dammmm, what a amazing day it was! Kudos to @siggi.segers @siggi.npc for organizing another wonderful competition edition! After spending a day watching the competition, I was once again energized by the atmosphere and the amazing athletes. It got me so excited to compete again. Even though it’s not time for me yet, I really enjoy thinking about what it will be like when I do compete again.😍 Looking back at photos from my own competition also gives me so much motivation! But let’s not forget how grateful I am for the people who were there for me. One of these people is my love, who had to deal with me every day. Appreciation Post 🥹🫶🏻 1) I just want to say thank you to every single person who has come along with me on this journey whether you’ve been vocal in expressing your support or watching from afar. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to have closed the loop on a 10 year dream, this day was absolutely everything to me. 2) To my family: So many sacrifices went into this prep and I appreciate the teamwork it took to get me on stage. Getting me up in the mornings, getting me to sleep at night, helping me with my food, massages, mental breakdowns, missing basketball games etc. None of it went unnoticed. 3) To my friends and more of my family: Paying to watch me from the livestream, paying for flights, paying for gas to drive 9 hrs one way, paying for your tickets and making signs, banners, shirts, and buying me flowers plus taking your Sundays off to spend it with me-I am so beyond grateful because we truly were the biggest group in the entire venue and I’m so blessed to have had each of you there to share the most special moment with me. I have never hugged so many people in my entire life and never felt more loved. This was better than any birthday I’ve ever had in all 34 years of being on earth. 4) To my coach: We didn’t place where we wanted and that’s OK! Not every champion will take first at their show, but every champion will recognize what they need to improve on and be ready and willing to do the work. We are going to come out stronger than ever for the next show because our focus is on getting better every single day. Game face because it’s looking like I’m going to have to learn my aerial this summer. That’s a cartwheel with no hands 🤸🏻♀️ My daughter plans to try out for pomline when school starts this fall, and this is one of the skills she needs. Rather than pay for private lessons, I’ve decided I have the experience to teach her. I might as well learn it either way her to show her we can do hard things🙄 I grew up doing competitive gymnastics. I could do this skill on a balance beam once upon a time. I even coached and was a certified judge during and after high school. What we’re facing? She had surgery on her spine a couple years ago, and things became more challenging coming back from that. For me? It’s been almost 30 years 😬. I’m in good shape, but I don’t have the flexibility I once had. IFBB Nationals ♥️ Here’s to being a #ladddyyyinnnredddddddd for my fifth and final show of the season 🥲💃🏻 I felt so confident presenting this package on stage yesterday - I know it was my best to date and I’m so proud of myself for continuously applying judges feedback each and every peak week to level-up and improve between shows and not tapping out or fading away 😌👊 After competing in five consecutive shows during the past 28 days it feels incredibly strange and surreal to now be “post-show” for good. I genuinely have the drive, energy, and stamina to keep competing, however in order to achieve my long-term goals in this sport I know that it’s now time to transition into my next chapter of growth and improvement. I’m fired-up and insanely determined to put judges feedback into action and tackle this next year of lower body development before I make a return to the IFBB stage in 2025! Choosing to travel, compete, and take full advantage of the IFBB state shows on offer this SZN A was honestly the best decision I could have made as a young and upcoming athlete 💯 The lessons I learnt from each and every stage experience were so incredibly valuable and I gained so much knowledge throughout this journey that I couldn’t have possibly been taught otherwise without doing the thing for real and actually competing. You can listen to all of the podcasts, have the most supportive and knowledgeable coach, spend hours upon hours practicing your posing and training hard in the gym, watch all of the YouTube videos, attend bodybuilding shows, coach athletes yourself, purchase all of the ebooks, diet your heart out - but nothing will EVER trump true stage experience. Every moment is an opportunity to reset and start over. Sometimes in order to reset you have to accept what you cannot change, and understand that your path won’t always go the way you want it to. This means letting go of expectations, ideas, and people that are no longer serving your greatest good, no matter how hard it feels in the moment. Taking the last couple of months to eat what I want and focus on enjoying my training has been so therapeutic. I went out to the pool WITHOUT my laptop or books for 45 minutes and I let myself…rest. What if we reframe our idea: Rest is essential to productivity. Boredom, stillness, and downtime all allow your brain to consolidate memories connect ideas, problem solve and cultivate creativity. Rest is part of my productivity. Rest is not earned. It’s not a reward. It is necessary. Just like any skill, rest needs to be practiced. It is uncomfortable, but that indicates you’re on the right track. It is not laziness. Trusting the process, my coach, my timing & execution. There is no room for self doubt & other noise this prep. We are bringing MY best to my 2024 season and the growth that I pushed for mentally & physically since I stepped off stage over a year ago. It’s been quite the roller coaster. If there’s anything I learned from my first prep it’s: what another athlete looks like this far out from show day doesn’t matter, what another athlete does to get to the stage also doesn’t matter. What DOES matter is controlling the controllable, and appreciating my own journey to the stage. I paid my dues as a fat ass this off season, now we get to reveal just how hard I worked in due time.
