Recently life has been going 10 to the dozen! With Billy being unwell and then Easter and his birthday, he hasn’t been in school since 1st March! We have had no ‘downtime’ and no proper rest. Just one busy day to the next. On top of that, trying to keep the house tidy, Billy’s care/physio/sickness, my studying, and trying to stay on track at the gym I think this week my body and mind has just quit! I woke this morning feeling so ill - full of cold, head like it’s in a vice, and dizziness and nausea while trying to lift my head off the pillow. My mind has been racing all day and I couldn’t concentrate on any job - even small ones! Took the day off - no studying, no housework, just rest and looking after Billy. Felt better this evening so headed to the gym for a 45 minute workout and now I feel calm enough to do some sewing. It’s been over a week since I last did any! I am all about positivity, silver linings, and reframing. I believe we can choose happiness. I think we have more control than we give ourselves credit for. All of that said, it doesn’t have to be that way all the time. We are human and we are allowed off days. We don’t have to force happy feelings or decide to make better choices. We can sit in negativity and be annoyed with life. We can mope and pout and ruminate and stomp our feet literally or figuratively. So take a day. Don’t stay there forever, but take the time you need. Let’s just be real for a moment. I have anxiety, and most days it is manageable, but not today. I literally texted my husband and told him I was having a heart attack. I couldn’t breathe, I had a sharp pain in my chest, and I was very weak. I felt like my body was failing me and I was failing my family. I came home and took a hot bath (which didn’t help) and I laid in bed contemplating going to the hospital. Then my husband came home, brought me something to drink, gave me my weighted blanket and tucked me in bed. My kids came and gave me their favorite stuffed animals and all the love I needed to get better. Wyatt snuggled in bed with me and we watched cartoons while dad and Cole watched hockey. Although I feel a little better, I still don’t feel the best but I know in time it will pass. It is okay to take a night off and give yourself a break. I used to live life in the fast lane…I think I even wore being busy as a badge of honour.😒 The trouble with that is it stole my sleep and sent my stress levels soaring. Being constantly busy put a significant dent in my health. 3 years ago I was forced to take a break, re-evaluate busyness and my life. It was time to give myself a break – literally. Slow Sundays for me means doing things at a much slower pace just one day a week. 3 years ago when I began looking at what “slow living” means I began by introducing “slow Sunday”, which not only allows me to unwind from a busy week, it helps put me in the right mindset to head into a brand new week, too. Having a slow Sunday doesn’t mean I do nothing, although I have those Sundays too 😉, but the idea is that it’s a day where you get to take a break from the things that typically deliver a dose of busy to your everyday life! Sweaters & Spines on this cozy Sunday morning🫶🏼 • Growing up, whenever I found myself in a funk or in the middle of a bad day, my mom would always say the same thing: • “Take a day, Sis.” • She would tell me to take a full day for ME. Be selfish, pout, cry, lose my mind, eat like junk, stay in bed all day, do whatever. • But then? The next day? • Pick yourself up and DO. You can still be angry or sad. You can still be in a funk. But once your day is up, do the things that tomorrow you will thank you for. Hi everyone, So work was mentally exhausting last night, things happened, and I started second-guessing myself, and now it's affected my mood. My head has completely taken over in telling me I'm not capable of doing what I do and to just call it what it us...another failure on my part. I just want to stay in bed, cry, and sleep, feeling like a total screw up for something that I know wasn't done wrong by me or anyone I was working with. I'm not even sure I want to do today, I feel I forced all my energy into the gym and therefore have none left for the remainder of the day. Just exhausted. I'm going to leave it there and I'll update when I can. Mental health is a tough thing to talk about in business. I’m here to tell you it’s well worth it. August 1st I began taking 1 day a week for me. I rest, I clean my house, run my errands, read a book, lounge around, get a pedicure, get my hair done or like today- get a massage. This is a day for me to do all the ME things I’ve been needing to do but can’t because kids, life, work, sports, mom life, etc.
While it’s hard for me as a business owner to say I am taking a day off in the middle of the week, I am able to use this day to do all the things I think about all week long. This has created a more productive work week for me. In the remaining days I’m in the office I get more accomplished than I was before!
