Book 57 of 2024 finished 9/5/24 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Piper is a wealthy socialite who spends her days shopping, partying or sharing on social media. When her outrageous actions cause her stepdad to cut her off and force her to be independent she finds herself in the small fishing town where her birth father lived. Piper realises that there is more to life than putting on a show for others, she makes connections with long lost family and learns how important her father was to the small community. Unfortunately for Piper not everyone in the community is happy she has arrived. Brendan is grumpy and harsh and doesn’t like how Piper has taken over the town bar, but they can’t deny the attraction between them. However, she is returning to LA in a few weeks time and he spends his life at sea, is it really worth giving in to the temptation. My thoughts: Small town romance, grumpy sunshine, opposites attract. As with all the Tessa Bailey books I’ve read so far, there is some steam. This book is marketed as inspired by Schitts Creek which is one of my favourite shows and Tessa is one of my favourite authors but this just didn’t hit the mark for me. The humour wasn’t there, the characters lacked depth and the story was predictable. There is nothing Schitts Creek about this other than a rich girl losing her money and living in a small town. I did enjoy Piper’s growth and how she matured through the story and the chemistry between the couple was strong. The romance is cute. If you like a pining hero then you’ll love Brendan, he hides behind a grumpy exterior at the start of the book but soon lays all his cards on the table and begs for Piper throughout the whole book. Es una narración sumamente ligera, rápida de leer, o sea, de una pura sentada lo terminas, más encima los personajes son entretenidos de seguir. En relacion a ello, los personajes principales tienen un crecimiento impresionante a lo largo de la lectura y a pesar de ser algo ligero, no se siente forzado. This is the first time I’ve read the marriage in trouble trope, and I love it. It’s so obvious from the beginning of the book that Rosie and Dominic care so much about each other but don’t know how to express it. I love them so much. There’s so much emotional depth in this book. And spice, of course. Rosie feels unloved by her husband, who barely speaks to her after returning from Afghanistan as part of the military. Dominic doesn’t understand why Rosie is unhappy with him, but he tries his best to make her happy anyway through his actions, though he keeps them a secret because he doesn’t want to claim credit and earn brownie points for things he thinks are just his job. I love that the author shows how Dominic wasn’t the only person who messed up in the marriage – Rosie hadn’t done her part to make Dominic feel loved either. It also touches my heart how he’s so selfless and willing to do anything to make his wife happy. It’s just beautiful. All in all, this is a second-chance love story between a married couple who have loved each other since they were kids. I think it’s sweet, especially with how they’re still crazy in love with each other. They’re fun, they’re silly, they’re cute, they’re spicy, and overall I am generally entertained. This book was no different! I’d go so far as to say it had some truly stellar moments—and I’ll never be over “he’d choose her smile over oxygen.” That said, I struggle with romances where the primary conflict/obstacle to the relationship is just “they won’t talk about their feelings” and this one is definitely that. The third act breakup was also absolutely ridiculous to me, and frankly unnecessary. I loved the set up for the next book that we got here, though, and am really looking forward to reading that one soon! I finally finished Fangirl Down— and let’s just say it’s left me a bigger Tessa Bailey fan than ever! As someone who’s dating a golfer, I was hoping for a teeny bit more golf content (for my personal education lol), but I enjoyed reading this book 💚. ✨REVIEW✨ Let me just get this out the way: THIS MAN HAS A FILTHY MOUTH. For that reason alone this book earned most of it’s stars. Her family treating her like a child hit a bit too close to home but it made it so realistic. I like that about it. Fix Her Up by Tessa Bailey 4/5 stars I really liked the story of this one. Her career was super fitting, and she was pretty funny. I had more critiques than I usually have, though. A good portion of the characters I really didn’t care for, and the no epilogue thing is really throwing me off! However, I am super excited to read Rosie’s story. Loves: - I already love the group “Just Us League”. I’m so glad the girls are building friendships. Plus it’s putting Georgie’s sister in a position to realize how poorly she was treating Georgie - Rosie is so sweet. I’m hoping she’s in a future book! Her relationship journey would be so interesting - The personal growth both main characters make is so awesome. Georgie just needed a confidant, and Travis needed help to see his worth. - His grand gesture was very sweet - I loved the whole clown thing she had going! It was such a fitting career for her and so not what I would have expected Critique: - not really a critique, more an annoyance, but her family really bothers me. The sister, I can get along with. The brother and father I don’t care for. They’re both buttheads. They treat Georgie poorly and believe so little in her. I really dislike their characters. Plus I find her brother’s wife childish with how all-over-the-place she is. It just seems like she’s upset about the smallest things and expects him to jump through hoops to make up for his “inadequacies”. - Again, no epilogue! Oh man, this was such a fun, light sports romance! As someone who is not a golf fan, I was a little worried it would be too focused on the sport but this was a great combo of the sport and romance! Thoughts: -I love a down-on-his-luck pro athlete who lost his mojo slowly learning to fall in love with the sport again storyline. I do wish it showed him falling in love with the sport more than just Josephine, but it was still so good -The chemistry between Josephine and Wells leaped off the page and in true Tessa Bailey fashion, the spicy scenes were 🔥 -Josephine was a great character. ⛳️Fangirl Down by Tessa Bailey⛳️ Josephine Doyle and Wells Whitaker are PERFECT for each other. This whole book is a banter-fest and innuendoes, and I loved every second of it. Josephine has been Wells's fangirl for 5 years. Now he's down in the dumps, but she's still standing on the sidelines, cheering him on for some insane reason. He's mean, she's sunshine, they clash. This is the perfect Grumpy x Sunshine romcom story. Miss Tessa thought we wouldn't realize this is her best novel yet. God, I'm so happy I have the Afterlight version of this. If you love romcoms, you definitely should check this out. I'm a golf sport romance girly now 💅 Have you read this yet?
#gelesen "It Happened One Summer" von Tessa Bailey Den Anfang fand ich sehr anstrengend, weil Piper mir in ihrer oberflächlichen Art und ihren Ansprüchen furchtbar auf die Nerven ging. Ich habe einfach keinen Bezug zu diesem ganzen Influencer-Glamour-Ding. Die beiden Schwestern haben auch gar nichts gelernt, was man zum normalen Leben braucht, weder den Umgang mit Geld noch wie man ein Essen kocht, wie man ein Feuer löscht oder wie man putzt. Das wäre die Verantwortung der Eltern gewesen und da gibt es leider keinerlei Aufarbeitung in diesem Buch. Aber sobald die Geschichte in Westport losging, wurde es besser. Ich hätte mir mehr Beschreibungen der Landschaft und des Hafens gewünscht, aber schon die Menschen dort fand ich sehr viel angenehmer als das ganze aufgesetzte Gehabe in Los Angeles. Es geht um Familie, Freundschaften und Liebe, um Wurzeln und Netzwerk. Piper macht hier eine beeindruckende Entwicklung, es ist schön zu beobachten, was sie in Westport über sich selbst und über das Leben lernt. Die Liebesgeschichte fand ich eigentlich ganz nett, die erotischen Passagen sind allerdings unterirdisch. Das Vokabular und die Beschreibungen der Handlungen sind peinlich bis sperrig. Piper ist auch meist sehr passiv, mag sein, dass sie es so mag, jedem Tierchen sein Plaisierchen, aber zeitgemäß wäre was anderes. Und es mag sein, dass manche Menschen so viel und solches Zeug beim Sex zueinander sagen, aber mein Fall ist das nicht. Über Verhütung und Krankheiten wird einmal nur ganz kurz geredet, als Brandon beim ersten Mal kein Kondom dabei hat. Das finde ich auch echt nicht zeitgemäß. Beide hatten angeblich gerade erst einen AIDS-Test, was mich bei Brandon sehr wundert, der angeblich seit 7 Jahren enthaltsamer Witwer ist. Es passt auch überhaupt nicht zu seinem Charakter, dass er ein angeblich so abwechslungsreiches Programm im Bett veranstaltet, während er z.B. beim Essen extrem festgefahren ist. Wer immer nur Fish & Chips im selben Lokal hintereinanderweg in sich reinstopft, der ist auch im Bett nicht anders. Das Drama gegen Ende der Geschichte ist so unnötig wie vorhersehbar. Fangirl Down by Tessa Bailey ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨(3.5) 🎧🎧🎧(3) Genre: Romance {open door} Format: Audio via Libby ( Callie Dalton) Published: Feb 13, 2024 Soundtrack: Nonsense - Sabrina Carpenter With salacious and witty banter, a bad boy athlete in need of a career rescue, and an independent, kind-hearted fan turned caddy, Fan Girl Down had the making of a knockout read. Yet, as my first full Tessa Bailey novel (I did enjoy her novella Same Time Next Year), this fell short. Wells Whitaker and Josephine Doyle had great one-liners and tension; I felt their attraction was more physical than emotional. Wells’ conduct makes him unlikable, and while he improves his golf game and attitude, there is no character development. In terms of romcoms, the amount of plot was par for course, aka slim. Although, the epilogue was sweet. Perhaps using the audio for this one led to my mediocre experience. Wells has much to say about their bedroom (and shower and golf cart) rendezvous and the narration is uncomfortable. The blunt language was a lot for me, but I think that is Tessa Bailey’s style based on my scanning of reviews for her other books. 🩺Type 1 Diabetes🩺: I would be remiss if I didn’t comment on diabetes management. Having access to insulin and needles, managing highs and lows, the need to count carbs, and having to plan more for travel is an everyday reality. Two qualms: Josephine mentioned she would rather be low than high. While both extreme highs and extreme lows can be an emergency, low blood sugar will kill someone significantly quicker than high! Additionally, she irritatingly kept referring to T1D as her “condition”; with close care, diabetics live “normal” lives. Overall, I still enjoyed it (in that I couldn’t put it down, but I also was zoning out). I plan to pick up the next book in the series (their meet cute was alluring), and I actually sent this paperback to my sister ( surprise! It is literally in your mailbox). Moving forward, I will avoid dual POV audios that are not dual cast. Do you think the format in which you read a book impacts your rating?

I liked that Piper and her sister came from a rich background in LA and reading how that played out when they got sent to a smaller town. It was interesting learning more about being a fisherman through Brendan the love interest, and it was fun reading their banter interactions. They started off not liking each other but quickly learnt each other had more layers than they anticipated. Piper and Brendan definitely developed as characters whilst still staying true to themselves. I will say I didn't love some of the miscommunication and felt there were a couple of points left uncovered, but I thought it was a cute ending and enjoyed reading about their relationship. Piper was hard to get into as a FMC, and Brendan was just a grump overall that would communicate very little. 🦀 But I knew reading that first book that the second book, following Hannah & Fox was going to be the story that really got me committed and going with their story, the town and their relationship. 🦀 I highly recommend reading this book, even if you did not read the first book because thankfully even though there are hints of things happening in the first book, the story can be read as a standalone and this felt like a highly more enjoyable book. 🦀 It was a fun and very sweet book with a Fox that grows a lot through the story, but so does Hannah. sooo i finished yours truly… i have mixed feelings🫠 best part of the book is definitely jacob’s character. he’s so sweet and thoughtful and overall just one of the most lovable characters. every time i read his pov i just melted😭 i also loved his humor throughout the book! now briana’s character - hmm i don’t know😭 in the very beginning i didn’t vibe with her but she quickly grew on me. i enjoyed the middle part of the book but then briana just became annoying to me🫣 always jumping to conclusions, making assumptions. i understood some of her actions but at one point it got too much and irked me so bad😭 i just felt like at her age and having had relationships, she should’ve been a little more upfront and communicative??? what do you think?🥲 overall, i think i enjoyed the book?😭😂 jacob and pretty much all the other characters were great!! there were some parts i found a bit cringey (like the really long part about tiktok lol) but i could overlook that. despite my complaints, i’d recommend if you want a short romance read with the sweetestttt mmc but keep in mind the miscommunication is real LOL (sorry if this is too long, i’m trying to talk more on here but i tend to ramble😭) what are some tropes you don’t like or bookish things you hate? - #bookstagram #booksta #bookstagrammer #romancereads #romancebooks #yourstruly #abbyjimenez #kindleunlimited #bookphoto #bookphotography #bookreview #bookcommunity #bookrecommendations #bookrecs #tessabailey #ithappenedonesummer #romancereader #booklover

A little late, but my April reads. Nothing stood out as a must read, but they were all enjoyable. Have you ever watched or played golfed? I've never golfed but I did plan an entire golf tournament. While it was successful and fun, it was also a lot of work that I don't look forward to having to do ever again. 😅 My first Tessa Bailey book read was a hit! Fangirl Down was fun, entertaining, hilarious and steamy. The main characters, grumpy, struggling golfer Wells and happy-go-lucky fangirl Josephine were the perfect blend of grump-sunshine who oozed attraction at its finest. I loved that Jospehine was already trying to get Wells to look on the bright side and who can’t love Wells' protectiveness of this ball of light that forced her way into his life. Also, I loved the uniqueness of this sports romance being about a golf athlete! Overall, this book made me laugh with the antics the two got themselves in, their banter and supportiveness for each other and it delivered on the happy feelings. Not to forget, Callie Dalton was an awesome narrator and creating distinctive voices for each character were excellent. Thank you @librofm for the alc.
