Urasawa-Typisch geht es auch hier um Globale Verschwörungen, Geschichtliche Ereignisse und ob es so etwas wie "Gut" und "Böse" überhaupt gibt. Und in Mitten all dessen, treibt immer eine Fledermaus sein Unwesen. In Billy Bat geht es um den Comiczeichner Kevin Yamagata (ja, der heißt echt Kevin), der mit seinem neuen Comic "Billy Bat" endlich Erfolg feiert, doch eines Tages findet er heraus, dass es diese Comicfigur anscheinend schon mal gab. Da er Copyright sehr ernst nimmt, will er den anderen Billy Bat Autor finden und sich seine Erlaubnis einholen, den Charakter auch weiterhin nutzen zu dürfen und muss dann erschrocken feststellen, dass nicht nur auch andere, mächtige Leute auf der Suche nach dem Ursprung dieser Comicfigur zu sein scheinen, sondern dass die Legende der Fledermaus die komplette Menschheitsgeschichte abdeckt und auch einen eigenen Willen zu haben scheint... Billy Bat ist in dieser Welt quasi Mickey Maus und es ist ein absoluter Fiebertraum einer Geschichte. Für mich ist das hier mit weitem Abstand der spaßigste Urasawa Manga zum lesen. Wenn plötzlich Jesus, H!tler und Kennedy vor dir stehen, hinterfragst du das in diesem Manga ab einem gewissen Zeitpunkt gar nicht mehr, weil Urasawa so ein Wahnsinniger Autor ist. Die Dritte Wand wird konstant gebrochen, Comicfiguren erwachen zum leben, die Hässlichkeit der Menschheit wird einem dauernd vor die Nase gehalten, währen Billy selbst nur darüber lachen kann. Das Zeichnen und die Macht von Kunst stehen hier im Vordergrund und als jemand der selbst sehr gerne Zeichnet, finde ich die Message dass Kunst die Welt verändern, gar sogar retten kann, wirklich inspirierend, auch wenn Urasawa an vielen Stellen über das Ziel hinausschießt und wieder ein Mal ein sehr überladenes und gehetztes Ende präsentiert. You, as a viewer, can see pretty clearly what questions author wants to discuss and what answers he manages to came to as you progress with the story, leaving you with full ability to go find your own perspective. @otaku_panels791 review: Billy Bat is quite possibly the best work of mangaka Naoki Urasawa (tho my personal favourite is 20th century boys). This work puts his genius as a writer and artist on full display. From the amazing, mind bending narrative that traverses time like Doctor Who in his TARDIS, somehow remaining concise despite its large scope, taking readers all over the world to witness these incredible events, all through the suggestions of The Bat. The characters are wonderfully written, each one unique and memorable as any character Urasawa has written in the past. From the two Kevins, the stories protagonists, to Walt Disn- I mean Chuck Culkin, to the mysterious Billy Bat himself. Many real historical figures play a role in this complex story, and just like the fictional characters in the story, each and everyone of them is fully fleshed out, developed, and utilised within the story, none are forgotten and left behind. Urasawa’s art does not get talked about enough in my opinion, and I think Billy Bat is where his unique style shines the most. Every detail of this manga was fully explored and no doubt planned before hand with how complex its characters, story, and themes are. This is a beautiful, intelligent work of art the deserves more love and attention. A manga every person should read once in their life, at least. It’s an eye opening story that may leave you questioning the world around you.

21st Century Boys Ult. Del. Ed. - Naoki Urasawa Eccomi. Un manga che da sempre avrei voluto leggere, ma in un’edizione deluxe che davo per scontata eoni fa. Ho invece dovuto attendere molto più del previsto. In tutti questi anni sono riuscito ad evitare spoiler (sono stato bravissimo). Tutto ciò mi porta ad una situazione un po’ inedita: 20th Century Boys è infatti una delle prime letture che i ragazzi fanno approcciando i seinen manga, ma questa certamente non è la mia situazione. Leggendo e ascoltando le varie interviste di Urasawa si capisce che è sempre più orientato alla creazione di manga seriosi, lontano dalle commedie che hanno caratterizzato parte della sua carriera. 20th Century Boys incarna perfettamente questa sua posizione. Non c’è infatti spazio per i soliti personaggi e le solite scenette demenziali. Qui è tutto raccontato con estrema serietà e non capita spesso neanche tra i seinen manga. In questo senso capisco quanto possa essere grande il salto che un giovanissimo lettore fa passando da uno shounen e atterrando su questa serie. Asadora ha ad esempio una spruzzata di allegria, di luce in più, che in qualche modo riesce a ricordarmi un mix tra il mistero di 20th Century e lo spirito delle sue commedie. Tornando a 20th mi sarei aspettato un inizio più pimpante, più travolgente, invece è tutto abbastanza controllato e mi è mancato il sentirmi risucchiato dalla storia.
