There is a reason I put myself through The Bulgarian Split Squats in my home workouts. I find it the best exercise to keep my legs strong even when im not getting the miles in 🥲, It primarily targets the quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes. It builds unilateral strength, working one leg at a time, which makes it excellent for improving balance and coordination, as well as correcting muscle imbalances between the legs. Foam rolling doesn’t release fascia or break up adhesions, but that doesn’t mean it’s a total waste of time. In fact, there’s a huge benefit that I don’t hear anyone mention! Of course there are some superficial benefits such as increased blood flow and might decrease post-workout soreness. The way I see it, if incorporating foam rolling into your warm up and/or cool down is the thing that gets you to ACTUALLY DO the warm up or cool down, it’s a huge benefit. A fundamental part of your workout will always be your warm-up and cool down afterwards. Warming up is essential to prevent injuries and prepare your central nervous system for your lifting session. I jotted down a few dos and don'ts to approach the start of your training in the best way possible. 1) Avoid too much cardio before a lifting session. Limit cardio to 5 min max, if you must. 2) Avoid static stretching. This should always be performed when your muscles are already warmed up. For this reason, it is more suitable as cool down after you complete your session. 3) Warm-up by performing a series of weighted sets progressively heavier. Even the U.S.military uses this move as a part it the PT testing service members engage in during training. So why is this move so essential, and how can you improve it? . . The push-up, like other pushing movements, is part of 5 functional movement patterns that the ACE Integrated Training Model includes as a way to improve overall health and fitness. Other essential movement patterns include the bend and lift, single leg movements, pull and rotation. . . When you are able to effectively move something away from your body with the strength of your arms, you are better able to preform other activities of daily living. . . The major muscles involved in most pushing movements include the PECTORALIS MAJOR and MINOR, ANTERIOR DELTOIDS, and TRICEPS MUSCLES. . . When preforming a proper push-up, it is important to "pack the shoulders" by setting the shoulder blades in the correct and most powerful position. This ensures that the right muscles are doing the work. Before beginning a push-up, maintain straight arms and pull the shoulder blades down the back and together. Maintain this position of the shoulder blades as you complete your push-up. . . Here are moves to help improve the traditional push-up.
