This dark piece is from my 2015 series "Into The Woods". All the pieces in this series were made with charcoal during the winter. Normally I get really sad about the cold & lessened sunlight in winter but working on this series was a way for me to cope with the changing seasons & face my fears about change. This drawing shows the last light of day--what I call "the witching hour"--peaking through clouds & the skeleton of a pecan tree. The west mesa over-looking the valley where I live is seen in the bottom quarter of the image. This image still gives me chills, but it also helps me accept reality.
📍This drawing was created on & depicts the homeland of the Chiricahua & Mescalero Apache, and the Piro-Manso-Tiwa peoples.
