L O U N G E 🛋️ Last weekend we managed to get the lounge complete ready for carpets next week. The lounge has been a strange room as we’ve had unexpected damp spots, but fingers crossed it’s going to be okay🤞🏻 We’ve done what we can to aid it, so we’ve cracked on and hoping it will continue to dry out on its own once we have carpets and furniture in there. I absolutely adore the colour we have used in this room😍 we’ve used Valspar everywhere and I couldn’t recommend it enough! It’s so exciting seeing the rooms all finally come together😌🤩

And then onto our next costly mistake. Funny how these always happen when you're trying to save money. . The wet patch in the main bedroom where the chimney was leaking was getting worse and worse. I had lamented to our decorator who said his father in law was a builder/roofer and could fix it with resin and that this would be the quickest solution. He gave us a good price and we had it done. It made zero difference. Water was still pouring in. Eventually we found the time to do the research and choose a proper roofer who came and fitted new flashing and repointed most of the chimney, which worked. Turns out I love the colour. Yay. And then salts came through the paint. Not good 😫🧂 When we removed the built in shelves in this corner we found some historic damp and mould. We cleaned it up, stripped the plaster and left it to dry. We couldn't find a source of the damp so were pretty confident it had been fixed in the past. However in old houses when there is damp, minerals build up in the bricks. When you put a new plaster skim on, the wetness of the plaster draws the minerals out of the bricks and onto the surface, leaving salts. I had asked our plasterer to add an additive to the plaster that prevents this as I had read about it online, but he assured me it wasn't necessary. I didn't push as he was supposed to be the expert. Turns out it was necessary and our plasterer was a bit of a con man (more on that later). So I had to sand all the paint off, treat it and repaint it myself. Nightmare. Woo hoo the entire house has been rewired, including wiring for the garage conversion and eventual extension. We also found more damp (and a little mould) in what will be the three year old's room and a huge wet patch from a chimney leak in the main bedroom. We stripped all of the wet plaster away and set up heaters and a dehumidifier to give the bricks a chance to dry out before plastering. This weeks destruction was pulling the sink and toilet out! The room is totally empty, and as suspected it looks like the walls and ceiling need stripping right back. Finding it tough already, going from having 2 bathrooms to just one with a family of four living here. Let’s hope it doesn’t take too long to complete, but as we only have weekends, it’s going to take a while. A year ago the wall came down! The tiny kitchen was now kitchen-diner sized. The girls have celebrated by making us afternoon tea 😋 Rustic scones as we still can't find where we put the cutters! We had no cooker for 6 months when we moved in. It had been condemned by the gas man the week before completion! We survived with a borrowed plug in induction hob and the slow cooker. I will enjoy the normality, the routine and of course - not being paid maternity pay! I will miss being and home with our youngest, it’s been such a pleasure watching him grow. January has been good to us. Mr Fox did the base render on the exterior and started the panelling on the landing. A new lamp was purchased in the @nextofficial sale A gorgeous print was gifted to us by @theseprintstho New pillows for our bed were purchased from @wayfairuk and have made our bed seem very plush. I finally finished my new photo frame revamp and put it up. February - the start of spring. Our youngest turns one. After a few hectic weeks, we now have a fully functioning kitchen! We tried to document it from the same angle each time and it's so crazy to see how much it's changed. ‘the throne of house pea’ I have far too many professional pictures of perfectly designed kitchens going on at the moment, so I felt the need to bring us back to reality.. we are slowly creating our downstairs loo/ utility room and it’s probably the thing that excites me the most! I needed to get a sense of space so made this beaut.. with one toilet for five people (four men), and no washing machine for 14 months, this couldn’t come soon enough!! it will house the boiler, a hidden cistern, a belfast sink, and a stacked washer dryer not bad for a room created from nothing!
