5 years ago today was the first time my song played on the radio! The station was 107.3 in Washington DC with @djalkimist 👏🤘🙏. I celebrated the same way anyone would...by pouring champagne all over myself 😂🤘. IT WAS THE RADIO!? HELLLLO this was like a LIFE LONG goal/dream accomplished I wasn’t gonna half ass this celebration! 🤣🤣 The song was called ‘Rockstar life’ and it was written and performed by myself and produced by super music producer @cannibalmusic 👏🤘. We had a bunch of friends over to celebrate and it was an amazing night! Since then I have played on more stations, written for myself and many others, traveled the country writing and performing music, and it’s been an amazing non-stop passion filled ride. I was reminded of this reality that I tried to shine a light on in this song yesterday when hearing of the current political climate in Kansas. Current governor-elect Laura Kelly campaigned on and is working to put money into expanding Medicaid in the state to provide health coverage to more Kansas families, similar to the expansion that happened right in our back yard in Virginia. Expanding that coverage would provide healthcare to over 150,000 people. This song is for all the people in Kansas who are going through a tough time and see this new opportunity as the light at the end of the tunnel. Personally, I have gone through life without healthcare and experienced the massive negative effect not having insurance can have when you need it most. Christmas is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, and for a lot of people it is, but for a lot of people, it isn't. In 2017, the US Census Bureau determined 39.7 million people were poor in the United States. This works out to 12.3 percent of the population, or 1 in 8 Americans. These are friends, neighbors, and relatives. This holiday season, rather than make a song about being merry and cheery, I wanted to write a song to acknowledge them, a song about real shit, to serve as both a tribute and an acknowledgement. For those who have faced a string of bad luck but yet get up and grind for a better future for themselves and their families. For those who sometimes have their back against a wall with no options, who need to provide by any means necessary. For those that are regretting the holidays instead of looking forward to them. Please keep your fellow humans in mind this year, donate an unused coat, donate food, do whatever you can to make someone else’s life a little better this holiday season.
