𝗡𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗼 𝗠𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗲𝗹: 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮 𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗱 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮 El Negro Miguel, con un discurso de libertad y contra toda forma de opresión, que está vigente todavía, lideró la primera insurrección de esclavos en Venezuela, dando ejemplo de conciencia de lo que significa para un pueblo asumir su dignidad humana y hacer todo para conservarla y defenderla. Con ese discurso persuadió a los esclavos africanos a acompañarlo y convenció a los indígenas jirajaras, también en cautiverio en las minas de Buría, para armar el grupo con que derrotó la fuerza militar de españoles que custodiaban la recién fundada ciudad de Nueva Segovia de Barquisimeto. Se estima que su lucha ocurrió más o menos en esta época del año, y que su acción liberadora, se inicia posiblemente el 28 de abril de 1553: no se limitó a huir de sus amos; asumió una labor de hostigamiento contra las minas de oro de Buría, donde había sido esclavo y, finalmente, con aquel pequeño ejército de negros e indígenas, invadió la ciudad, proclamó su reinado y creó un pequeño Estado. Su lucha y discurso liberador, fortaleza de nuestra negritud, la reseñan los cronistas de entonces Fray Pedro Simón y Fray Pedro de Aguado, quienes en sus escritos respaldan para la historia este capítulo antiesclavista, así como para las letras lo hacen “Miguel de Buría”, la novela escrita por Raúl Agudo Freitez, que explica cómo ganó el título de “rey Miguel” y “Señor de toda la tierra”, título dado por el escritor Gilberto Abril Rojas a su premiada novela sobre el esclavo insurrecto de Buría.
