When you face your fears to get things done.. A recon ride around Saanich leading up to #ironman703victoria β 75k of the bike course I almost didn't do this ride. The rain and wet roads were a bit of a deterrent. Going solo on an unfamiliar course made me a bit nervous. But you really only regret the things you don't do. So glad I was able to suck up my fears and tackle this. Absolutely stunning route. It was nice to take my time, though I wish I had stopped for some pics. I skipped the last 15k to save the fun for race day (and to avoid the Willis Point hill π). Bipolar update - I havenβt done one of these in a long time. I turned on zoom & was greeted with the usual warm smiles from my psychiatrist & my social worker. I started the session by asking, βhow long can a manic episode last for?β. Immediately their smiles dropped. I wonβt go into details but after answering questions, my psychiatrist wanted to admit me to the hospital for two weeks. I told them it wasnβt an option as I was not about to leave the kids for that long. They added a prescription of an atypical antipsychotic called Olanzapine & placed me with a more hands on psychiatric team. After I picked up the Olanzapine I read that it had a sedating effect & weight gain. Didnβt take it. I have a history of reacting poorly & being super sensitive to medication. Wednesday met with my new team & they convinced me to take 1/2 a pill. Well guess what? I took 1/2 a pill & it FLOORED me. It took me an hour 1/2 to wake up, I struggled to get the kids ready for school, I took two naps around two hours each & a friend watched the kids after school. I was barely functional, it was horrible. I spoke to my nurse this morning & told him I refuse to ever take Olanzapine again. Will discuss with psychiatrist midweek. Iβd rather be strung out & manic than be a sedated zombie.
