You're used to seeing this girl! Happy, smiling and digging for gold in everything and everyone. ;) I'm just like you navigating 2020, and with that comes the feels. Many are feeling a heavy heart. But feel the need to pretend like they aren't. They're afraid to be real to expose what they deeply feel! I refuse to add to the toxic narrative that life should feel/be/look perfect all of the time. We can't pretend problems don't exist in hopes that they will go away. We can't. Because they won't. God gave us emotions for a purpose-- we must feel them and not stuff them... but also not follow them- they aren't our Guide, the Holy Spirit is. Our emotions aren't our GPS but a check engine light. If we see the warning signal light up on our dash but choose to ignore it, you're gonna end up on the side of the road some where broke down. I don't want to contribute to someone being stuck on the side of the road because I posted an "insta-perfect" world and made you believe life should be awesome all the time. Life isn't awesome all the time.. but God is! :) In James 1:2-4 the bible says to "Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way." Counting it all joy aka considering it a sheer gift, doesn't mean try to make trials feel good. It just means good will come out of it! Our faith is being revealed-- and when we allow God to do the work He wants to do through the challenges we're facing, we will end up mature and well-developed on the other side of the trial! Basically it's a spiritual workout-- resistance makes us stronger! Fill each room with love, laughter & joy. Use your powerful gift with words to fuel the lives of others! You’re strong. You’re wise. You’re grown. You’re off to follow the path that God has set before you. To the girl who feels like it has to happen NOW... This is my 20 yr old self—who thought I had to “make it” right now! I had a right now attitude... and that attitude stole my joy. You may be saying “But Holly you don’t understand...” Oh but I do! I get it. The urgency. The desire. The call.. to make it happen NOW! There’s something burning in the pit of your stomach a stirring in your spirit that says “Now is all I’ve got!” You’re absolutely right! Right now is all you have.. so quit wasting it on the should’s... I should be there already I should have done that I should not have done this I should be somewhere other than where I am... I should be better than this. The case of the “should‘s” is robbing you the joy in your now! Now is all you got so take the step to get you to where you want to go and enjoy this moment right here right now. Today I lept into 48 like a 16 yr old leaps into their first car— Full of excitement, enthusiasm, adventure and life— ready to put the pedal to the metal!! Some people dread getting older. While it does have its’ challenges, the experiences, memories and loved ones are worth it all! When I hit my 40’s something in me shifted. My spirit came alive! By 43 I had made MAJOR changes and was finally ready to fully pursue my dreams! At 46 I wrote and released my first book. At 47 I wrote and recorded my first Christian Hip Hop album.. I can’t even begin to imagine what God is gonna do in my life at 48... all I know is that up until age 40 I was the lid to my limitations. I am no longer a lid and I believe 💯 that anything is possible! Listen up— Don’t let them tell you that you’re too old, too young, too loud, too quiet, too timid, too bold, too little or too much! God created you and knowing that, you should understand that you’re here for a purpose and you better believe He knew that the world needed your gifts! When you’re comfortable in your skin and are walking in obedience utilizing those very gifts he gave you— no one can convince you that you can’t— oh they might tell you, but you’re not concerned with their doubt-filled opinions because you’re overflowing with faith and purpose! I no longer worry about the big picture— I’m being obedient in this moment and with every step I continue to live out the call on my life. Sometimes it’s a step and sometimes it’s a leap— Today I lept into 48 and only God knows what adventures await.. Every day is a gift and I’m going to enjoy the presents/presence! Sometimes I overthink. All the thoughts run through my head like a hamster on a wheel— spinning nonstop and not getting me anywhere. The what if’s, the should’ve and if only’s... and then I realize I can’t control the thoughts that come into my head but I do decide if they can live there... I’ve got no room for the what if’s, the should’ve and if only’s... So I pop in my AirPods and boot those thoughts out- by feeding my head and my spirit with faith-filled, positive praise tunes. Lately I’ve found that loud music, a long walk and talk with God is all I need to drown out the chaos. It’s Monday and I’m already celebrating! In less than two years I had 3 foot surgeries (one included a plate and five pins/screws). My last foot surgery was a year ago in Aug. So here I am a year later.. WALKING and kinda normal too (I have a slight catch but not sure anyone would notice). I’ve been walking over 10k steps a day.. Y’all there were days over the course of three years that I didn’t even hit 1k. So I’m stoked to be “walking”.. I honestly thought I’d never run again.. the other night when waiting to cross the street a car waved me ahead.. trying to be considerate I thought I’d try a slight jog— and I DID IT!!! So the next night I’m out on my walk and I decided to try to jog— And I did it!! It may not have looked pretty, easy or smooth but I did it! I literally almost cried I was so happy! So I snapped a few pics of my moment of celebration. You might be facing a setback today.. We spend so much time planning and preparing for the future we miss the magic of the moment. Joy is in the small moments. Chasing happiness never ends. How do you know you’re chasing happiness? If you’re saying to yourself I’ll be happy when... I get out of school When I get married When I get divorced When I get my dream job When I lose some weight When I have kids When my kids are grown When I catch up with my bills When I finally _________ (fill in the blank). Why wait until then when you can find joy in this moment!?! Our lives are made up of a series of little moments— the milestones are markers but the joy lies in the moments. A baby’s giggle A glass of lemonade on the front porch during a rainstorm Holding the hand of a loved one A call from an old friend A hug A Smile A walk in nature Your dog greeting you when you walk in the door An “I love you” from your teen Playing superhero’s with your son Having a tea party with your daughter Enjoying a book in the quiet A dance party in your living room Watching the sunset All these little moments of joy create a life full of joy! Don’t forget to live in these moments and be present!
It’s so much easier to complete the challenge when you can see the light at the end of the tunnel! If you don’t see it yet, keep pushing on.. you’ll get a glimpse and that will encourage you on your journey! When you can really see the light at the end of the tunnel you begin to celebrate because you know you’re almost there— even though it might be a bit of a distance away, you can see it—- and that makes it so much easier to push on through! Your situation is just like that glass of water-- not half full or half empty but OVERFLOWING-- just because you cannot see the solution, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist-- you just can't see it (YET!). That's the importance of FAITH! When your faith is activated, it doesn't matter what you see but it's what you KNOW to be true. When your faith is activated, it doesn't matter what you see but it's what you KNOW to be true. "Faith means being sure of the things we hope for and knowing that something is real even if we do not see it." Hebrews 11:1 (New Century Version) Whatever it is that you're facing today-- know that just because you don't see the outcome, doesn't mean that there isn't one-- it's just going to be in God's perfect timing-- so ACTIVATE your faith! When you do so, you're trusting God's perfect plan before you even know what it is!
They say there are two types of people-- Those that see the glass half full and those that see it half empty. Which one are you? Maybe you're neither. Perhaps you see the glass as overflowing. It's not about an optimistic or negative mindset but rather living out your faith! When you look at the glass through your natural eyes, you see the water and what's missing... but when you look at the glass through the eyes of activated faith, you know that there's more to it than meets the eye! While the glass is half full/empty with water.. even though you may not see it, the glass is actually overflowing with air! When you activate your faith, it's not about what you see, but what you know to be true. When you view life through activated faith, you live beyond what your circumstances look like-- You're trusting the Goodness of God, knowing that He is at work on your behalf even when you can't see it! #GlassHalfFull #GlassHalfEmpty #GlassOverflowing #GodsGoodness
There is so much more going on beyond what we can see. Remember that God is doing something in the midst of your situation... This isn't happening TO you, it's happening FOR you! I’m not one to shy away from a camera or a great mirror with a photo op.... But you know what I have been shying away from? Sharing! I’ve been so scared of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time— so I’ve been holding back my message of joy because I don’t want to appear insensitive. The other day I was having a conversation with a peer and she told me “Holly the world needs to hear the message of joy and hope...” she went on to say “your message doesn’t dismiss pain or try to stuff it down— you remind us that in the midst of all that pain we can still experience true Joy that only comes from the Father!” So here I am stepping out to remind you that while you might be experiencing pain, you can STILL have joy at the same time! God never told us we would be without pain— in fact he told us that we WOULD have pain in this world, and then he added the most important part.. “BUT” (when there is a but in the middle of a sentence it negates the first half) “Take heart, I have overcome the world!” Not only has He overcome the world but He promised He would never leave. Yesterday we officially launched my new designs & online merch store & today I’m already shipping things out! What!?!? 🙌🏼 I’m so grateful for the support for my lil’ ole’ biz. I haven’t really shared publicly but at the end of last year I had shifted from coaching/counseling to focus on live events in 2020 (speaking and/or rapping). Y’all there were some crazy opportunities lined up! I knew in order to keep harmony in my life, I had to scale back on clients. I was taking the next step- shifting from one on one to live events. I ADORE my clients & working with them 1:1, but I’ve always felt called to make an impact from the mic. 2020 appeared to be THEE YEAR! Then covid hit. Everything changed. Real talk— I hit a funk for a bit— couldn’t bring myself to post. I tried. But didn’t post much. I had to sort through my emotions, thoughts & feelings. Not only were we quarantined but ALL those open doors slammed shut in an instant. It felt like I was so close to my dreams becoming a reality & outta nowhere POOF- it was gone! Here’s the beauty. Gods timing is PERFECT! His provision has been crazy miraculous. I’m seeing His hand at work everywhere. God’s ways are so much higher than mine & He’s never failed me! I’d been wanting to set up an online shop- my merch goes crazy fast at events but I never had the time! Covid gave me the time & here we are— Officially launched YESTERDAY! I’m already packaging & shipping today. You can get yours #linkinbio I don’t know when live events will happen again & I don’t know what God has in store for me. But I’m gonna keep on keeping on.. walking with Him every step of the way & trusting Him FULLY with it all! He never will never fail me. As long as I’ve got Him, I’ve got all that I need. In His presence there is fullness of joy— it’s the joy of the Lord that’s my strength! My prayer is that these clothes will speak to ❤️‘s & brighten your days! Thank you again for all your love & support!
Real change, positive change, can’t happen until WE are truthful. Some of the biggest lies we believe come from within our own heads. Whether it’s thoughts from our flesh or listening to whispers from the enemy. If we want truth it starts within oneself. Here’s the thing though, when we share a potentially painful truth with a loved one, we approach it gently, using wisdom. Shouldn’t we approach truth telling to ourselves the same way? Too often we talk so harshly to ourselves that if we heard someone else say the same thing to us, we’d hear the cruelty and find offense-- but when we speak that way to ourselves we don’t hear the harshness. Worse yet, we actually BELIEVE the lies! When we deliver truth to ourselves, shouldn’t we offer the same grace that we would offer others? Try to show more grace and kindness to yourself as you’re getting honest.. just getting honest with yourself is a huge win— Celebrate that growth!

“Do these pants make my thighs look big?” I ask my husband this all the time. For the first few years he would tell me they didn’t (when they actually DID) because he didn’t want to hurt my feelings. Eventually I told him, “Listen, I don’t want to walk around wearing pants that actually don’t look good on me! So please tell me the truth if I look fat in them!” This was soooooooo hard for him. He never wants to say anything that would hurt someone, especially his wife. But after this conversation he realized that I wanted and needed to know the truth even if it might sting a bit. The beauty is that my husband is brilliant— he created the best response ever to this catch22 question. Now when I ask him and they don’t enhance my figure, he responds with “They make you look bigger than you actually are.” HUSBANDS take note of that response! :) The bottom line, telling the truth is priceless. Proverbs 27:6 – “Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” Would you rather hear the truth from a loved, even if it hurts or would you rather someone tickle your ears and ego with lies?
Sometimes ya just need a break away from reality to recharge. Is there a better way than in nature with family? I think not. . . But don’t let the instapics fool ya.. there were moments of getting snippy (I was driving, we didn’t know where restaurants were, skiing— that’s a whole life lesson right there). Fortunately there were many more smiles than there were snips 😉 A great day of fun in the sun- feeling so recharged and refreshed after just one day! What’s your go-to day of recharging?
You’re used to seeing me smile. Like many of you my heart has been heavy & my smile has been distant. . At almost 48 years old I can tell you that I don’t know a lot. The older I get the more I realize there’s more I don’t know.. . I’ve avoided posting for so many reasons... I’ve written countless posts that all end up deleted—Not because I don’t care but because I care so much I fear saying the wrong thing. I want to be a part of the solution but what if my words are ignorant or come off as insensitive? I don’t know the right words.. So many things on so many levels that I just. don’t. know. BUT there is ONE thing that I’m certain of & I KNOW that I KNOW it to be true. God is still on His throne & is STILL working behind the scenes. NOTHING is too small for Him to care for or too large for Him to fix. HE is the ONLY ONE that can take all this stuff & use it for our good & His glory! HE is the ONLY one that can take our messes & turn them into messages! HE is the ONLY thing that can change EVERYTHING.. but He won’t force Himself upon us. He is a God of free will. This change we want/need to experience.. this REVIVAL we want to happen, the simple request of kindness and decency in humanity.. unity. It starts by healing the heart of man and replacing it with the heart of God. So It’s time for me to head back to my prayer closet.. I want to help but I can’t help heal the world’s heart if my own is full of infection, confused & broken. I only know one place to start— and that’s with my Heavenly Daddy. So God— I’m gonna start right here right now. I know my heart needs cleaned up so that I can better love & serve others. Let me heal so I can hear beyond my hurt & see beyond my pain & limitations. Let me NOT point fingers but Lord let change start with me. If there is anything in my heart that is unholy reveal it.. “Create in me a new clean heart oh God, filled with clean thoughts and right desires. Don’t toss me aside, banished forever from your presence. Don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me AGAIN the JOY OF YOUR SALVATION and make me WILLING to obey you. Psalm 51:10-19 This is my prayer. Let me be the change you called me to be.

Do you enjoy your comfort zone? 🙋 In a lot of ways, when I’m in my routine and my “normal” I feel like I thrive. But often just because I feel like I’m thriving doesn’t mean that I am. By living in my comfort zone I’m limiting the life of abundance and creativity and experiences that God has for me. So often I will feel pain because it’s the only thing that will nudge me out of my comfort zone into exploring new opportunities. I remember in 2015 when I was the associate pastor for a wonderful growing church. I began experiencing panic attacks after not having had them for years. The Lord was calling me into something new but I was so comfortable in my role as associate pastor, I loved the people of our church— not to mention our lead pastor and his wife. I knew the Lord was calling me into someplace else but I was so afraid. I was afraid of hurting people, I was afraid of what this new call would be. So I stayed. I overstayed. I wasn’t obedient and when I’m not obedient I experience anxiety… So eventually the pain of staying the same became greater than the perceived pain of change. Ironically, when I stepped out into that new call and was obedient, I never felt more free! All the things I worried about, God strategically took care of! Lessons were learned not only by me, but by the ones who were impacted by this change. God used it ALL for our good and His Glory! Just like He says! Share this if it encouraged you! Hanging out at book club has been a JOY!!! Last night we got really personal with some stories and shared hearts and struggles and came together to support our sisters. It was such a powerful time. Unpopular Opinion: You have power and authority over your feelings even if it feels like they are controlling you. Mic drop. 🎤 Trust me on this. Most people allow their feelings to act as their GPS, guiding them to their destination. As their feelings change, so does their destination, when in fact our feelings were not created to be our navigational system. They were created to be more like a gauge, a "check engine light" if you will. The check engine light tells us there is something going on under the hood that needs to be addressed. Sometimes it's simply routine maintenance, and other times it's a blown engine. If it's a blown engine, it's likely because the driver has been paying more attention to the GPS than to the check engine light. 👆🏻 All that advice is straight from #JoyIsMyJam!

The voice of the temper tantrum could be our feelings, it could be our inner critic, an unhappy loved one… but we can’t let that voice drown out the truth that lies within us. Real. . No filter... not just the pic but my life. . . I miss my normal. I miss my people. I miss church. I miss corporate worship. I miss face to face conversation. I miss hugs. I’m a hugger but not a lingering hugger & right now I’d love a lingering hug! . Sure I still laugh and have fun but right now, underneath it all. I’m feeling it. . I’m an “emotional wellness expert” who educates, inspires & equips individuals going through challenging times... and I want you to know I don’t have it all together. . Yes. I’m actively doing the things I teach & preach. I journal, I reflect, I pray & listen, I get outside, get my praise on... I do all the things. . . And yet I still feel it. That discomfort in uncertainty. Here’s what I’m constantly reminding myself: This is where I grow, in the discomfort. This is where my faith develops and matures— in uncertainty & challenges. . . One day we will look back and wonder how we did it... and you know what my response will be? I DIDN’T do anything to get through this time but GOD DID! I’m weak right now.. but it’s in my weakness that HIS STRENGTH is made perfect. . James 1:2-6a (MSG) “Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don't try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way. If you don't know what you're doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You'll get his help, and won't be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought.” . . So this is me. Reminding myself that I want to continue to grow so I must embrace the discomfort. . I’m Reminding myself that what appears to be a challenge is a actually a gift. This is what God is currently using to do a complete work in me. . No playing, it’s time to go BOLDLY before the thrown.. God give me what I need! Don’t let me waste this experience. Let my roots grow deeper in you.. Lord have your perfect way! . It ain’t pretty. It ain’t easy. BUT IT WILL BE WORTH IT!

Don’t put pressure on yourself to do or be something that someone else might be saying or doing. This is YOUR journey. Learn the lessons that are for you during this difficult time. Don’t compare yourself to others because they are posting their new hobbies or skills.. Maybe you’re learning to sit in the quiet. Maybe you’re learning to enjoy the simple things. Maybe you’re learning to rest. Because rest is something our society has forgotten about. . Perhaps you’re learning to live in harmony (not balance but harmony!). Realizing that you can slow down and smell the roses. . If you’re like me, I LOVE my job- I get to do amazing things. We don’t have to come out of this time with a fresh hobby, skill or educated in something new. . Just coming out of it is enough. Y’all keepin it real. It’s survival mode for many of us. . Maybe it’s letting your eating habits slide. Perhaps it’s handing the kids their after their homework is done and not tracking every minute. . The goal is to come out of this safe and healthy. So relax. Watch ya Netflix and binge a bit. . Do your best to keep fit- mentally, physically & emotionally. Engage in reading, stay active by taking relaxing walks in the outdoors and then express/process your emotions in a journal! You don’t have to do all of these things every day.. if you can then AWESOME! If not, don’t guilt yourself- offer yourself some grace. . . Do what you can and be ok with that. . This is a pandemic, not a competition of who can do the most. . . Stay healthy. Stay sane. Stay silly when ya can! 😉❤️ .
