Blackstar HT5 Combo I picked this up a few weeks ago for the bargain price of £100. This is the mk-i version not the flashier mk-ii but still at that price and completely clean it wasn't to be sniffed at 5W of power going into two footswitchable channels that chuck the noise out of a 10" Celestion speaker in front. ECC83 and 12BH7 tubes do their things quite nicely along the way. Speaker emulators, effects loop, line in, extension cab options, there's a lot squeezed in to a little package. The clean channel is pretty basic with just an overall tone knob but combined with the onboard digital reverb it sounds pretty rich and full if you don't need to stay pristine at volume. The OD channel has 3 band eq and Blackstar's ISF thingy that apparently lets you blend between US or Brit amp styles. Well I wouldn't go that far but it's an extra knob to tweak if you get bored messing around with the other ones. It likes a crunchy od pedal (well who doesn't?!?) although I haven't tried it with the full array of the heavier pedals yet. I expect maybe this is where the ISF knob might come in handy to adjust and compensate for heavier tones but then that becomes a bit of a chore having to tweak and re-tweak every time right. Who knows, we'll see when the need arrives but for the main part I'm really enjoying the clean side especially with the Gretsch Jet which seems to sound especially sweet through it. After cramming a few hours of practice in last night, all I could ask God was that He would get the glory and I wouldn’t mess it up for Him and the team. Though I shouldn’t be surprised, it was a beautiful morning worshiping God and I received such encouraging feedback.
