Take a look at the Tan Qalanq swords our awesome prop-building team fabricated for Star Trek season 4. Our prop team fabricated a total of 24 swords in 3 different styles. One for J’vini (@ayeshalives), one for Gabrielle Burnham (@SonjaSohn), and one for Qowat Milat. The Swords were fabricated from bamboo and urethane resin and then painstakingly painted. The prop team at Laird FX fabricated this amazing slow-motion gun for the Netflix film Slumberland. The gun was modeled, 3D printed, and cast in its colour. The decals were then applied followed by a breakdown. The gun has working knobs for the on/off switch, which illuminates the back display. Finally, nothing is complete without the trigger activated lights! This is our delta platform designed and manufactured for Star Trek: Discovery season 4! Check out this side by side behind the scenes of @therealsonequa and @davidajala under attack from episode 1. The delta platform is an electric motion platform with 4 degrees of freedom and a 1200 pound working load limit. The top deck is capable of pitching 38 degrees from horizontal and rotating 360 degrees at speeds in excess of 10 feet per second. It also includes a custom developed software for recording and playback, as well as a motion synthesizer for organic wave and floating action. Finally up is this insane propane car explosion from Kick-Ass 2! Two fake propane tanks were used, one to throw, one to send flying along a cable into the car. Actors were pulled away from a fire ball in a separate take. Then a nitrogen cannon and some pyro poppers for added effect sent the car flying. A bit of CGI and Mother Russia (@olyushkakurkulina) make this scene complete. Thanks for the request we loved looking back at these awesome movies! Day two of Kick-Ass behind the scenes and the effects continue! Today brings this lawnmower car crash from Kick-Ass 2 with a breakaway glass windshield. This was done by the stunt driver backing up with an actual lawnmower on the back. If you look closely though, you can see the lawnmower on its way over the car instead of through the windshield so another take was needed to get the shot. Secret society of the second born royals was released this past Friday! Last year we made a couple of props for it some of which were a DNA based nano-device and a collar for prisoners. Both these builds started as a 3D model. From there they were machined and anodized in house. Electrical was added with custom circuit boards for lights, a little motor to agitate the water, and an micro wireless locking mechanism for the collar. A mold was made of the nano-device and foam versions were cast to safely throw it around.
